No, no , no this is NOT a thread about eating/using them in your hotel room ... :rotfl2:

I bought two of the frozen crock pot meals a couple weeks ago so I could cook them while I was at work and come home to a hot meal all ready to serve up to the family :thumbsup2

So far I have tryed the Beef Stroganof and the chicken rice and herb both by Banquet, my family all liked these.

has anyone else tryed these or others they would recomend?

I often wondered about them! I hope more people post a review - I'd like to try them.

I must say we love them, I have BIG issues with leaving a crock pot on all day so I am not sure if they will work for us when my son is back in school but for now YUMMMY !!!

We like most of them too! Our favorites are the CrockPot Classics Chicken and Dumplings, the Creamy Chicken and Pasta, and the Beef Stew (or is it Yankee Pot Roast Stew?).And we find that they really do taste better when you let 'em cook up for the full 8 hours rather than the quick 4-hour method, if that helps ya'll any :)

That advice does help - thanks. How is the salt content? I don't mean, read the label to tell me exactly how many milligrams... I mean - does it taste really, really salty??

That's what I thought - and its ok for me to have it - I just wondered if it tasted really salty. I don't like certain soups because they taste so salty. KWIM?

I personally find them so salty I can't eat them. My husband likes them better than I do, but then, he likes salt a lot more than me (I like it on popcorn, eggs, and margaritas, but other than that I tend to not use it except in recipes, where I tend to go light on it).

I would love some good recipes that I could make myself in the crockpot, though. I just think I could make something better tasting myself, but so far the only thing I've ever used mine for (other than trying the banquet meals) is making stuffing at thanksgiving.

I cook pot roast in ours.

Pot roast
Several small (sliced) red potatoes
Sliced carrots
Sliced mushrooms
1 can of cream of mushroom soup
Light salt/pepper/lemon pepper
Beef brother
1 sliced onion

I turn it on when I leave for work (around 7 a.m.), and by 6 p.m., it's soooooo good! I keep it on low all day long. I used to put bok choy in it as well, but no one else liked it but myself :)

I hate meals cooked in a crock pot. Nothing taste good cooked in a crock pot. :stir:
I have crock pot cookbooks & have tried for 20 years to find a good meal.

Now I have 3 crock pots & love them for a party. Just to keep food warm.

They are also good for making mashed potatoes on thanksgiving, then you don't spend a 1/2 hour on Thanksgiving peeling potatoes

Cheesy Chicken Broccoli Casserole
6 CHicken breasts cut up in small pieces
1 bag frozen Broccoli
1 lg or 2 smallscans creamed soup..I use cream of broccoli
1 cup milk
1/2 cup may0
1/2 c sour cream
1 1/2 cups Cheddar Cheese
Bread crumbs

This is another railroaded recipe, meaning I never measure.
1. Combine soups, milk, sour cream , mayo, cheddar cheese in a baking dish
2 Add in chicken and broccoli..I put mine in uncooked, but you could precook or use leftoover chicken
.Sprinkle breadcrumbs all over the top and then toss on some extra cheese
Bake at 450 for about 45 minute, until it's bubbily in the center.
I've made this without the may, without the sour cream. I've made it with different cheese, swiss, gruyere, even velveeta...You can play with this recipe... I like eerything with some kick so I add some crushed red pepper
For crock pot cook on low for most of the day

Jenny's *Malbertos* , Mock ALBERTOS Chimichangas
This is made in several steps.. The roast goes the night before. I make the pica de Gallo the next afternoon,The sauce an hour before serving..You can easily just make the shredded beef and use for tacos,Burritos, whatever

Shredded beef

1 small to medium sized pot roast..You are better off with a cheaper cut like Rump or Chuck roast
1 Jar of salsa
1 c fresh cilantro
One green pepper ,sliced (optional)
One onion slicked (optional)
Jalapeno's (optional)
1 The night before place roast in crock pot with just a little water. low temp
2 The next morning drain out a bit of liquid and throw in a jar of salsa..The roast may be fork tender already and will easily shre..If not you can shred it later
3, 1 hour or so before serving add fresh cilantro ,pepper and onion..If you like it hotter add canned jalapenos or green chili's

Pico De Gallo
2 tomatoes diced
2 onions diced
1 c cilatro (Use half the cilantro for shredded beef, half for pico degallo..Ifthere is a lot you can add some to the sauce also)
Dash of lime
dash of cumin
dash of chili pepper

1 Cut all ingrediants and place in a bowl, add lime juice ,cumin and cilantro. For hotter Pico de Gallo add jalapenos

Green pepper sauce
1 lg cn tomato sauce
1 medium sized can green chilis
cilantro (optional)
Jalapenos (optional
1 Super easy.Throw this all in blender of food processor
2 Heat and keep warm in pan on stove

Putting it all together

Large sized burritos,However many you need
vegetable oil
Bag Cheddar or Monterrey jack cheese
Sour cream

1 Heat some oil in a pan..Not a huge amount of oil ,but enough to fry it
2 Place a generous helping of shredded beef on burrito ad fold into a burrito shape
3 PLace burrito, flap side dowin in oil unil brown
4 FLip over and brown other side
5 place on a plate and immediately pour some sauce over the chimichangla
6 Add whatever toppings you like,,Sour cream, cheese, PicoDeGallo

Tips
This may sound complicated but it's not..The shredded beef is simply a matter of throwing a roast in a crock pot..You can often squeeze 2 meals from this by making enchiladas or shredded beef tacos another night.
These have become my Superbowl Sunday tradition

Can you explain how you do this? I put my mashed potatoes in the crock pot an hour before Thanksgiving dinner to keep hot. How do you avoid peeling the potatoes?

Ack..I'm not saying you don't have to peeel them at all. Just that you can do it in the Am before the family comes..I hate spending most of Thanksgivng in the kitchen cooking,so I do as much as possble early..I will admit that for the last 4 years I have purchased small red potatoes, left them unpeeled, boiled them and them mashed them into the crock pot in the morniing...They are healthier with the peel and no one in my family minds

The mashed potatoes keep for hours in the crock pot mashed. I also have a small crock pot for the gravy & a large one for the stuffing. I stuff the Turkey & fill a crock pot in the am with stuffing it cooks all day then I mix in the stuffing from the bird later.

What appetizers do you put in a CP? Walmart has a nice Stainless Steel on for $28 ish I have my eye on.

OUr favorite is the Chicken and Dumplings, we didn't like the Pasta and Sauce one.

They are quick and easy, and I'm all for that.

My kids are so easy to please, their favorite meal is Hamburger Helper.
