Hello all - I am a 40 YO w/ a heart condition. I have a pacemaker and a ICD (implanted cardiac device). Our family is myself, husband & 2 kids (ages 9 an 7).
Although there are a few conditions which cause minor problems for me (heat - alot of walking - pushing a stroller years ago), my condition is very well managed. We visit WDW twice a year and have never felt the need to ask for any type of assistance. We have a planned trip coming up in May and I just found out I need heart surgery - and it will be done 10 days prior to our trip. The surgery is not major therefor I do not want to cancel our trip becuase of it. Obviously things like RRC, TOT etc. are out of the question for me this time. On the other hand, I would like to see all I can in as little time as possible (possibly without waiting in long lines) so I can get back to the resort and relax. If I feel waiting in lines would not cause pain I will not ask for any assistance. All that said, is there a program in place (such as GAC) that would allow us to gain quick access to attractions if we find waiting causes problems such as pain or fatique? I hope nobody takes this as an abuse of the system because that is not my intent. Just want to be informed if I do feel the need.

Yes... no problem... click on the link in my signature below, the GAC information is in the disABILITIES FAQ. Many folks have hidden disabilities, and the GAC is just what you need. You will be asked to use the FastPass system as much as possible, to be fair to others. Most of the queues are really part of the attraction and not very tiring, and many places have seating available for people who really need it.

I hope you have a wonderful trip! Be sure to read the section about pacing. :)

The GACs aren't really meant to shorten the time in line, but one certainly will help with not standing in the sun and the other problems you mentioned. If you still have questions after reading teri's FAQs, please go ahead and ask.

Thanks for the replies. I actually have a better resolution now. I spoke to my Doctor and he agreed to wait till after the trip to do the surgery. As I said, it's not major surgery (just a pacemaker replacement) so he said it could wait 10 more days. Now I don't have to even think about it. I can enjoy all attractions with my family, wait as long as it takes and save the GAC and any other programs WDW has for people who realyy need it more than I. Thanks again for your info. and help.
