Creepy, my trash is missing

My dad used to say if he was to put something out with a free sign, no one would take it thinking it was junk. But if he put it in the same place with a "For Sale $15," someone would come snatch it and quick. Good way to get rid of things that can't go into the trash, I assume!

I believe that now. we were giving away a bike my sister had outgrown, so we put it on the porch with a free sign and it stayed there for days, with all the kids in this neighborhood I thought it would be gone in a heartbeat

Why would it bother you that someone took it? And why would you wait till morning to put it out? How is it hurting you for someone to take something you were getting rid of anyway?

Identity theft

Last week I was putting out our garbage on trash day and a late model Taurus came down the street quickly (not scanning all the neighbors garbage piles) and stopped abruptly in front of my next door neighbor's house. He jumped out of his car and took one plastic water bottle out of their recycle bin and jumped back in his car and sped away:confused: Still wondering about that one.

Several years ago when we were selling the condo we lived in (small development, only 7 units) we had a showing on Wednesday night. Our trash day was Friday and you weren't allowed to put out your garbage until Thursday at a certain time. One neighbor always had tons of garbage out too early. I asked my husband to put the garbage in the back of his truck since it was lining the driveway and I thought it didn't make a good impression. Our association president was a busybody and quite paranoid. Later she told me about how one of the other neighbors was stealing garbage to look for personal information and I had better be careful. I never did tell her it was us that took the garbage. Wouldn't have been worth it to explain it to her.

I'm surprised you can put out old computers and electronics with your trash. Around here that's not allowed - you have to take those things to a designated "e-waste" collection site. There's all kinds of restrictions on what can go in the trash, and even though there is a lot that can go in the recycling pick up, there's still a lot of things they won't take and we have to bring to a designated disposal location.

We have people who go through our recycling every week when we put it on the curb. They pull out all the stuff they can turn in for cash, and since most of them are homeless I don't mind it a bit as long as they don't leave a mess or come up our driveway to go through it. Sometimes we've even pre-sorted it for them so they can just reach in the big bin and pull out a couple bags of the "good" stuff.

Of course we always shred all the bills, documents, etc. with a superfine diamond cross-cut shredder, so I'm not worried about identity theft, either.
