I ran out of cat food and I was too lazy to make a trip to Costco this morning so I went to my local Aldi instead. Just opened the box and ….. .

Hmmm… they were very active when I opened the box. I rushed outside with it and in the sunlight they just gathered together and remained still. Weevils? There was one maggot too.

They're definitely not weevils. Those are dark colored. A maggot is also larvae.

I telephoned Aldi customer services, explained the situation and asked them if they could let my local store know so that they could check the other items from the shelves. They suggested that I take the box of food back and request a refund. The food was cheap so I am not interested in a refund but I was concerned about others having uninvited guests in their kitchen. So I sent a pm to Aldi using Twitter again asking them to contact my local store so that they could check other items, and they replied saying, destroy the food and take their response to my local store and I will be given a refund. Missing the point again.
Once I had dumped the box outside and disinfected my kitchen table I felt a bit less icky about it. I may put some gardening gloves on tomorrow and empty the sachets into my wildlife patch for the hedgehogs.

I once had that a few years back with Purina Canned Cat Food Pate as it appeared spoiled (had an awful smell and texture was way off and color very dark).

I had two different orders one from Walmart and one from Petsmart. I returned the cans to Walmart thinking it was just a random fluke and got a refund but when I got the one from Petsmart immediately after I took them back to Petsmart and while they refunded me as well giving me new cans (in a different flavor as both orders were chicken flavor) they told me to contact Purina. I did that, gave them the lot number, the expiration date (which was actually like a year and a half in the future). Not too much later they contacted me and sent me coupons for future purchases which was a kind gesture and I did use it though I bought a different flavor (I stopped buying chicken flavor for a while after that). I wasn't seeking compensation, I like you just wanted to alert them. IMO it was a batch issue and I'm not sure it rose to the level of them thinking to pull all from those from the shelves but I did what I could.

Given how dog food has sorta rampant issues with bugs your issue is probably a production issue or how they were stored before they got to your individual store. In other words it's probably not just your store. That may be why they didn't even mention in their response to you about your individual store as far as removing or checking other stock. It's so frustrating but I think we have to hope they are at least alerted to the issue and handle it in the background as their own investigation.
