We don't have any credit cards. We use our Visa debit cards and that's all. I am reading on a lot of the rental sites that a credit card is needed for renting a car. Is this true for all agencies??

We also, only carry the Visa Debit card & the only rental agency that we use is Alamo. The only way to rent from them with the Visa Debit card is if you are traveling roundtrip & you have to give them a copy of your ticket (i.e. airline ticket, cruise ticket, train ticket).

We love Alamo, great service & great prices. We are also Quicksilver members (front of the line, pick your car kind of thing). Also, Alamo, is the rental car agency of Walt Disney World. (Used to be National). Also, Alamo & National now own each other. I believe Alamo used to be off-site from the airport, but I have heard that they are now in the terminal.

If you need any further info, just PM me.

Good luck & enjoy (looks like we'll be down at the same time):bounce:

wow, you have summed it up well.! Also, you have a BEAUTIFUL red point!!!! Dolllar, budget and Alamo will take debit cards with a visa/mc logo. dollar does a credit check and not sure about Budget. I do like alamo, and more especially since it is onsite.
They have always been "sister" companies to National.
Go where the price is best with the best terms.

Car rental agencies differ RE their credit card or debit card policies. Some don't accept debit cards, some require that you buy their collision coverage.

Check the agency's "policies" or rules. If you use Travelocity.com each rental company listed when you do a price search has a link to their policies. (Caution, sometimes when you click the second policies link you get the first company's policies again.)

I do not use debit cards unless they offer a promotion such as a rebate or airline miles, or except the Paypal debit card which is an easy way to conveniently use up the Paypal kitty balance from selling eBay items, other than by buying eBay items.

Keep in mind that every time your credit report is accessed it lowers your credit score. This is important to know if you are planning on buying a car or house.

I suggest getting a no annual fee card and using it to reserve and pick up the car, then paying by debit card when you return it. It's also there in case of emergency that way. Imagine getting to Florida and (God Forbid) having another September 11th happen--would you have access to enough cash to extend your hotel stay, food, and possibly car rental for another 3-5 days? Just food for thought...
