Hi guys,
Can somebody give me ideas on how to afford to bring my mother in law with us on our cruise next year?

Here's the situation:
We currently have a Cat 6 booked on the Sept 13th Western for 2 adults and 2 kids (our family). We would like to bring my mother in law along which makes us a party of 5. If we get the Cat 4 room for the 5 of us it is $1818 more. Too much! If we keep us in a Cat 6 and get her a Cat 11 across the hall, it's about $1920 more. Also too much! I tried playing around with putting one kid in her room, etc but it's still too much. We were going to treat her and wanted to spend around $750 or less. I guess that's not possible is it?

Are there any Cat 7's with Cat 11's across the hall? How else can I do this and make it affordable?

Thanks for any input you may have!

Probably the only way you will able to get the price you want is if you downgrade to a non-verandah cabin for your cabin. I would try for connecting Cat. 10s and put one of the kids in her cabin on the booking (otherwise your mom pays a single supplement, and that is generally more than the difference in price you would pay from having the child fare change to the adult fare).

Good luck! :)

downgrading to a category 10 but now that we have cruised with a veranda, we just aren't willing to cruise without one.

It's looking like mom-in-law is gonna have to sit this one out...she didn't know about it anyway, we just thought it would be cool but it just doesn't sound affordable enough for us to pay her way.

The only other thing I can come up with is to see if you can find another adult to go with your MIL that would be willing to pay his/her own way. Even then, I don't think you'll get down to $750 for her. I think the cheapest the Western is running per adult is about $850, even in hurricane season.

Just a suggestion.

Maybe you could offer to split the difference with her if she is financially able to afford it. You could give her the $750 toward her cabin and she could pay the rest. Also, if she has other children, maybe you could suggest that they chip in as a group gift for Christmas or birthday or whatever.

Just a thought.:)

What if you were to get one of the newly downgraded veranda rooms that Barb told us about:

http://www.disneycruiser.info/obstruct.htm

And then across the hall get Cat. 11 for MIL and put one of the kids with her. These rooms (obstructed view veranda rooms) can only sleep 3 anyway.

I am not sure what the cost would be, but they are Cat. 7 instead of 6, so that should help some.

I haven't seen them, only on Barb's website. So it was just a 'thought', I am not sure if it would help or not.

We took my mom on the Magic with us in January and in 6 weeks we are taking her and my mother n law for a 4 day and 3 day back to back on the Wonder. It is VERY expensive but I tell you what the memories are sooooo priceless that I encourage you to search every angle you can so she goes with you!! It also helps to have another adult when you have kids. Grandmas always have a way of breaking the ice, their wonderful helping hands, and maybe giving you a dinner alone if your kids won't go in the clubs (like mine). My daughter caught the flu the last day and she missed Castaway. My mom stayed with her in the cabin the entire day (cleaning up after her) so my husband and I could enjoy Castaway with our other three kids.

I hope you find a way!!

Off subject - But I just wanted to say how neat it is that a lot of people on these boards want to take their MIL along. If I had to go with my MIL I would rather stay home, even if the trip was free.
