Creationism museum to be protested...

My point about the Great Commission was, we're commanded to go into ALL the world preaching the good news to everyone. Christians missionaries have been doing exactly that for hundreds of years.

Good discussions on all sides.

Both preaching and killings have occured in the name of God for thousands of years. Lots of both -- and many have killed in the name of God -- like I've already mentioned -- abortion clinic bombers, crusades, that girl that got stoned in Iraq last week, etc. Is that what a God of Love would really want? Killing in his name? If he doesn't, why let it keep occuring?

Then we have some also kill others to "defend" their God... We can't deny that this happens, and for some reason unknown to us, God/Gods still lets it happen, or he/she doesn't care, or he/she doesn't exist as we think they should.

but if you are excluding God or a power higher than you that you do not call God or even know to call God, would be too risky (imho) to put your hope in.

Which brings up a point -- do some of those who believe in Jesus *really* believe in Jesus, or is it *too risky* not too? Do some believe, just because they don't want to risk going to hell??? Is that a "good enough" reason?

James 2 talks about this. Basically, you know a tree by it's fruit. Just believing "in" Jesus is not enough-Satan believes in Jesus. You have to BELIEVE Jesus.

If you read Lewis, he certainly isn't opposed to that - he more than most is out there saying how great being a Christian is.

A lot in my book is what the "good news" is. Is the "good news" that life with Christ is good and brings up to God. Is the "good news" that you are a sinner and are going to burn in an everlasting hell unless you become a Christian. Obviously the Christian message is a bit of both - but I honestly think too much of organized Christianity has drifted away from the good news of Christ and onto the bad news of non-Christ. (As a subject for another thread - because we would never want to drift off track - is how negative the message is in many churches today, even towards Christians. Defining Christians by what they don't do rather than by what they do).

I agree with Jimmie. Believing is probably a "present active participle". Not the same thing as "I believe the sky is blue". :)

I can't answer for anyone except myself. Believing in Jesus is not to avoid the hell for me. Honestly, if I have done this all wrong and have lived my life as a mediocre Christian (but following Christ just the same) and die and go to Hell, putting my faith in God/Jesus is worth everything to me. Having a relationship with God IS the most important part of my life. Having Him with me each day means so much to me that even if that's all there is and there is no Heaven, that is more than fine with me. I'd be sad not to ever truly be in God's presence in Heaven, I'd be sad to never see my dad again, & I would be sad that God's Word was not correct.

Honestly, I think people often think Christians think it is all about Heaven and for the most part, IMHO, for most, it is not.

I agree with all of this..For me it's about the journey, not the destinations, and for me Judaism helps me make the journey in an ethical way.

CS Lewis talks about how Christians are being made into "little" Christs here in this life in anticipation for heaven. We're a work in progress!

Well put. But many of us can make our journey in an equally ethical way without having a belief in a higher power. Furthermore, given our lack of bias towards any particular "higher power" and its idiosyncracies it could be argued that we can be even more ethical.

And this is santification, right?
ahh...to just make the 'decision' and be as perfect as people think one should be. To never struggle with the flesh and be at one with God...but honestly, from life experiences, that wouldn't work either. *sigh* There is much wisdom in the way god works in our lives, making us stronger and more ready for life to come and the world to come. All in all, it is a very good journey.:goodvibes

Absolutely, and that's why said "for Me"..I do not believe one has to be religious to be ethical.

In Christianity, the PRIMARY purpose is not that it makes us ethical (I guess it should), but instead that it makes us RIGHTEOUS before God. Not that that matters to non-Christians.

Actor's Risque Past Halts 'Adam' Film

(06-07) 17:50 PDT Columbus, Ohio (AP) --

The man who plays Adam in a video aired at a Bible-based creationist museum has led a different life outside the Garden of Eden, flaunting his sexual exploits online and modeling for a clothing line that promotes free love.

After learning about his activities Thursday, the Creation Museum in Kentucky pulled the 40-second video in which he appears.

"We are currently investigating the veracity of these serious claims of his participation in projects that don't align with the biblical standards and moral code upon which the ministry was founded," Answers for Genesis spokesman Mark Looy said in a written statement.

The actor, Eric Linden, owns a graphic Web site called Bedroom Acrobat, where he has been pictured, smiling alongside a drag queen, in a T-shirt brandishing the site's sexually suggestive logo. The Web site, which has a network of members, allows users to post explicit stories and photos.

He also sells clothing for SFX International, whose initials appear on clothing to spell "SEX" from afar. It promotes "free love,""pleasure" and "thrillz."

Linden, a graphic designer, model and actor who grew up in Columbus, said he is no longer affiliated with the Bedroom Acrobat site, and had handed the domain name off to somebody. Ownership records available through the NetworkSolutions database show Linden registered the site 18 months ago.

He also said he no longer posts to the site.

Linden said he is very proud to play Adam. "But just because I'm Adam on the screen, that doesn't mean I'm Adam off the screen," he said. "What I do shouldn't have anything to do with who they think Adam is."

The clip he appears in is one of 55 featured on tours of the museum, near Cincinnati in Petersburg, Ky. The museum tells the Bible's version of Earth's history — the planet was created in a single week just a few thousand years ago.

The museum pulled the clip after learning about his online activities from The Associated Press.

Linden, who now lives in Los Angeles, said his modeling work for the clothing line is just one of the many jobs that make up his career. He said he has great respect for the founders of the Creation Museum and their vision.

"For the Creation Museum, I did what I did as an actor. It doesn't necessarily mean I believe in evolution or a believe in creation," Linden said. "I'm hired to get a point across. On the flip side, if I was hired to play a murderer, that doesn't mean I'd go out and kill somebody. It's make-believe."

Adam enjoys forbidden fruit.
