We are going the week of 9-20 thru 9-27. A good friend is going at the same time with her hubby and daughter- we are a family of 4. There would be 7 total...is it crazy to try and get into someplace to eat without ADR. We can't figure where to go --any suggestions for someplace nice but not overly expensive as we are not doing free dining. As a family we are doing Boma, Whispering Canyon, Liberty Tree for lunch, Sci Fi diner. She suggested th luau at the Poly- figure that is expensive and we wouldn't be able to get in (we only have Thursday and Friday to pick from).

My boys are 13 and 11, her daughter is 8. Any ideas on places and if we should just make ADRs if we are able (I was able to get into Boma at the time I wanted just 2 weeks ago when I called to make an ADR).

Thanks

You are very unlikely to get in anywhere without an ADR. The week before free dining began they were already turning away walk-ups by 5pm at every restaurant we went to that week (8 places)
During free dining it is likely to be far worse.
I would attempt to make an adr for lunch time, and make it this week. Lunch is usually less money than dinner, and sometimes easier to get. Call dining and ask what they can find. With 7 people they may tell you 2 tables, but when you get to the restaurant they are very likely to seat you all together (I have never been split from the group, despite 4 ressies that were "2 tables.")
Have fun!!! I just got home and am ready to return already.

I would say your best bets are the restaurants that don't take ADR's: ESPN Club, Big River Brewing Co, Beaches & Cream (all in the Boardwalk area)

I am going the exact same time as you and I can tell you I booked my adrs in March, and have been trying now for weeks to tweak them a little...no luck, nothing available.Very unlikely you will get in without an adr.

I read a tip report about someone having NO PROBLEM walking up, but they got there when the lunch doors opened at 11:00.
She said everything was mobbed after then.

Thanks...might try the places on the Boardwalk as we have never been there. We might also just have to wing it and do counter service- hey we are at Disney so that is all that matters. I must have just lucked out with the Boma one a couple weeks ago. They had a Saturday 20th time and Wednesday night (which we took) open.

I appreciate the help!
