Crazy stories at disney world

In addition to our Disney Collection, Judy and I had built up a fairly large Flamingo collection. One year we were visiting Discovery Island and saw this most fantastic flamingo hat for sale, so we bought it.

When we got to the Flamingo Pond I asked Judy to stand near the side of the walkway and put on the hat, so I could take a picture of her with the flamingos.

Almost immediately after she put on the hat, all the flamingos ducked their heads. Judy felt that she had managed to embarrass the entire flock.

Later on we found out that flamingos will post four sentries to warn them of any problems. Judy was at a location where she was considered a sentry, so the flock felt that it was safe for them to all go to sleep. So Judy is the only person I know of who ever was officially considered a flamingo by the members of a flock. (You can see another "sentry" in the center standing in back.)

I think this is my favorite. Too cute!

I actually have a funny story about the feared Brazilian tour group. My buddy and I were in line with my niece for Peter Pan. Being in our mid 20's this was the last place on earth we wanted to be, but for her anything. Anyway this loud group comes chanting and singing and just being the opposite of what you want when a little hungover standing in line for Peter Pan. My buddy right away points out that all the guys are wearing fanny packs. So he gets one of their attention and proceeds to point at this kid's fanny pack. The entire time he is making kissy faces and doing seductive poses while saying do you like this? The entire line is busting out laughing. The kid finally in perfect english asks why he is doing this and my buddy point blank says Dude you have a fanny pack. At this point the entire group leaves. So there you go. Even though there may be a language barrier every teen has the same weakness..embarrassment from older people.

Too funny..I don't get the whole fanny pack thing either and I'm a woman..I could wear one without mockery. IMO, if you're going to make it very obvious that you're there, by chanting and screaming, then you can't complain when people give you a little grief back. Bet that kid didn't wear the fanny pack for the rest of the trip!

Now, I don't have too many crazy stories..there was one woman who had an "umbrella" hat at AK last year and I've seen quite a few potty mouthed kids(little ones..so it was kind of funny). I'll have to keep a lookout in September.

I have a weird story about SM....I waited forever for my turn. My DH and DD did not (and could not...she was too small) go on but let me since I had not gone on this ride since my honeymoon back in '93. I got all excited when I saw the train, almost time!!! I was talking and having a great time with the people in line and we were all excited that our turn was coming up. Then I was next. I sit in the car and BAM all the lights in the place get turned on, ride shut down. I never saw the inside of Space Mountain unless it was in the dark, a bit weird to see it all lit up. Never got my turn and never learned why the ride shut down. Had to wait a few years to get on it but was well worth the wait. Twice more that day I got on rides for it to shut down or stop for a while. Felt like a jinx!

Seriously folks, we need to stop getting offended by everything. Fact is we are all different but some differences aren't seen as much. It's hard for someone without a disability to even know how to act around disabled people. We get mixed messages. In one instance we are applauded for helping a blind person navigate some scaffolding. But in another we are reprimanded for offering to help them in a strange public restroom. Someone that looks strange to us may get angry when we stare, but others get angry when we look away. Some like to talk about their disability and some get mad if you mention it. If a kid says something wrong in front of or to a disabled person it may be the first time they've seen it. Maybe us good parents will discuss it with them later. We certainly don't start talking about it in front of the person.

My point is only that if you are not exposed to something very often it doesn't mean you are ignorant because you don't know about it.

On one trip, some family friends were with us, not long after Soarin' opened. My youngest DD and I had been on it a number of times (and, OT: like most of the lines at WDW, it is wheelchair accessible, so people with wheelchairs like my DD, can go thru the regular line).

Our friend and his wife had not been on Soarin' before. While we were waiting in line, he kept telling DD that if she was scared, she could hold his hand and he would protect her. He is a big guy, very strong and said he would not let anything happen on the ride. She laughed because she thought it was funny since she had been on Soarin' several times and was not at all scared.

There was a big strong looking man we didn't know on the end of the row, then our friend, my DD, me and friend's wife on my other side.
The lights go out as the seats rise into the sky. When the lights came back on, I looked over at DD and saw she was laughing and looking at our friend. Our big strong friend and the big strong guy next to him were holding hands and hanging onto each other for dear life. All of a sudden they both looked down at their hands, looked really embarrassed and pulled away from each other.

Speaking of flamingo's......

Quite a few years ago when we were at Epcot, there were flamingo's between FW and WS, near first aid and what was the Odessey restaurant. We stood watching them for quite a while. My mother insisted that they were fake. I knew they were real. My mother said" look, you can see the battery in that one's butt."

It was my DGD's first trip to Disney and meeting the characters. She's 4 and was doing well but was somewhat afraid of the "male" face characters. We were in line at MMCH and Alice was with the Mad Hatter. She was happy to meet Alice but when the Mad Hatter came close to her she keep moving in closer and closer to her mom until she knock both her mom and the Mad Hatter over. He laughed, sat on the ground with may daughter and DGD so I could take their pictures and then very graciously helped my daughter to her feet.

I just got back from WDW yesterday. We were at evening EMH at Epcot two Friday's ago. We spent the time strolling around world showcase and then stopped for Soarin on the way out. We were on the last ride of the night. Some jerk decided it would entertain him to pull out a laser pointer and flash it all over the screen the ENTIRE ride. Talk about ruining the experience. My DBIL was with us and it was his first time on Soarin. Luckily we went back that Monday and he got to experience it properly.

My first trip to WDW was in 2005 on my honeymoon. My DH and I were at Epcot and went on the UOE. Shortly after we walked into the second room and got in the seats, the ride was stopped and we were all told there were technical difficulties. That day the only working thing in FW was Test Track. Two year later, we try again and this time, the ride stopped half way through. The lights came on and we had to walk through the dinosours to get out. Believe it or not, the next time we went it was closed due to technical difficulties again. I started thinking it might be us; but happily we have been able to ride it a couple time since.

this happened to us on a trip while in high school, someone had a pointer and was pointing at the screen at muppets 3d, well the guy kinda close to us (who was the size of andre the giant) sound the kid who was doing it, and scared him ****less. made the kid (18 or so)give him the pointer. the kid handed it and ran away, even all his friends were laughing at him.

CM's deserve BIG raises! I think these threads are funny, but if I had to pull some idiot off the Mexican pyramid, round up people in tin foil hats, stop people from harassing the characters, and let's not forget those special few who like to let their children relieve themselves in public, I'd be nuts before lunch.

Have you ever noticed, that when you really need a CM, you just can't find one?

I have another, I'm not sure if this counts as crazy but it did get me mad and did ruin some of the magic....

This past August we were at EPCOT on our last day, so I decided to buy my DD a passport and have her learn the different languages and cultures as we went around the world. Everything was going good, my daughter was having a great time getting her passport signed, the CM's were great, they all talked to my daughter a bit, explained what they had written in her passport, etc. That is until we got to Norway! We got the kidcot area and sitting behind the table was 3 CM's, 2 male (one of them wearing sun glasses indoors ) and the other female, they were chatting away, laughing, being a lil loud in their language, we stood in front of the table for a few minutes before the female turned around grabbed my daughters passport signed it and gave it back and went right back to her interesting conversation.

I know it doesn't seem like much but my daughter stood there for a minute waiting for the young lady to explain what she wrote, never happened, my daughter forgot about it the minute we stepped outside but it just bothered me atleast take a few minutes to do what it your paid to do...

All the other people in all the other countries were great!

On our last trip, we rode the Great Movie Ride at DHS for the first time.

Right behind us in the vehicle was a young couple and their little boy of about 3 years.

He was very quiet and seemed to be enjoying the ride until we got to the part where the driver and the gangster got into a gun fight. As soon the the first shot was fired, the little boy jumped off of his seat and hit the deck. He stayed down on the floor for the rest of the ride and his dad had to give him the 'all clear' before he would disembark. His parents were nearly hysterical with laughter, as were the rest of us.

I just remebered another crazy/funny story. I just returned from 14 days at WDW with 8 friends (17-19 year olds), we stayed at the Pop Century. One day we were leaving one of the parks late in the night, and the bus were really crowded. "New York New York" started playing on the radio. Some of us started singing along, but not too loud. Then some other people on the bus that we didn't even know started singing too!!! And it was getting louder and more people joined!! Almost the whole bus was singing "New York New York", and the ones that weren't singing were laughing. When the song ended, everyone clapped, laughed and complimented each other on the great singing!! And when we arrived at POP, everyone clapped again!! It was hilarious and one of the best memories of this trip.

Your story reminds me of our '98 trip. We went with another couple. The husband has never met a stranger. So, late one night after a full day at the MK, the bus back to ASMu is jam packed. My friend starts singing TV sitcom theme songs. More & more people start joining in. By the time we arrived back at the hotel, practically the entire bus had sung just about every sitcom theme song known to American TV, including the ones with no words, like Bonanza! When the bus stopped at the bus stop, the driver got on the intercom & told us how much he enjoyed it!

I am so sorry for you and your Daughter,I really feel for both of you.I think knothing Is more distressing to a child then to have a Image of a chacter or In your case a experince come crashing down. But we have to remeber that the CM's are just people and like people they will sometimes be how do I say IT?,out of chacter!. So where It may be disapointing dont be to hash on the CM,I bet that later on they all look back and went did we really do that.Sometimes we learn In diffrent ways. So It sounds like your daughter took iT well so scath It up to a CM In training

I have two somewhat icky crazy stories, both of which occurred in 2007.

We were at DHS I believe waiting for my niece to have a pencil portrait done. We saw this lady in her 30's with very short shorts on. It was June and we didn't think much about it until she turned around. Fully half of her butt cheeks were hanging out of her shorts. The kids just died laughing, and of course we had to make sure that everyone got to see the side show. Did she seriously not realize how that looked?

Same trip, we waited for an hour and a half to get on Splash Mountain. We wrongly got FP's for BTMRR instead, and it was really hot. We were so happy to get on the ride. About halfway through, the ride backed up in the tunnel area, and my SIL starts smelling something. The longer we sat there, the clearer it became that the previous occupant of that seat had wet their pants. GROSS! She and my niece had no choice but to wait through the rest of the ride. As soon as she got off, she advised the CM who promptly stopped the ride and cleaned the seat. But their bags and clothes had that odor, and it really put a damper on things.
