Crazy stories at disney world

I have a few...but a feel good one is when we had my dd then maybe 4 yrs old in Epcot. We were in world showcase strolling along when we came across a rotund man with a long white beard with a red shirt and suspenders, well, Becky just kind of froze in place for what seemed like an eternity. The man smiled down at her, handed her a card without a word and strolled away. The card said "you hav just met the real Santa Claus". So, I said, "well, I guess Santa liks to vacation in Disney World too!"

This wasn't in August of 2002 was it? If it was, I saw the same man. He was wearing everything red & white with suspenders and a long white beard. I saw him near Morocco. My husband and I were on our honeymoon and I took a picture of him. I'm still convinced that it was Santa. :)

I Wonder if its the same man my Daughter saw????? :santa: If you can find the pic please post it.

My Family and I were in Epcot on our 1st trip to WDW. My DD (2) and I were trying walking without holding mommy's hand. She saw a man with a white bread in a hawian shirt and she took off on my YELLING at the top of her lungs " ITS SANTA, ITS SANTA" She cut right in front of a CM pushing some kind of cart. :scared1: and pushed through about 20 people. :scared: I caught up with her right before she pounce on him. :yay: I told him how sorry I was, and as I walked back passed the 20 people she had pushed my face beat RED! My DH just stood there laughing. :rotfl:

Not sure if he was the same one as others had seen, we did not get a card.

The poster who started this tangent was expecting "head of the line". And, in fact, stated that they thought that people with disabilities should never have to wait in line.

No, PWD should not have to wait in line when they use a mobility tool that cannot go on the ride with them (i.e. wheelchair, DOG!). My dog can go on most rides, and I stand in the regular line for any ride she can go on. But the ones she cannot, I do and will use the entrance designated to accommodate my need as a PWD.

While I agree that the CM was rude, I did find it ridiculous to claim that standing in the normal line (rather than getting to skip the entire line by going in the exit) was "animal abuse", but walking around WDW all day (in the sun) was perfectly fine.

There goes the "animal abuse" thing again. lol. We did not walk around the park all day "in the sun". I'm blind, not stupid.

While I agree that in many cases a GAC/using a mobility device is not a "head of line" pass and may make for a longer wait, I can easily see where the poster you quoted got the idea - "head of the line" is exactly what the other poster expected.

Incorrect. We did NOT want "head of the line" privilege & certainly did not get a quick jump onto the ride ahead of everyone else. I chose the appropriate accessible entrance to the ride due to my disablity and the MOBILITY TOOL (guide dog) I choose to use (as the WHEELCHAIR is the TOOL the other person uses)

It would be impossible for me to safely access the regular entrance to Splash Mounain with my guide dog. Sure, I could stand in line, go thru the line with everyone else... that is not the point. What some seem to be missing (maybe these folks need the guide dog more then me????) is that I CANNOT take my MOBILITY TOOL (guide dog) on the ride, thus, going thru the regular line with my dog would entail the following:

A person in my group designated to hold my dog while I'm on the ride climbs into the car, across the car, over the water/gap to the opposite platform. I then climb into the car with my dog, my dog must climb across the car to have me hand her leash over to the person on the opposite platform waiting, the dog then has to jump out of the car across the water/gap to the person, where the dog and the person move down the platform a bit to where the ride will drop us off when we return and I meet up with my dog again.

NOT safe maneuvering for me or my dog, and all of that is completely ridiculous to even consider being that the EXIT is the designated ENTRANCE accommodation for a PWD.

Why is that so difficult to understand? Well, it's not, there are simply those who thrive on drama. Sad.

Here's a quote from the original post:

to be honest I think that guests with handicaps should not have to wait in the regular line if they have letters from doctors, etc.

How is that not wanting "head of the line"? There is no mention there about only needing a separate entrance due to mobility aids. You niece stated that people with handicaps should not wait in line AT ALL. Forget the fact that asking for a doctor's note is actually against ADA.

You've got it! Otherwise they wouldn't keep beating a dead horse with this. Sorry you are dealing with so much rudeness.

Didn't want to leave without telling a cute story about my first trip to DW w/my guide dog Merlin. This was back in '95.

I went to DW w/my niece & her family & I had my then guide dog Merlin, a black Labradorable. We had a wonderful time and Merlin seemed to enjoy meeting all the characters as much (if not more then! LOL) me & my little great-niece!

We were in visiting with the Alice In Wonderland characters, and Merlin took a liking to The Mad Hatter. Mad Hatter in his wonderful accent talked with Merlin & petted him & told him what a great job he was doing. At one point Merlin put his head down while Hatter rubbed his neck & scratched behind his ears... and my niece snapped the below pic. As she did, Hatter said to Merlin, "I say, we're getting just a little bit personal now, aren't we?" Everyone in the room busted out laughing. It was just a perfect picture, and a very cute Disney moment.

Hmm... sorry, the words AT ALL are nowhere in that quote, nor are the words "head of the line". Using "etc" (etcetera = continuing in the same way and so forth, and so on) indicates in addition to doctor letters, could be canes, wheelchairs, DOGS. Geez it's like banging my head against a wall. :headache:

I'm well versed on the ADA & what is legal & not... perhaps my niece is not (ooooo trash her trash her!).

Maybe a cookie & a glass of milk will help cure the crankies?

Nope. Putting you on ignore is all that I need.

As will many of us to you. You either can't read or refuse to understand. Not standing in the regular line does NOT equal front of line. It means waiting in the exit until your turn rolls around as if you had stood in line. I typed this slowly so you could understand.

PLEASE can all of you STOP this discussion now and take it to a more appropriate forum. I'm tired of reading all the petty back and forth fighting and I'm sure I'm not the only one. I'm gonna start reporting posts if it doesn't stop. This was NOT what this thread was set up to discuss and a number of us have repeatedly asked for it to stop!

QUIT ALREADY!!!

:thumbsup2How do you do that... put someone on "ignore"? I'm doubting that person will put me on ignore. Once such folks zero in on a target they can't take their eyes off it.:surfweb:

I'm only going to comment one time about all of this because its ridiculous.

I've noticed a pattern on these boards with some of the "negative" posters in this thread. (I say SOME of them to make it clear not all the negative posters are included in this general comment.) I've noticed that a few of these negative posters seem to have a major problem with those that are handicapped.

My first trip to Disney was in the 2nd grade. I traveled there with my brother (1st grade), my father, and my mother who was confined to a wheelchair with Multiple Sclerosis. I'm well aware of the difficulties involved with traveling with those with handicaps.

In NO WAY did I assume I would get front of the line priv's while I traveled with my Aunt and her guide dog. I did assume we could go through the exit because we had in the past many times and I was honestly concerned about the sun and hot pavement. This was an all black dog after all.

You know what I don't like? I don't like that my Aunt cannot see the Magic Kingdom (or any of the other parks for that matter!) She doesn't see the "magic" we all get to see....there will never be a day that she will go under that train station, step out into the circle and see that beautiful castle at the end of the hub. Thats the MAGIC we all get to see! Many others will also never be able to see it, or walk to it, or hear the music playing. Yet many of these people with handicaps will still enjoy the magic Disney has to offer. They just experience it in a different way. Sometimes they get to bypass a line or two, or they get special seating at a show or parade. I don't think thats a bad thing! I think that if we can make any person's life a little easier than we should! Many people struggle daily with handicaps they DID NOT ASK FOR and I do believe that those of us without handicaps should step aside and help them. I'm not a bleeding heart but I spent all of my childhood helping care for (and in some cases being the only caretaker) for a handicapped parent. I know the struggles first hand that many people deal with. Why shouldn't we make it a little easier for people? Why can't we show a bit more compassion?

When traveling with a dog you cannot stay out during the hottest part of the day, you stick to the shade or stay at the hotel. Did I get excited in my post, sure I did! I'm entitled, its a free country and I'm allowed my opinion. There is absolutely no reason in my opinion that a dog should have to sit in the sun and I stand by that. You don't travel with us, you have no idea what accomodations are made to keep the dog safe, happy and protected.

You also have no idea the type of people we are by just reading posts on a PUBLIC discussion board on the internet. You assume that we are "entitled" and think we have the right to just ignore rules. I've been called a "troll" on this board by total strangers who I honestly hope I don't meet on any of my trips to Disney. I've been called out by many very negative people and mostly because I only have a few posts under my belt on these boards. That is ridiculous! I've been a "member" since 2003 and just recently started using this board because I wasn't seeing a lot of activity on another Disney forum I frequented often. I've been going to Disney since I was in 2nd grade, too many times to count. I'm not a newbie, I'm a veteran. And just because I don't post on here very often doesn't make me a bad person or a "troll" as I was so kindly called. I have the RIGHT to have an opinion and if it differs from yours than so be it.

The orginal poster in this thread wanted "crazy" stories and I posted. NOT to cause trouble, to get sympathy or to "troll" but to give my crazy story.

So post away, do what you need to do to keep yourself feeling good but this is truly the last time I will comment on this. I'm sorry I ever told my aunt about this board because she had to witness more negative responses about this than I ever could have imagined. She loves Disney and loves to go there. It is sad that some of these negative nancy's had to be so nasty to her.

If you see us together with her TWO dogs on our next trip please feel free to say hello...unless your name is Negative Nancy then please step aside so you don't ruin our trips :)

Best post I've seen on the DIS boards!:thumbsup2 You are definitely NOT a troll, so ignore childish comments like that.

Hard to sit & be silent in the midst of such blatant rude behavior regarding a situation related directly to me.
It is completely impossible to convince anonymous people on the internet of anything with 100% satisfaction. So my advice would be to not even try. :thumbsup2 You stated your case very eloquently a few pages back. Those that are going to get it, already get it. Just leave it at that. Don't bother responding to further comments. It's futile.

In the meantime, I wanted to say, Welcome to the Dis. :disrocks: All of us here get aggravated from time to time. But there's also a lot of great stuff here, too. So try to enjoy the good and let the rest go.

BTW, I enjoyed your stories and love the picture of your dogs (as well as learned from your posts). Would love to see you post some more pictures of them on the Photgraphing Pets thread on the Photography Board.

Sorry OT.

Let's get back to the original topic of this thread and end the arguing back and forth here. Any further arguments will be deleted and may result in infractions being issued.

Thanx! :flower3: I've been enjoying reading the stories here overall & some had me in stitches! I'm SO looking forward to returning to WD with my niece hopefully next year, will no doubt come back with some great stories to add! LOL!

And I'll be sure to go check out the pets thread. I "see" the world thru pictures... have my camera with me everywhere I go. Even just riding along in the car, I snap pix along the way. When I get them upoaded onto the computer I'm AMAZED at what I've captured, things I'm not able to see in the real world just come to life thru my pictures. I feel very blessed to have enough functional vision in one eye left to view pictures enlarged on the screen. Opens up the world to me.
