Crazy Snow...

Sarnia and area is getting it real good today - our first real snow. The highways and roads outside of the city are closed. I live outside the city, we have 7 foot snow drifts in our driveway and out on the road and 0 visibility. My DH can't make it home - he left work at noon in a 4X4 but there were cars and transport trucks stuck at one end of our road, snow drifts too deep to get through at the other end. The police or EMS can't even get out here they have announced on the radio. There are 1000s of people stranded on the 402 between here and Strathroy since early this morning - the OPP are going out on snowmobiles to get them! They pulled the plows off the roads at 9 am!!!! Hopefully it lets up soon!

Looks like it will be a white Christmas in most parts of Southern Ontario - I am hoping the snow gives us a break Thurs/Fri so our drive to Buffalo and flight get out ok. My white Christmas will be white sand!!

They've declared a state of emergency here in the Sarnia-Lambton area. There are hundreds of people stranded in cars on the 402 since yesterday morning and even snowmobiles can't get to them. I live in the country and we have 8-10 ft drifts all over our property, so I'm assuming it is the same on the highway. They deployed military helicopters this morning but they can't land! What a horrible situation. I'm sure those cars have or are about to run out of gas after being out there for more than 24 hours! Hopefully they can get to them soon somehow.

We are driving from Stratford to Detroit on Saturday as we fly out early Sunday morning. We always go through Sarnia. I hope that this is cleaned up. We drove home from Birch Run last Monday and Sarnia had no snow but by the time we got to the Strathroy cutoff on the 402 it was very bad driving. That was the same day that London/Lucan got the big storm

Scary stuff. I hope everyone ends up being okay.
We have started to get blowing snow here in the last hour or so, I hope we don't get as much as you.

Ill trade all you in Ontario the snow for all the rain and flooding we got here in the Maritime's at least you will have a white Christmas lol:confused3

Okay let me preface by saying I know it could be worse, I could be one of those poor souls that got stuck on the 402 for 24-48hrs but when I walked out my front door this morning and stepped down into snow above my waist I almost cried... actually I laughed. Loud enough that my husband heard me inside and wondered what was so funny. I mean really, what are you going to do? Anyway, I thought maybe it was just from drifting so I ventured down out behind the van and I was right... it only came to just above my knees down there

Western and Fanshawe are closed again today postponing exams again. Those kids who had hoped to be home by now are stuck there until at least the weekend due to exam rescheduling ... I'm lucky my son's home but his roommate is still there - the Freshmen are all physically sick and mentally tired (and tired of shovelling) and just want to be home ....

My wife and I actually just moved from that area (to St. John's, NL), but we still have family there. They were all making fun of us, saying how much snow we'd get, and that I'd have to build up some muscles to shovel it all.

Oh how the tables have turned. It's still above 0* here. Luckilly most of my family is actually in St. Thomas, so not as much snow.

I'd be more than willing to take some from them though, to get a white Christmas.

I'm so lucky my school hasn't had a snow day yet, but if one were to happen, all those exams get rescheduled for the LAST DAYS of exams, meaning, right before Christmas. I'm so glad that didn't happen to me.

BTW, I go to Waterloo, and the snow is pretty bad over here too.
