Crazy Question: How Do I Get In?

Okay...I'm a newbie so I'm confused!

I've been reading (everything I might add) about getting to the MK *early*..before opening to get in line. I've read several times about a TTC and then taking a ferry or the monorail into the MK!?!?!?! Do I not just get in a line, go through a turnstile and then I'm in MK?

Please explain to me how I get into MK! :confused3

The Magic Kingdom is set up so you aren't parking right outside the main gates like most amusement parks. Instead, you park in the main lot at the Transportation & Ticket Center (TTC) and take either the monorail or ferry boat to the entrance of the Park. I'm sure it was Walt's idea to further seperate you from that day-to-day reality of drive up/get out and offer a chance to be "transported" to somewhere special...

If you're staying onsite, you could take a bus (or monorail, or boat if applicable) directly to each park. We usually drive to WDW so, we drive from our resort, go park, then ride a tram from parking lot to the parks. At the MK, it's a bit different. You park, ride a tram, then take the monorail or boat to the gates.

That's why this upcoming trip, we're staying at a monorail resort..;)

I think it would be easiest to let you know how to get there if you let us know where you are staying. Off-site/On-site, which resort.

:)

Oops!
We are staying at Coronado Springs Resort.

If we take the resort bus/shuttle to MK, do we still have to take the monorail or ferry into MK? Or, does the resort/shuttle take you directly to the MK entrance?

Thank you!

I've only taken the bus once and maybe I'm remembering incorrectly but, I think it took us straight from CBR to MK.

As you are staying at the Coronado Springs, the bus will take you from CS directly to the front entrance (bus stop) at the Magic Kingdom.

Only if you park at the TTC will you need to take a tram from the parking lot to the TTC entrance, and then either the monorail/ferry to the Magic Kingdom gates.

It's been 10 years since my only visit to MK. We drove. I remember parking & then taking a "trolley"(??) type ride to the front gate. I don't remember any ferry or monorail. Did I forget something or have things changed?

Its always been that way you either take a ferry or monorail to the front gate from the parking lot. can't you remember taking the monorail through the CR?
Thats the only reason to ride the monorail.

Nope. Really don't remember riding the monorail. Maybe I am crazy, but I seem to remember getting on a flat escelator (sp) type thing. I remember the parking lot being huge & walking to where we loaded onto the tram/trolley...

This time we are onsite with only bus transportation from CSR. Maybe seeing things will jog my memory???

All I know is that my parents drove me to MK the first year or so it was open, back in July of 1972. We took the ferry from the parking lot to the front of MK, and on the way back we took the monorail through the Contemporary, then got off at the TTC to get back to our car. It's EXACTLY the same now as it was then. You must be remembering some other theme park or something.

The buses that go between resorts and theme parks (and Downtown Disney, and the water parks) are collectively known as Disney Transport, but let's just call them buses here. If you're going to MK from ANY Disney resort by bus, the bus will drop you off at one of 15 or 20 bus stops, and then you walk what amounts to a few blocks. Just in front of the entrance is a security stop. There are tables, and if you have any bags they will be quickly and courteously searched -- they're pretty much just looking for anything dangerous. After that, you move on to the turnstiles, and after that you're inside MK!!! When you leave, you walk back to a different part of the bus area (there are signs) and wait at the stop designated for your resort.

It works exactly the same at the other 3 theme parks. It's really quite a simple system; you'll get the hang of it in no time. Hey, if my in-laws can do it without messing up, ANYONE can, believe me!

You can't go to disney without riding the monorail, its like not seeing small world. You gotta at least ride the resort monorail sometime while your there.

Maybe this will help you remember lol!

Maybe the "trolley" is the trams they use to transport people from the parking lot to the monorail station. There are ramps from ground level to the monorail station--maybe that was the flat escalator? ;)

Thanks everyone! I feel so much better now. Not sure why that was causing me so much confusion and stress, but it was! :earseek:

I saw in you signature you went to universal in 2005. There you ride a flat esculator thing from the parking lot to the gate.
