Crazy experience at It's a Small World

No, I in no way intened to be rude and honestly didn't even think aobut it. My youngest DD fell asleep in DH's arms and I thought it was so cute I was just snapping away... (is there a *head in clouds* smiley? ;) ). I never heard the announcement saying don't do it, and I never saw a sign (wasn't looking for one though), or I certainly wouldn't have taken the pics. (Got yelled at for taking a photo of my DD sitting on the floor waiting for everyone else to get seated to talk to crush...and the CM hadn't even made the "no flash photog" announcement yet! LOL!) I'm glad I read this, because I don't want to ruin anyone else's experience, and if I did want to, I would wear a bikini top instead of taking pictures ;) (sorry...couldn't resist... :p )

Thanks for the info...and I'll certainly be more aware of where I am NOT supposed to take pics this time!

That would be hard to resist of your DD sleeping :cloud9: LOL

And about the bikini top.... :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: In that case, everyone else will be taking pics of YOU! ;) :3dglasses

You know, I could see tossing A coin into the water and making a wish because there are already so many coins in there, so one might assume it's okay. But HURLING coins toward the dolls? And the parents just sit there?? And then they all break out with the flash photography???? What a bunch of IDIOTS!!!!!

It definately would've taken the magic out of my ride. I might've said that you're not really supposed to hurl objects at the dolls but I don't think it would've done any good. And in this day and age, especially at Disney with all the videos and cameras, stupid behavior is just BEGGING to be taped and uploaded onto the internet.

I can just see the news story now:

12 Small World dolls were rushed to the nearest doll repair shop after being pelted with various forms of us currency. Our sources inside the attraction confirm that this was not a accident.:rotfl2:

Drama on the DIS. Seriously, this is the only Disney board with such hostility with every topic. I can tell the the people on here are here not for Disney, but to complain, which is sad.

I see nothing wrong with the OP. His/her actions were justified, and I'm glad that the op video taped them. They were disrespecting property, and it's discusting that they did not have any manners. I can't possiby see why anyone would object to this. You can't see thie faces know their names, etc. Seems stupid to get upset about that.

I know exactly what I would do.

I would quietly and with a concerned tone say to the adults, "Please don't let the kids throw the coins at the figures, I think they are damaging them."
And, if the adults continued to ignore the coin throwing, I would say a little louder, "Kids, you have to stop throwing the coins and damaging the figures!"

If you yell or get confrontational, it will just escalate.
You would certainly be calmer than me. I have ZERO problem speaking up and saying something to someone in a situation like that. I would have told the kids to cut it out as soon as I saw the first coin get whipped "Hey! Cut it out! Don't throw things at the dolls!". Then, I would have confronted the parents and threatened to tell a CM if they didn't make their kids stop. What are they going to do to me? Throw me out of the boat? If the kids continued to whip the coins then I would have told the first CM I saw as soon as I reached the dock. The family might have been able to escape, or maybe not. It's a long walk up to the exit which is usually guarded by another CM. Even if they did escape, at least I would have had a bit of amusement at seeing them hoof it out of there.

Yup...DD #1 slept thru dinner with Cinderella at the GF and DD#2 slept thru IASW!!:confused3 (Oddly...I don't have said pic of DD#2 in my photobucket...:3dglasses )

Oh...and I'll spare you the pic of me and my bikini... ;)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe IASW is one of the few or perhaps the only attraction that is not monitored. It was never monitored, even after the refurbishment.

this is what i was going to add, only I need to approach it from the other angle. i think it's the rule more than the exception. POTC is well known for having several cameras for example, but HM has zero.

most attractions have triggers such as sensors to detect when someone exits the vehicle (and quite honestly there are attractions where leaving the vehicle can render you lifeless, such as HM considering the ballroom and seance scenes for example have no floor and a sizeable drop should you decide to make an 'early exit.'

in fact, while disneyland used to have a problem with guests stealing the poisoned apple from the hag in snow white, i'm pretty sure i've read it's been possible for guests to exit the POTC vehicle to steal the keys from the dog (although that probably came from david koenig)

I know while back, there was a thread about, the sensors being tripped in HM because some teenagers got out of the vehicle and tried to steal some stuff from the attic scene.

The ride was stopped and security, approached the doombuggy containing the teenagers and escorted them out of the ride.

It seems that they do have cameras in HM, how else would they know who the culprits were?

Well a CM that I had gotten to know pretty well decided to put me in my own boat, so I grab the front row seat in the front boat of the 2 getting ready to go. So then the gates open and no one in line for the other boat gets in, so when I turned around I was all alone on the one ride I am really scared to break down on :scared1:! When I got off I was like, you never said I would be all alone!:confused3 and he was like, well I don't know why those other people didn't get in that boat!:lmao:

Now back to topic, I would have told off those brats even though I am a tween! :D

I just watched Part 1 again, and I hadn't noticed that you can hear the mother say "The frogs are coming up." If you notice, the girls really went wild trying to hit the frogs, so I'm going to bet they do this every time they ride! This was definitely the weirdest experience I've had on a Disney vacation!

for the trouble makers whining about taping someone elses children and putting them on the internet...............thats just dumb. if i am wrong and you are right amost every vacation video ever made needs to be destroyed post haste. cause there are strangers in every one of em. and youtube is full of em. a lot made by the webmasters of this site. IMHO you are just trying to start trouble!!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe the CMs didn't do anything b/c they know WDW really really needs the money.;) But of course, there are easier and less damaging ways to part with your money at WDW.....

I don't understand why adults let their kids act like that. For one thing it's rude, because other people are trying to enjoy the ride & also it could have damaged something...I don't think Walt Disney would have been very pleased with this behavior. ;)

OMG, why that's Bonnie Rae and Liza Lee, I recognize that white hoodie anywhere. :rotfl2: Seriously folks, you can't really see the girls, so what is the big deal. And like others have said you can't film much of anything at Disney w/o getting others in your shots. That is life in the technology age, there aren't many places that are truly private.

There is a difference in putting something up for the world to see because you want it there, and some one else putting up the same thing without getting your permission first. (Personally, I understand that privacy is essentially out the window in public. I'd be more outraged if I had given some one a picture and they posted it than over film some one else took in the dark where you can't really see anything.)

That said, back to topic -- which is the fact that children were doing something damaging and potentially harmful on a ride. My shock is not that the OP didn't say anything to a CM. I would think the person who was hit with the coins would have said something. And the way those boats come in, you'd have known if he did or not. I think I would have had a lot to say if some one was hitting me with anything.

Just remember folks, nobody needs to take personal repsonsibility for their own actions anymore. It's just easier to blame it on somebody else, like the guy who didn't report them.

I don't think anybody "blamed" the OP for not reporting them. I think people have just expressed their opinion about what they would've done had they been in that situation.

You get what you raise, and in future years these people may wonder why the kids are messed up :sad2:

I agree with the OP. I probably wouldn't have done anything either if my kids were on the boat with me. I tend to be hot headed and have learned if I get upset, it mostly just upsets me. The shame of it is, behavior like that just means more rules for the rest of us down the line. I don't know how much Disney spends because people can't live within simple rules or what % of our ticket price is spent on "policing", but its got to be a bunch. As for me, my goal is that my family enjoys every minute. I feel bad that the OP had to experience that, but take the bad with the good, I guess:)
