Crazy Canucks!- Who is going with me in August???

We will 1st be in Clearwater Beach from August 2-10 and then we will be at WDW from August 10-20. We are also driving down using Interstate 75 and personally we like that better then flying.

We'll be showing our lime green mickey ears on our car on the I 75! We are making a pit stop outside of South Carolina- we watch the show Diners, Drive In's and Drive By's on the Food Network channel and there is this crab shack that is apparently to die for. We're detouring by 1 hour to go there! I remember one time when I was younger with my parents, we drove down we saw 16 fellow Canadians that we knew from our community. (township) It was crazy! Hope you have a great drive down. It will be the first time for my DH. I hope we don't drive each other crazy! :drive:

We are heading to WDW on Aug. 11 - 25...but we will only be on property from Aug. 13 - 23. We are driving from Saskatchewan so it is going to take us a couple of days to drive there. We are staying at CSR...and hoping for FD but are going even if there is no FD :thumbsup2

I also hope you have a great time and in the Clearwater Beach/Indian Rocks Beach area we went to a restaurant called Keegan's Seafood Grill, that was also featured on Diners, Drive In's and Drives.

It is about 4000 km each way, and according to Expedia maps it should be around 36 - 37 hours. We are going to try and do it in 2 days...DH and I are going to take turns driving and we will stay one night in hotel, most likely in Chicago. We are going to be leaving Saskatchewan at around midnight and driving 20 - 24 hours the first day and then the remainder of the trip the following day. We used to take a 16 hours road trip every year so we know that we could do 20 hours easily. We will take turns driving and sleeping, we just want to try and get through as much as possible the first day.

WOW that's a serious trek!
I am not sure I could ever do that....I wouldn't want those kind of miles on my car either.
Safe travels!!!! Hope it's a prettier drive than I-75 can be for us!

Aww, you'll be leaving right before I arrive on the 17th! :sad1:

Awww.. I will make sure to leave SOME Magic behind .. we won't scoop it all up .. I promise!! ;)

That is awesome, our kids would LOVE that! Very cool idea...:)

We got the Decals from Sandy Lion warehouse which is located in Markham just north of Toronto. They are the "bedroom" decals.. they were VERY hardy, and survived the whole 4200km round trip, the torrential downpours we drove through and everything..

We also did the sides of the car, and each of the kids got to decorate the area under their window.. Then we painted the windows with Crayola Window Markers (Not quite so hardy.. we hit some rain in VA and the color all disappeared..)

It's great fun (and fyi, I am a MAN .. and I loved it!!!)

That is crazy long!!! :scared1: I don't know if I could survive that long on a car with my DH!! :rotfl: I think we are pushing it now with 6-8 hours at a time! :lmao: He's a bad driver and it stresses me out! OK- so mabie 'bad' is the wrong term, he gets distracted at times and tailgates on occasion which drives me crazy!!! I think that I might just take some gravol and pass out for the trip!! :rotfl2:

Hi,
We hope to go Aug 23 to Sept 2 (or 3). We are waiting for free dining and reasonable airfare from Buffalo or Detroit. Hopefully, Carribean Beach Aug 23-27. We have Hard Rock Hotel for Aug 28. AKL concierge for Aug 29, (Waitlisted for AKLconc for Aug 30 and 31). Beach Club Aug 30-Sept 1. We will add days if needed--plus maybe cancel AKL and change it to Beach Club so we don't have to move around any more than we are it depends on the waitlist. I'm open to comments re: our plan.

Mastesd;

Give reservations a call and ask about any pins.. we just booked on Weds, and had a pin for Free dining attached to us (for aug 1-15th). It took us as a complete surprise, as i see a lot of people WAITING for FD, and here I had it.

Going to wait till last minute till I book anything. Most likely will be visiting family in Ontario near the end of August. So the plan will be to drive down to WDW for the last week of Aug. Then drive back to New Brunswick visiting friends and family in Pennsylvania and Washington. If it does happen it will be decided the week before.

Love the decorated car.
Just waiting until tomorrow to book air-sothwest from detroit.
I want to go that last week of aug/ending at Labour day
I have been having bad pain in my hip (broke it 7 years ago) and have an appointment tomorrow at the specialist- want to make sure I'm ok to go first

Then what to do??? Its just me and my 2 kids dd11 and ds7-always rents a car
I'm throwing around these
1) Bonnet creek -a 1 bedroom at 100 per night-then would have to pay parking but would save on food
2) find DVC points to rent I think at 10 the cost wold be the same-Board walk or AKL villas (the cheap ones) but it seems too expensive on weekends so i probably will have to move
3) Hope for a sale/pin for a MODERATE thinking corondo or Port of orleans?? Not sure. I want to keep my room cost at around 700 for 7 nights. If we stayed on site I think I would go for the counter plan- or just pay out of pocket-with the car we can go off site to eat too

Thoughts??
