Crash! You want us to do what? A Kennedy,WDW, and GKTW TR Dec 2010

Hello everyone! I hope I didn't lose any followers out there. I have had my surgery and I am almost a week through recovery. Been a hard one but hopefully we are on the right track now.

Ok so where were we. Ahh yes we were in Berea Kentucky and stopped to fill up our tummy's. Next stop was our most favorite stop on I75. The Jelicho rest area. I don't know why but for some reason that has always been our "family stop". Had the weather of been a little warmer we would have definately packed a sack lunch for a picnic.

Moving right along we made our way to Georgia and had had planned on stopping in Macon but due since there was an accident we went up a little further on the other side and stopped at a Best Western hotel. So got a good nights sleep there and the kids and hubby took a really COLD dip in the indoor pool:) we got up the next morning to hit the road to Florida!

We left the hotel early for us at 7:03am and Cape Canaveral Bound!:cool1:So far I can't say that Ty slept one wink in the van but Sierra sure caught a few shut eyes which was really good as she is usually the one not to sleep. A cop had just pulled over the guy that was right beside us. WoW! I made reservations on the fly with a Best Western in Cocoa Beach.

9:16am WELCOME TO FLORIDA! Yep we made it to the rest area and had some of their really good orange juice and grapefruit juice. Unfortunately this picture was on my phone:( So I don't have the kids pics in front of the Palm Tree's.

Up Next: Cocoa Beach-Beautful Scenery!

We made it to our first Destination.
2:26pm Cocoa Beach.

So I am not a "boat" person by any means.Nor am a huge water person. So getting me on a cruise is a very slim chance. But when we drove by the ships I had to take a deep breath at how beautiful they really are. We have never ever seen a cruise ship before and to see them sitting at port. Wow!

Here is a pic I took of one of them.

After that we proceeded to get lost a bit. Or take the more "scenic route" as some may call it but in the end we found our hotel. Wasn't where I thought it would be as a picture certainly sometimes isn't worth a thousand words. The picture showed it being right on the ocean but we at least had a an ocean view that was spectacular.

I was sick the entire trip here. This is where my problems began that preceeded my surgery. My stomache was very sore. But I made it to go down to the ocean for a bit. It was very cool outside but 60-70ish wasnt too bad. The kids looked for sea shells and we took some video. My mil just walked along the beach and soaked it all in. Dh made Sierra and Tyler both get in the Ocean at least once as they were both very young the last time we were at an ocean. Sierra has been to Myrtle Beach with my parents while we took Ty to Cleveland Clinic though. It was chilly but again doable.

Our view:

IMG_20101204_154326.jpg

Sierra wouldn't let us do her. Ug teenagers!!:rotfl:

Ahh the Pier. Such a beautiful site.I wish we could have taken a walk on it but with me feeling cruddy I just didn't really feel up to it.

That beach sure does look inviting, especially with several inches of snow outside my window right now!!

Oh I couldn't agree more! We have snow here too. The kids had a snow day today and I am so thankful hubby was off work to keep them busy for me. Today I thought I would hit hubby up for planning our next vacation that won't be for at least a year from now but hey I can start saving now. Lets just say I put a few "idea's" in his head :rotfl:

So after we went in and got cleaned up from all the sand (and I wasn't so sure we left much behind:lmao:) we thought we would head out for some dinner. We went to Boston's Seafood. Mil got some fettacini alfredo with Shrimp and Dh got some kind of sandwich I can't remember what it was exactly but neither of them was very happy with the protion. Sierra kept wanting mil's shrimp lol so she didn't get much of it. It was kind of high priced too. But I was pretty happy with my Grilled chicken sandwich. Ty I think got a grilled cheese sandwich. I had lots of food pics and some pics of the inside but yet again:( (are you seeing a pattern here?

I did however get a pic of what happens when you

feed the birds out on the balcony. Ty and mil was happily feeding the birds the loaf of bread I packed. They were loving it. It was really neat to watch the birds hover and actually catch the bread in mid air.

But well a bird has to potty right?? So Ty was in the line of fire lol!!

And here is mil and him washing it away. lol We were all laughing so hard. He is just lucky it wasn't his head!!

After we ate we went to Ron Jon's surf shop. We saw very little as we had to leave in a hurry as I just couldnt do it anymore with my stomache. But we did manage to get a few t-shirts and the kids got some sand in the bottle magnets and then off we went back to the hotel so hubby and mil dropped me and the kids off so they could run to the store. While they were gone the kids got dressed for swimming in the pool. Hubby and mil got back and took the kids down to the pool a bit while I tried to settle my stomache.

So while I'm in the ladies room I look at the wall and see something moving. A not one but several:scared1:They were little tiny ants! Crawling all over! The bathtub, the walls, the door the floor. Outside the RR up on the cieling was a tile that was loose and they were coming in from there. So when dh and mil got back we discussed it. I couldnt move. I was sick.I had no energy to pack everything up and move rooms. All I could do is go to the restroom. So I called the front desk and told them and they offered us another room but I had to decline so they said they would give us half off our room which was ok I guess. So we slept with a room full of ants. And mil didn't want to sleep out in the pull out couch so I had to sleep with Ty on this tiny little pull out couch while dh, Sierra and mil slept all cozy in the bedroom beds. A Majority of the ants were in the kitchen and livingroom. Thankfully we had our own airtight cooler with our food in it that they couldnt get into. I didn't sleep that night and felt every coil hit my body all night long.Ty was pretty restless too but he slept. He loves pull out couches. Silly boy!

The next day which was Sunday by the way I think I have my days mixed up earlier:) we packed up and settled our check and headed for Cape Canaveral!

Coming up next: http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=40763886&postcount=38 Will we survive this trip to Kennedy Space Center?

Hi everyone. I just wanted to pop on here and say that Ty had his surgery. It ended up being 16hrs long as they ran into a complication and had to call in a 3rd surgen. He spent 2 days in ICU but is doing good now on the regular floor. Has had a few fevers but cultures and labs are normal so far. He will be here a few weeks.

I have my trip report with me so as soon as Tim can be with Tyler a little bit while I go to the RMH I will try to get some TR posts in.

I am a lurker on a lot of the Make A Wish threads and have been reading your story! Your son is an amazing boy!

I just went to your Caringbridge and saw that you were at Cincinnati's Children's Hospital! I volunteer for their fundraiser walk they do each year! That hospital has done so much for my family over the years!

They are wonderful arent they? They have been amazing to us. Really good to Ty. I couldn't ask for nicer nurses and doctors.

Do you live close to Cinci?

I actually live in Cincinnnati! :cool1:

And yes they are amazing just about two years ago they saved my younger brother's life. Not too count mine so many years ago.

Wow what a blessing Twice!! We live around 45mins ish from Cinci. The urology team is amazing. He sees neuro, gi, urology, rehab, pulmo pt, ot, speech and a few others here.

It's nice that you are able to live close enough to such a great hospital!

If you need anything while you are here for the next few weeks don't be afraid to ask!

Thank you so much:) Ty actually got to come home yesterday:cool1: He is doing well so far but I have alot of care to do at home for him so i'm still just a bit busy. When things settle down (and I get some much needed sleep) I will try to get an update. I keep looking at my notebook thinking I really need to get busy!

I find it very interesting that right outside his hospital room was a Mickey Mouse picture. I have a pic of it I want to post as soon as I get a chance. My mom and dad also bought him a "walking" Mickey balloon at the hospital. He was so big he had to stay in the bathroom in the shower:rotfl: I have a pic of that too:laughing:

Pixie Dust to all!!!

Just trying to keep my thread open so I can finish it:) Ty went back in the hospital Feb 13th. He has a severe kidney infection they are trying to treat. Which caused his gut to shut down. They did a spinal tap that I am getting mixed answers on. One team says normal (because they were looking for menengitis) but the other team just told me he has encephalitis. So I am looking for clarification. Everytime we get ready to go home his temp goes up. Still hoping to go home today though!

Just started reading your trip report! Had to mention that my son also goes to Cincinnati Children's and sees a group of specialist there for his Duchenne's Muscular Dystropy. What an amazing hospital!! Can't wait to read more about your trip!!

Praying he gets better and you get the answers you need soon.

I am back and I'm going to work on this trip report. Ty finally got his last tube removed day before yesterday so the worst part hopefully is over. It has been a long 3 months! But he is finally doing well. Although he is still out of school for another month but hey summer is right around the corner so I need to get this freezing Disney trip report done:rotfl:

Were off to see the Space Shuttle Discovery!

Just before we left the hotel Sierra started in with her tummy. But we pressed on. Thankfully she did "ok" on the ride to Cape Canaveral. Between me and her we didn't have as great as a trip to see the shuttle as we would have liked. But I digress we still had a good time.

Thanks to a nice angel at Kennedy we were able to take the tour that goes out near the shuttle. We were able to see the Discovery out on it's pad and we were very lucky to see that as it had been delayed several times so it worked out in our favor. Breathtaking to say the least.

We also got to see the Challenger pad they were tearing down.

Disney World at last![SIZE="2"[/SIZE]

After a bit of a rough trip with the hubby and mil you know how traveling with "moms" can be :) lol we finally arrive at All Star Movies! On the way there Ty had found a deer standing at a pond on the side of the road. I thought that was pretty cool.

We checked in and got our balloons from the front desk. I should have took hubby one to lighten his mood lol. We went and found our rooms and they were accross from each other rather then beside each other but that was fine. We both had corner rooms. We had to re-request the fridge since it wasn't in there and mil's room smelled of cigarette smoke. No worries they got the smell out and the fridge was there in no time. We got settled then went down to the cafe and got some good food and our refillable mugs for the week. After we ate mil went to the gift shop and bought what she promised the kids for Christmas. Sierra a Castle and Ty a Monorail. Now will we fit those in the van on the ride home is the question!
TriptoDisneyWorldDec2010098.jpg

Me mil and Sierra stayed and shopped around while Tim took Ty back to the room as he needed to get in some comfy clothes. On our way back we all 3 sat in the race car from Toy Story and we laughed till we cried. None of us could get out of that thing!

Some pictures
