Neither...cranberry relish for me. Made from fresh cranberries, orange juice and sugar.

Same here! I hope someone's made it for today; I'm already craving it big time.

:goodvibes
I like/serve both jellied and whole berry.

Cranberry *anything* is okay in my book!

Ditto!

I grew up with jellied cranberry sauce and always liked it. Then 12 years ago I moved to Massachusetts and was served whole berry at a restaurant and now that's the kind I choose. I love cranberry-anything, too! :thumbsup2

It must be the state! ;)

We all should do a State Food Swap. :teeth: We swap the foods that our state or region is known for, so we can find out what is really great about them.

I'll send NY bagels, cheesecake & pizza. :cool1:

I want: MA cranberry something
PA: A real philly cheesesteak
TX: BBQ
LA: Something cajun or blackened

That sounds awesome. I was going to buy jellied cranberry but when I saw the enormous amount of carbs & sugar it contains I put it back on the shelf.
I ain't exactly eating healthy today, but that stuff was ridiculous(of course I love it).

For diabetics, there is a new concept called Glycemic Load. It not only measures how much sugar/carbs are actually in a food, but more importantly, how much a person normally eats of it in one sitting so the real effect of it in the body is measured.

This concept allows diabetic to eat ice cream in small portions because there is so much protein & fat to offset the amount of sugar. (I'm all for a diet that includes ice cream! :woohoo: ;) )

Compared to how much other unhealthy foods we gorged on today, the unhealthy cranberry sauce is probaby a minimal portion. :thumbsup2

We will skip over adding up ALL the unhealthy foods we had today and just sleep it off instead. :rolleyes1 ;)

I like the whole berry. I had jellied all of my life until a few years ago. Once I tasted the whole berry, I will never go back to jellied again.

I remember when I went to a relatives house for dinner when I was a kid. I thought they were serving jellied cranberry sauce, but when I bit into it I found out it was beets. Yuck.

Argh! Cranberries - Ugh Ack Uck!

And the funny part - my parents own 16 acres of cranberry bogs. :rotfl:

Hmmm.... Maybe that's why to much time spent standing up to my knees in berries (Seriously you don't want to know what goes up the pipe with those berries.) Plus as a kid I was indundated with cranberry foods: Cranberry Sauce (whole and jelly), Cranberry Juice, Cranberry Pie, Cranberry Chutney, Cranberry torte, cranberry muffins, cranberry bread, cranberry cake, and on and on and on. and all of it home-made.

BTW - for those of you who are freaked out by the carbs DM makes a sugar free version of Cranberry Sauce for my diabetic father that anyone with a stove could easily make.

I made my first cranberry sauce today. Just went with the recipe on the back of the bag of cranberries...bag of berries, cup of sugar, cup of water. Boil/simmer until it's ready.

SO good! Well I did squish a big wedge of orange over the pan so it had some orange juice in it...

Hubby's been keeping a can of junk, I mean HFCS & gelatin-containing cranberry jelly, that he bought the first Thanksgiving after his dad died (dad died the day after T'giving in '06...Robert bought the stuff wihtout looking at the offensive ingredients), because that's what they always had...and today after trying the sauce I made, he was OK with throwing it away. SO good.

And he couldn't figure out why they add gelatin, as the real stuff today "jelled" all by itself.

my zinfandel cranberry sauce was a big hit!

even my cranky ole, redneck BIL liked it and helped himself to the bowl twice! i was shocked.

I love homemade whole berry with a little marmalade, nutmeg and toasted almonds mixed in while it's still hot.

Jellied for me. My mom is the only one in our family that likes whole berries. DH doesn't like it at all so if I serve it only me and my son eat it.

best recipe is on the back of the bag... its no-cook and fresh tasting... a bag of fresh cranberries, 1 whole orange (peel and all) and a cup of sugar.... food process it alltogether and its delish!!:goodvibes
