Sandy, Forbidden to run???
Heidi, I am so trying to pack light. I even brought down my super lightweight luggage that had the largest suitcase destroyed by Southwest Airlines a few years ago. It is the medium size bag that I will be using. It looks large until you open the sucker, then it appears so tiny. I am going to take the 22X9X14 or what or how ever you put that as my carryon. I am going to put one bathing suit, my hairdryer, straightener and one outfit in there. Oh and my toileteries and medicine in there. Now Jeff is larger than I am and of course his clothes are heavier. He will take a large piece of luggage that has the garmet bag included into the suitcase. 2 of my dresses will go in there. I really think we are going to make this work.
When going thru my vacation closet I noticed the things I was pulling out all had a theme that could go with black. That is why I am going to take 2 pairs of black capris. One is dressy and one is casual. This helps a lot in cutting out on clothes. I am only taking one pair of black shoes to go with all of my clothes for dinner.
I figure during the day I will be in a swim suit, thus the 5 bthing suits. Oh I did plan on borrowing (back) my black bikini to take so that will be 6 bathing suits. I will throw the black one in my carryon. If I am not in a bathing suit I will be in shorts and a tshirt. I really do not need 3 pairs of shorts but the tan and white pair are very lightweight so that will give me options. Of course you have to take jean shorts.
Now I plan on wearing jeans, tshirt and tennis shoes. I may or may not take my jacket in my packing list with me. If I have room in the luggage I will not take it with me. This way my real heavy clothes will be on me and save me some weight in the luggage. I really hate that USAir charges for the first bag. The only out of country they do not charge is for Europe now. So I have figured in 2 bags at $15 a pop. Then the Domican makes you buy a "tourist card" for $10 US upon arrival and a $20US leaving tax as you leave. Plus I just read that the tourist card may be $15 by the time we go.
Excursion there are not cheap at all. Nor are massages. One 55 minutes massage is $85. Most islands have massages cheaper than that. I can get a hour massage at a really nice spa less that a mile from my house for $45. I am really unsure how much we will be doing. I had wanted to do a couples massage but not at cruise ship prices. Of course we might get there and are bored out of our minds and spend a lot of money but I am thinking $170 for 55 minutes is not a good value. Heck we will still be bored afterwards. lol Ok I am rambling.....now if it is raining I am sure the $180 will be spent quickly. If you pay for a massage it gives you access to the spa which includes indoor hottubs and pool. However, since paying for the super inclusive we are suppose to get access free.
I am pretty sure I am going to buy a new hair dryer. I love mine but it is very heavy. I found an Icon travel size at
Walmart. I think I will pick it up in the next couple of weeks and give it a try prior to going on the vacation.
