Heidi, the school supply list looks pretty normal. Rachel's doesn't have the copy paper on it and it doesn't specify an amount for loose leaf paper. She has to have a calculator with trig functions on it for algebra also. I think we have everything except all of the ziploc bags, kleenex and papertowels that we have to provide. We don't have to provide the lock either, it is built in to the locker. We are heading to Target today because one of her friends said that they have locker kits there.

Marci, flash drives are pretty common now. Jacob has to have one for 5th grade too. We don't have the block scheduling here. The kids aren't allowed to carry backpacks to classes. They can go to their lockers before and after lunch and before and after school. They can use a sling bag to carry books to their classes.

Marcie - we had block schedules in high school, I LOVED it!!!!! Ours were cardinal days and navy days.

Cristi - Guess we will be heading to Target for the locker kit, thanks for the heads up.

Sandy we are spending the kids inheritance now. :lmao: They need to be self reliant anyway, right? Even Bill Gates is not leaving his money to his kids. :cool1: Wish he would leave it to me. Seriously, I will be in debt for the rest of my life. I am not going to live forever, and one day I can sale my house and move in with the kids, if it comes to that!:rotfl:

Love it, love it, love it!! :cool1: :thumbsup2

Okay, so we volunteered to buy the girls school supplies this year and Chris will take them on Friday. I just looked up their school supply list and almost passed out. Granted, I have never bought or paid attention to school supply lists but this seems to be a lot. What do you guys think? (keep in mind this will be times two!!!)

2 Flat erasers
3 Packs of dividers

Wow, that just sounds extreme. I mean come on.....5 three ring binders????

Dang, Selena, you made me tear up just reading your post. I have a feeling next Tuesday will be emotional. .

Cristi, I cried every step of the way with the girls. I was an emotional wreck every fall when they went back to school. Guess that is part of being a mom.

Heidi it does look normal but was it differently from their teacher? If not then you may be buying stuff that they will not use. If you just got it as a general list I will promise you there will be things that will never be used. I have learned to buy a few things and go from there. Let them go the first day with pen, pencil, paper, rule (normaly 10 cents) and maybe a few cheap composition books.

I learned 2 years ago with MacKenzie that she would not use half of the stuff I bought. I am being more careful now that Erik is in that grade. I am waiting on several things that I remember Mac did not use. I probably still have that stuff in the cabinet too. lol

Check with the girls mom, they might have some of that stuff already. You might want to have a conversation with her as well to see what she would think if you only bought about half of that and use a lets see attitude for the rest.

They will probably use the binders, ruled paper, pens, pencils, ruler, composition bookds, dividers, and a few other things. I might would even call the school and question why they need a flash drive and the 3 packs of copy paper.

Also remember this is for the entire year. I would let them share the pack of red, blue and black pens and the pencils.

Heidi, the list looks normal to me. Fun fun

I got my hair done last night, it looks great. I ended up meeting my friend for a drink and dinner afterwards and stayed out until 2. We met some Entergy folks that were down here from Arkansas helping get the power back on. It was a lot of fun. I'll be hurting today though.

I bought all kinds of sample size toiletries last night, I am so ready to pack now.

You need to start visiting the freebie thread on the budget board and go to Walmart freebies. I do this and get a lot of travel sizes of toothpaste, deodrant and shampoo for free. When they come in I just throw them in a plastic bag in my cruise closet.

Marcie - Thanks, I was just so suprised at how many packs of copy paper they need and college ruled notebook paper!!!

Heidi I go to Office Depot when they have the ruled paper for 10cent a pack. I have never had to buy copy paper for my children. The schools here provide that. I really question that. Schools are to provide so much stuff. You know you do pay taxes for them to go to school. If you have a office depot they have some of that stuff from one cent to $1.

Dang, Selena, you made me tear up just reading your post. I have a feeling next Tuesday will be emotional. Rachel seems to have a pretty good group of friends. She was telling me about the solemn vow that some of them took to stay friends in Middle School. She has one friend that seems to be wanting to grow up a little too fast though. Rachel seems to be distancing herself from that girl on her own though. She doesn't like the way she has been acting lately.

This is wonderful. MacKenzie had a wonderful 6th grade until the end of school. The last month was emotional and very hard. She had a really huge falling out with 2 firends. It was so nasty. Even the teacher was upset and told me she was requesting for Mac not to be in that girls class again.

Rachel seems like one smart girl. You are lucky. I am sure she will have an amazing 6th grade year. Now you will be the one who has the emotional roller coaster, atleast next week. Remember you will be in my thoughts and prayers next week.

Alex's list specifies Xerox brand paper, which seems pretty silly. Also, there is one calculator for 6th & 7th graders, which runs about $10-15, and another for 8th graders that runs about $95. We found him a locker kit at Target. Luckily, since Tammy went to Newton, she knows what size the lockers are so she knew the stuff would fit.

Marci, flash drives are pretty common now. Jacob has to have one for 5th grade too.
You have to think that with so much more work being done on computers now, they have to be able to transport their work. The prices have come down so much on those just in the past year or so. Even $10 for a 1GB flash drive is getting to be at the higher end of the price ranges.

Wow, that just sounds extreme. I mean come on.....5 three ring binders????
But they are only 1" binders so, instead of having two 3" binders and squeezing all of their subjects in there, they have several smaller ones so, if they don't need to bring a couple of subjects home, they don't have to.

Of all the posts I just read, Marcie's was the saddest. Hugs to you.

I think the copy paper is extreme. I bet it is for the teachers to make the homework and test papers with. Just my thought. I was talking to Heidi and you know the kids won't be hauling all that stuff with them the first day. I agree with Selena!

I am sure the copy paper is for the teachers. When we went to DPS we had to provide paper, but for Jeffco we don't have to.

Jrsy, the kids lists have almost always had certain brands recommended, but I have never followed that except for these special markers they use in art in elementary school.

Heidi, we just got back from Target and the locker kits were either 12 or 13 dollars and it had a shelf, magnets, a magnet white board, mirror, and pencil type holder. They also had lots of things you could buy individually, but they seemed to run anywhere from $3-$5 a piece. We ended up getting the kit and then Rachel wanted a clock for her locker too.

I am exhausted now. We just got home and have been gone since about 10:45. Rachel had physical therapy at 11 and we didn't get done there until about 12. Then we went to Sears looking for some jeans for Jacob. From there we went to Aeropostle, food court, famous footwear, payless, Target and the library. Rachel wants me to watch a movie with her now, so I can relax.

The wallet isn't so bad. They didn't have any jeans to fit Jacob at Sears so we left there with only a shirt. Then at Aeropostle (we rarely shop there and ONLY sales or clearance) they had a bunch of things 50% off and all jeans were $20 off so I got her jeans for $20 each. Target was mostly just to get the locker stuff and then I picked up the rest of the school supplies, a pair of shoes for Rachel and a pair of pants for Brad. And as we were walking out we went by the $9 movies and picked up two of those. :)

I agree Cristi you exhausted me. You are starting to run around like I do.

Once school starts back I will be limited to how much I post again. No more of this:surfweb:

My children have never used a lock on their locker. Matter of a fact Mac does not even use a locker this year. She said she never used it last year and if people find out you do not use your locker they sometimes hide their drugs in your unused locker then when the drug dogs come you are the one in trouble. I told her that was smart. They have a block schedule called a 4 by 4. So she only has 4 books and normally they have to keep the books in the classroom anyway unless they have homework. I guess I am lucky.

For Mac we will not know what she will need until school starts. I figure it will be a lot of the same as last year.

Erik's list looks similar to the one that Heidi posted. Minus the flash drive and the copy paper. Plus they do not have the high amount of items that are being required. I did go thru his list last week and over all we have everything he needs. I did pick up some new colored pencils. They use them a lot for project and do not take them to school. I am going to pick up more ruled paper. I am down to 4 packs. I always keep like 15 packs in my cabinet. I have a bin for pencils, pens and erasers. This way they can go to the respective bin and get what they need when they need it. I also keep glue, crayons, markers and colored pencils in one bin together. I have an antique piesafe that we use for those type of supplies. A lot time a go I bought a huge amount of the paper colored folders. I think I still have 10-15 of them. Some of them have the metal things and others are just a folder. One year I bought a pack of 10 one subject compositions books and we still have 3 of them.

I just copied the list that Erik needs to show you guys the difference

8th Grade
Notebooks and Binders Paper Blue, Black, and Red Pens Colored Pencils Pencils - Mechanical Preferred Glue Sticks Small Scissors Hole-Punch Ruler Spiral Note Cards Graph Paper Kleenex

I have all of that except the hole punch ruler, spiral note cards, graph paper and kleenex.

Mac nevered used the spiral note cards or the graph paper so I probably have that in the cabinet if Erik needs them. As far as the Hole punch ruler, Mac has one of them too. She never used it once. On the website it states a general list. A lot times the teachers actually require different items.

As far as shopping for clothes, we had tax free holiday last weekend. I bought Erik shoes and 2 pairs of jeans. Prior to going to the beach I had bought him 2 pairs of shorts. My mom bought him 3 new shirts last week. Mac chose not to go shopping. But my mom had bought her 3 new tops and a pair of jeans 2 weeks ago and I had bought her a pair of American Eagle jeans at a consignment store the same week. Last week my mom bought her a few more tops. I asked if she needed shoes and she never said anything. I hope she has some tennis shoes that fit. I am done.

Wow Cristi, you had a busy day!!!! I should have given you my list so you could pick up my items too. ;)

Selena - Mac chose not to go shopping???? I would have never done that! You are so prepared, I hope when I buy a bigger house I can stack up like you did. My mom use to stack up stuff for us too. So Chris called the girls mom, and she said they need all those amounts...so off to the store they go today and pick up 20 packs of college ruled paper, 6 packs of copy paper, etc.

HAPPY FRIDAY!

Has anyone heard of Velcro rollers? My hair stylist told me the chi is messing up my hair now and she suggest I try these rollers instead. So, I bought some I tried them last night. They were very fast to use and I was satisfied with the way they turned out. I am bringing them to my hair stylist today and she is going to make sure I use them good enough for vegas. It will be so nice for my hair to have a break from the heat of the chi.
Today I get my eyebrows waxed and then this weekend I will get my pedicure. I am ready to start packing.
