I couldn't go to the Rockies game last night and I am at home sick again today. Looks like I won't get to go to the campground today either. If I am feeling better tomorrow I am going to try and go. I leave for Salt Lake City on Monday so I hope it is gone by the weekend. I think my fever finally broke, I am not sweating or have the chills anymore....just a few symptoms left!!

I was thinking about you VanHorn gals as I passed through Monument on Wednesday on my way back from a meeting in Pueblo. I'm sure you didn't realize just by looking at it, but I was involved in the construction of that bridge that carries SH 105 over I-25.

I need help. We have a personal friend that is retiring from the Lakewood Police Dept next week. She was the Chief of Investigations. Do you have any ideas for a retirement gift? It is a last minute decision for her. She just had knee surgery and isn't doing very well so she decided to retire. She is our age. I think a gift would be nice besides a retirement card. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Sandy, I am horrible at figuring these things out..... Can you make up a gift basket of a few of her favorite things -- a few snacks? drinks? book? dvd?

Heidi I sure hope you are all better by the time you leave Monday!!!!

Aerial is going to her Dad's for 10 days today. My friends have picked out my outfit and we are supposed to go out. I'm not sure how it's all going to work though, one person still needs a babysitter. If we do end up going this will be my first big night out. Oh and I brought the papers to the lawyer today, I'm supposed to get that money next week and then I file. Only 60 days after that....

I don't know Sandy about a gift. I would be stumped too.

Heidi, glad you're feeling better!

Sandy, how about a basket of wine, cheese and crackers? or maybe a spa gift basket? or a cookie bouquet? Or a nice pair of slippers and a book and some gourmet tea bags? I think it depends on her personality.

I emailed all of you - didn't want to post.

Today's my friend's wedding so I don't know when Ill be on next.

Have a nice weekend!

Hello all. Still feeling crappy and now fighting a migraine. I am sure it is because I am dehydrated. It is a beautiful day, I finally crawled out of bed at 1:00 to do laundry for Salt Lake. I was sitting outside on the porch but then it got to warm and I felt dizzy so I came inside to see how everyone here was.

LuLu - Big hugs to you.

Marcie - you sound wonderful. I hope you have a great night out.

Jrsy - that is a nice overpass!! Wow, who knew you helped with that!! Now everytime I see it I can tell my sister that we know someone who helped with that!!! Did you have to drive down there a lot?

Oh, I hope you are better soon! Nothing worse then having to travel when you feel bad and have a migraine!

Have you been to SLC before? I know there is a good microbrewery (or at least there was when I was there the last time! LOL!) near downtown.
I love how easy it is to get around the main city!

I may have been there when I was a kid, but I don't remember going there so this will be a new place for me. My coworker did say they have a microbrewery there so I am sure we will check it out after work. We are staying at the Courtyard Marriott Downtown so maybe it will be close!!!

SLC is BEAUTIFUL!!! I wouldn't want to live there BUT, to visit is wonderful! We also did a tour of a silver mine that was fun -- not that youhave time to go to silver mines or to go rock hunting (another activity that we did.....) ;)

:grouphug: Hugs to you Lulu
Heidi, I hope you are feeling better! It is awful to travel when you don't feel well. How long are you supposed to be gone for?

Well, this week they fired my immediate manager. Some of us knew that it was coming and it has been very tense around there until they actually did it. The office manager had asked me if I could be a witness when she did it. I initially said that I would if I had to, but then later told her that I really didn't feel comfortable doing that. She had someone that doesn't work in the lab be her witness and then escort her out with her things. I was worried that it could be bad, but she left quietly.

Another lady and myself are going to co-manage until we find a new manager (I don't want to be the manager permanently). One of my best friends used to be the manager there and it sounds like she might be interested in returning. That would be really good.

So, I have been a little less stressed out the last couple of days. Is it terrible that I have had the song from the Wizard of Oz, "Ding Dong the Witch is Dead" going through my head for the last 4 days. :confused3 ;)

When I was at my last job, I ended up being responsible for construction support and some redesign on that bridge. It had been designed and redesigned and who knows what else by who knows how many other engineers prior to my arrival. It was not a fun project to work on, but it turned out pretty nicely. I never did get down there during the project; my supervisor always ended up doing that if it was required.

Is that Red Rock or something like that? I think that was the place I visited when I was working out there on the I-15 reconstruct before the Olympics. At that time there was also a microbrewery in the airport, so we always slipped out a bit early for our flights home so we could stop for at least one.

I am alive!!! I am feeling 100% better and I actually got up this morning to rollerblade around Clement Park and Johnson Lake. It felt so good to actually stand up on my own!!! And I even got to drink water!!!

Cristi - glad they finally fired her, how uncomfortable for you....but if your best friend is the replacement I bet it was well worth it. I loved working with my 2 best friends...we did it for several years and had a blast.

Stephanie - I wish I could go to to the silver mines, that sounds like a blast to me but I don't think anyone else would go with me.

Jrsy - sounds like a pain in the butt bridge. I bet you were glad to get that finished. Next time you pass through Monument you should stop by and say hi if we are at the campground!!

Jrsy -- I believe it is Red Rock or something like it....

Y'all are going to get to hear (?) me yak about...nothing! LOL! I got my haircut today and LOVE it!

VBS starts tomorrow and for some strange reason a few months ago it sounded like a good idea to volunteer to lead crafts.... :confused3 :confused3 I so wish I could be the type of mom that dropped off her kids and went home by herself for a few hours... I am insane! :rotfl: :rotfl:

I was reading the CB yesterday and realized that I knew one of the posters!!!! She's an online friend that I first met about 13 yrs ago!!!!!! On an AOL board (some of us formed an email group for years afterwards!) it was a SAHM (Stay At Home Mom) board. I actually have met several of them IRL -- one of the ladies flew into DFW and her and I drove down to Austin to met up with 3 other women. :rotfl:

Isn't that cool????

Stephanie - that is cool, small world!!

Just logging on to say goodbye. I am heading off to the airport in a few minutes. I hope everyone has a great week.

I don't get down there all that much, so it wouldn't be likely that you'd be around. We were just passing through on Wednesday last week on our way to and from a meeting in Pueblo.

Well Jrsy. You did it. :thumbsup2 You managed to keep me thinking of you all weekend. Was on that bridge a lot and everytime we were on it, I thought of you.

 Lulu, major hugs. I think you need to come out here. There would be several people here just waiting to give you a hug. I loved all your ideas for my friend. Thank you sooooo much.

Steph, craft and me. Nah. Definitely a small world!

Crisit, wuz up? Ding, dong, the witch is dead. :lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl:

Heidi is in Salt Lake City now. They were thinking about going shopping. Tough job, huh?

That is so cool that you met up with an old friend on the DIS! It is so funny because I just got an email from someone I met 13 years ago as well - my former high school teacher! She is a children's/young adult author now and we've kept in touch on and off since she left teaching!

Tell me about your hair cut! I am so glad you love it. Mine's still short but I waver about growing it out - just because I always imagined it in an updo for my wedding and I hope to get married oh, in the next 5 years. ;)

Enjoy crafts! I love the little ones. Although I teach HS, I am hoping to move younger.
