Cramming into one room AND cheaper rate...

So, I had a little saga today regarding our room reservation at Royal Pacific.

The plan is, my husband, me, my mother-in-law, my father-in-law, my sister-in-law, and my son (21 months) will all be sleeping in one room. Technically, you're only supposed to have 5 people in a room, and this is 6.

Hubby, me, and baby always sleep in bed together at hotels anyway, so we're cool. Sis-in-law will be on rollaway... or that was the plan, anyway.

I called today to reserve the rollaway to be added to our existing reservation. The lady gladly added it, let me know that it'd be $25/night, and I volunteered to her (stupidly) that there will be 5 adults in the room. She was like "okay, that's fine, well your new nightly rate is $294, instead of $269." I felt stupid for mentioning it, but oh well. I said okay, and conversation over.

So, now we're spending $100 more for all this, $25/night for rollway, $25/night for extra person.

And I remember from before when we stayed there that it isn't very easy to "hide" a person from the front desk (like we normally do at hotels when we tell them only 2 people are staying, and it's like 4 people). It's not easy, because they want to make sure everybody gets their EZ pass keycard, which is one of the major reasons for staying on-site in the first place. I also remembered, however, that they insisted on giving us a room key/EZ pass for my son, who at the time was like 15 months old. We thought that was weird, but took it anyway, and actually gave it to our friend to use, who lives in Orlando but didn't have an EZ pass to ride with us.

So, I went back to the website to see if I could book a whole new reservation, and how much it might cost. I put "4 adults, 1 child" on the reservation, because it would be easier to "hide" one of the adults from check-in, and that person could use my son's EZ pass keycard for rides. So, I put that in, and lo and behold, a brand new rate came up, and I got the room for $229/night instead of the original $269/night :thumbsup2 , not to mention the updated $294/night + $25/night for rollaway!

So, I got that reservation. I'll cancel my old one. We'll "hide" my husband's dad from the front desk people, and he can use the baby's EZ pass on rides. We're also taking a single sized aerobed with us to accomodate sis-in-law, and will thus be avoiding the rollaway.

:sad2:

You do know that your son's room key/Express Pass will state "Child" on it, don't you?

It may be a bit difficult to explain why your father-in-law is using a hotel key that says Child on it.

And if you plan on taking your son on any ride and want to use the express line, he will have to have his own hotel key.

Lucky for you, you are going during a very busy time, so you may just luck out and the ride ops won't notice the CHILD imprinted on the keycard.

Yup, it said "child" on it last time, and my 25 year old friend had no trouble using it the whole time. And also last time, they never asked to see the baby's express pass. They rarely asked to see more than one person in the group's pass, so I think we'll be fine there.

And you are so proud of this, you are happily posting to this board? :confused3

Have a great vacation :goodvibes

Did they use the scanners for your express pass/room key last time? Our recent experiences have the express pass line attendant scanning every card. This might pose some problems.

This must be a wind up. Nobody would be so blatant as to do this! :sad2:

Not going to get into the first post, even though it's not nearly as big of a difference as the OP is making it out to be. If you bring the aerobed anyways, you DO NOT have to pay the $25 for the rollaway. You can rebook at the cheaper rate, and the only disparity is paying the $25 for the 5th adult (which would end up being cheaper than you were originally planning on paying) and just not have a card for the baby. I won't comment on the morality of doing this; just that it's easier than not having a card for the baby and a child card for an adult, etc.

But my question is, when I booked, I booked 2 adults and 3 children on the AAA website. I'm wondering now if that's what I was supposed to do (thinking of the Disney definition of a "child"). My kids will be 12-15 when we go. Was I supposed to book as 5 adults since they're all over 9 or is that just a park ticket (which we bought separately) age definition? Thanks for any help! Just want to make sure I won't be hit with a different price when I get there!

We have teens and Loews told us that the child limit is under 18. So you should be fine.

Loews doesnt consider children adults. You are fine they can stay in your room as children until they are 17. (18?) :)

We are going over Spring Break and our 17 yr old daughter has decided to join us this time. So instead of using the roll out we are bringing our 5 yr old a blow up slumber bed for her to sleep on. That is a great idea. I will agree with you. When we went on rides with our FOTL pass they scanned our passes and it didn't matter who had what. Many rides my youngest wouldn't ride and I just used her pass...they never said a word.

When we went which was a slower time, our cards were only scanned at MIB. Once they did scan at Cat in the Hat ride but every other ride usually just looked at them fairly quickly.

Yeah, I got the idea for a blowup bed instead of a rollaway from a trip report on here. It's a good idea.

And with the express passes, we can't ever ride a ride all together anyway. We have to do the baby swap with the baby... so, if it were an issue (which it never has been), the person carrying the "child" FOTL pass could switch with whomever is watching the baby in baby swap. It really isn't such a big deal as some would make it out to be.

I removed the pictures I had in my siggy though, even though it was too late as they'd already been seen by Goofy. Very creepy to know someone who thinks you could possibly ruin FOTL at Universal for everyone with one insignificant little blip will be watching you anywhere you go.

Wow, I did think that posts that blatantly say how to beat the system were prohibited. Is this not the case? :confused3

LauraWV, you posted a picture of yourselves on an Internet board in a post that contained express information on how you were planning to work around the rules in more ways than one. Even the Universal & Loews people read this board occasionally. Did you not think of the possible repercussions of that? I am not being sarcastic, so please don't read it that way.

Exactly!

Perhaps I did not word it the best way, but...

You post pictures of yourself.
You post your dates and your resort.
You even post the rates you had, the new rate you got and the date you changed.
Pretty easy for a Loews person to figure out who you are.

Then...you post how you want to scam the system.

My goodness, there are people on the DIS that get their panties in a twist about siggies too long (recent thread on CB), pool hopping or reusing mugs in WDW. People's knickers get even more twisted when you suggest you are outright trying to go around the system.

And as AlexandNessa said, the Loews & Universal Brass read these boards.

But have a good vacation.

Yes, and it also makes it easy for a creepy poster who will be there while I'm there, and who already has a strong distaste for me, to be watching me anywhere I happen to be. Believe me, I regret posting the stuff now that you've pointed that out.

AlexandNessa - I'm sorry. I didn't know that this was prohibited. I was just being honest about what I'll be doing, and I understand now that that kind of behavior isn't fostered here. I get it.

I'd be happy if the mods would lock or remove the thread altogether, since this subject is prohibited anyway. Either way, I'll not post to it anymore, so hopefully it'll die out and nobody will be further enlightened on how to accomplish cheats.

LOL! I hope you are joking! Somehow, I just dont see the disboard police hunting you down while they are on vacation!

CHEATS being the key word here Laura!

Being honest about cheating doesn't make it any better.

There are also many Universal employees who post on this board and although I doubt any of them will report you, I am sure it makes things uncomfortable for them.

Room occupancy rules are there for insurance reasons for safety purposes. Ignoring those rules and bragging about it isn't really cheating the hotel but encouraging people to ignore the safety restrictions. If these practices appear to be commonplace, I would imagine that there will be much stricter rules put in place affecting us all.

The Front of the Line passes all have name and "adult" or "child'" on them. Sounds like you need two rooms........might work out cheaper too since no rollaway charge..
