Craigslist or Garage Sale?

I just posted some things on Craigslist for the first time when we cleaned out our garage. GOOD things like pedal cars, Power Wheels Jeep, Radio Flyer wagon, bike, etc. Well, no one has even responded. I put these items in "Toys" (not the bike, I put that in bikes). In your experience, would I do better having a garage sale to get rid of these things? It kills me because I just donated oodles of things I could have used in a garage sale but swore I wasn't going to do one this summer because we usually only make a little over $100, lol. ??

Historically, I have had better luck selling things on Craigslist than at a garage sale. I did sell a lot of items at the garage sale, but pretty much gave items away. You may want to consider reposting your items in the kids/baby sections of CL as they may get more views.

And it may take a bit of time. In the fall, people will start looking for christmas items. Might was to relist again then if you haven't had any bites.

Did you post each item individually with photos in its own listing?

Make sure you have a specific title, an enthusiastic yet accurate description and good photos. Make sure your price is fair and not too high.

If still no interest, I would def. repost under kids/babies. I think you can repost every 48 hrs. Say a week or so later, if still no interest then try lowering the price. Be sure you keep reposting every 48 hrs to keep your post near the top.

For big items like that, I still think craigslist is the way to go.

Good luck!

ETA: in rereading your list of items, I would def say kids/babies. I think of toys more as barbies, hot wheels, etc...actual toys.

Do a search on CL for what you're selling to see what others are asking. I bought a Power Wheels jeep last year off CL for $60, some were $75 or $80. Definitely add pictures and lots of details. You will need to relist when your item isn't showing on the first or second page as well.

Okay, will try that. Thanks! And I didn't know we could keep reposting so good idea.

Make sure you have good pictures. I know a lot of people who do not even look unless they have pictures.

As much as I hate garage sales, they do much better in my area than craigslist.

I think our craigslist area has gotten so full of spam advertising and people posting just to get your email address, that a lot of people have stopped looking on there. :confused3 I know that the last few times I have tried to answer and ad, I didn't get a reply, but I did end up with a lot of new email spam.

Neither. I use facebook swap groups. :) Check your area and see if there is one.

Keep trying on Craigslist! New buyers come all the time. I renew my listings about every four days or so. It's been a long time on some items, but every week I seem to sell at least one thing. I started off with about 40-50 things and I have sold sixteen items in about 7-8 weeks.

I'm having a garage sale too, because I doubt some of my items will sell on Craigslist (but it's always worth a try since I have so much other stuff listed on there) and I have lots of little stuff too!

Good luck and I hope you sell everything!

This! I love my FB Yard Sale groups (I am members of two counties); I picked up a $150 jogging stroller today for $45 and 48 diecast Cars cars for $25 :thumbsup2

Definitely the way to go vs craigslist or typical garage sales, IMO

How do you go about looking for something like this? How would I search to find if there is one in my area?

Do you have facebook? If so, post pics of the items on your facebook. Some of your FB friends may be interested. Also, search for something like a trading post in your county/town. If there is one, join & post pics. If there isn't one, you may consider starting one. Post pics, then invite all your friends. They will then invite their friends, etc.

Oh, people already mentioned these. :lmao:
Try searching, "xcountyhere Yard Sale", "xcountyhere Trading Post", or "xcountyhere Buy/Sell/Trade"

:cool1:

Will search those names. Thanks! This posting on Craigslist has me going out to look at a rabbit hutch today, lol. I better stay off these sites! :lmao:

I thought they were priced too high, but my DH thought we should start at that since people always offer way lower. I'll lower each a bit and probably just keep going as the days go on. Thanks for your post! I can use it as proof for my DH. :)
