Just a quick question that I was hoping that you former/current CP's and CM's can help out with.

When it comes to our lunch/dinner breaks, the website says that there are employee cafeterias with reasonable rates. Is this something that we can fit into our budget or do we need to plan on packing a lunch most days? Also, what kinds of food to they serve? AND what are these "reasonable prices?"

With select exceptions, Cast Commissaries at both the Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort are run by outside vendors - Sodexo in the case of the Disneyland Resort and Aramark at the Walt Disney World Resort.

Cast Commissaries offer a wide range of options, including salads, sandwiches, pizza, grilled foods and the like. Prices are generally on par with outside takeaway restaurants, approximately ~$6-$8 per meal, with occasional specials.

It would generally be cheaper to carry your own meal, but you do have the option to purchase food if you wish to.

From when I was working there with most people it just depended on how tired you were, whether or not you even wanted to prepare your own food and how long your break was. Sometimes a 15 in the break room is barely enough to eat the sandwich you brought with you. Or sometimes you have that golden hour and even though you brought lunch you decide to check out the commissary regardless. Each park has a different cast cafeteria type thing. The prices are pretty reasonable. You'll usually end up doing a mix of bringing, buying and getting from the vending machines.

Most of the time, I pack my own lunch. It's just so much easier.

We got a half hour for lunch, and 15 min breaks too. The cafeterias are pretty decent, but it all depends where your location is. Mine wasn't so far, but by the time I walked there, ordered my food, and paid for it, I had only 15ish minutes to eat and then walk back.

It was just alot better (plus alot cheaper) to pack my lunch, and just spend my lunch break in my breakroom relaxing. Every once in a while, I either ran out of food/didnt go food shopping or forgot my lunch, so I had to go.

It depends a lot of where you end up working! If you are in a place like say, Magic Kingdom, you'll have a Subway down in the tunnels. But if you end up in Port Orleans Resort, you technically don't have any Aramark location close to work unless you are Custodial or Housekeeping (Aramark location is over at Cast Services, which is far from Front Desk, Merchandise or F&B cast members, which is a problem if you don't have a car). And also, some of the Aramark locations close early or have a very limited menu (which can get tiresome after 3 months into the program).

Prices are not that bad, compared to what guests pay, but as a CP you are going to want to save as much money as possible so pack your lunch once in a while.

if you are working at DAK you can go to Castosaurus, which serves daily specials for less than $3. it is in the backstage area near the main entrance break area and dinoland, usa.

the food is the same as in the parks (but no fries) so it is things like chicken sandwiches, pizza, hot dogs, and the best chocolate chip cookies on property. one of the cons is that it closes about an hour and a half before the park itself closes, so that can suck if you are a CP and usually have closing shifts. you also have to be in costume to order/pay food. hope this helps!!:goodvibes

For the first couple months of my program I almost never was scheduled more than 6 hours 45 minutes (just under a lunch), so I'd have 2 15 minute breaks which was hardly enough time to heat up a frozen dinner and eat it, let alone go anywhere.

However, if I had an 8 hour shift (8:45 scheduled), I would have enough time on my 45 (I was MEO, an 8 hour day we had two 15s and a 45)
