Covid-safe OUTDOOR only plan?

Given the current strain of covid on the rise and the lack of masks at UO indoors, we are wondering if it's possible to do enough things outdoors only to make it worth visiting. We're getting preferred annual passes, so it's okay if we are only in the parks some early hours or part of a day...but what all can we definitely do outdoors only that will fill "safe" to us. We don't want to be indoors with unmasked people at this time, but we really want to meet up with teenage cousins at the parks.

Forgot to mention food...are there restaurants that are outdoor only?
I totally understand your concerns. You are not paranoid you are a citizen who cares. I have plans to go on January 5th. Not sure yet if we will cancel. Currently my plan is to do most everything outdoors. I'm even thinking of reserving a private VIP tour to cut the time indoors. To respond directly to your question about food, it is absolutely possible to have all meals outdoors or in your hotel room. Here is a list of some restaurants that provide outdoor seating: Fire Eater's Grill, Bumblebee Man's Tacos, all restaurants in Springfield, 3Broomsticks, and many other QS restaurants. For City Walk, Bob Marley's is very underrated and provides a fantastic outdoor meal. Also, meals by the pool at your hotel can be a lot of fun. Hope you get to go and have a safe trip if you do.

I have stickies set up to guide all posters of current Disboard policy

Please read the sticky of
“Policy of Covid related discussions”

As long as we all stay on track, this thread will stay open.

Mom has now spoken and addressed this issue again, so there is no excuse if you do not follow the rules

Hopefully you enjoy yourself although going to a crowded theme park isn’t ideal for someone concerned about Covid.

If you wish to post about cruise ships, Universal does not have them.

cruises are in another section in the Disboards

I do not have the time to move those posts so I just deleted them from the UO boards.

You are correct
Forget about that they are trying to entice many and get those packages booked

You would need to create a new thread about that.
It needs to be separate from this present thread

We postponed our trip that was supposed to be happening now. I sat the kids down and told them the way things look if we go we have to be comfortable with the fact that it is likely we will get COVID. (Yes, we are all vaxxed and eligible members of family are boosted but I don’t think it matters much with Omicron). No one was enthused by that prospect so we postponed.

We were supposed to be there now too. I canceled everything and now we're looking at April. Even if I could have gotten boosted and gotten my kids their second vax in time, with the crowd reports I'm seeing over at WDW, I wouldn't feel great about being in Orlando right now, and I was just there at the beginning of the month. I'm not saying the Spring break crowds for our rescheduled trip will be any better, but we'll be 3x vaxxed for adults and 2x vaxxed for kids by then, and that will be good enough for me.

OP, if you really want to go to a theme park right now that is outdoors/masked indoors, Animal Kingdom over at WDW might be your best bet. That's what we did on Dec 5. It wasn't risk-free because nothing is, but it felt reasonable for us because we only ate outdoors and masks were being enforced in shops and in queues. We used Genie+ to get quickly through indoor lines/rides and spent a lot of time walking the animal trails. There are only 5 rides in that whole park online right now, so definitely not as exciting a day as teens might have at UO/IOA, but we made the best of it and the kids had a great time.

Not that its much higher, but there are 7 rides open at AK right now. 8 if you count the train. That is at least until Everest goes down in a couple weeks.

Right now everything is starting to get cancelled today, BCS Cap One Beach Bash concert, AFI Movie Awards Ceremony, Palm Spring Film Festival. These are outdoor and indoor events. I think at this point unless you are vaccinated and boostered probably better off just to stay in your hotel. I have a trip coming up at the beginning of January but may cancel or just stay and enjoy the hotel.
