I haven't done an NL update in a while.
Where are we? Besides 7 meters below sea level
In comparison to last week, infections went down 3%, deaths 12%, hospitalizations 14%, and 12% of the people getting tested, test positive in comparison to 13,8% last week. Going in the right direction, but nowhere near good. Also people partying going down (based on police reports). R figure and daily infections are going up and down like a yo-yo
- Maybe the Christmas school holiday gets extended.
- The Dutch national airline says it's too early to talk about only transporting people who are vaccinated, like Qantas released yesterday.
- Setting off fireworks is illegal this year (except some light stuff), and therefore no one is selling. People now go to Belgium & Germany to get their fireworks. So they are now looking into to make it illegal to import fireworks.
- Carbid shooting (practiced mainly in the East of NL) is not getting prohibited on a national level, but probably on regional level. Which makes sense, cause in the rest of NL, they don't or hardly do this.
- Strangely enough we don't have any clear predictions when exactly we will start with vaccinations, while surrounding countries do say late December/(Early) January, we are still at quarter 1 2021.
Oh, not NL, but Belgium is finally doing better (and better than NL) , so yay Belgium

Thanks Karin. Are you able to provide actual numbers? Here in Alberta we are freaking out at how many new cases are being diagnosed - as of yesterday our positivity rate is 8%, around 1,500 cases out of about 17,000 tests conducted over the weekend. There are more than 300 people in hospital which is more than double the worst point this spring.
If it's a reference to the number of ethnic people that live there, well...maybe you haven't travelled around Canada enough. Come visit Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Saskatoon, Montreal, Halifax - all with very vibrant, multi-cultural populations. And more and more now, newcomers to Canada are choosing to settle in smaller and more remote places away from the major cities. They, as much as anyone, are in fact what make Canada the country we're all so proud of.
