What kinds of drinks do they serve in Cove Cafe? Is it just coffee drinks? Smoothies? About how much were the drinks?

Thanks!

This turned out to be one of DH's and mine favorite spots on the ship! The server who works there most of the time is Lourdes, and she is wonderful. The first day we walked in there I wasn't feeling very well and I asked her for something without alcohol or caffeine, and it had to be cold. She made us up her own version of a coffee smoothie with a shot of caramel flavoring. Some days we'd have it frozen, like a smoothie, some days we'd have it just on ice. She always made them look very pretty, with dark or white chocolate "straws" and other garnishes, and she'd serve it on a big square plate with a gourmet cookie on the side. (The cookies are complimentary to anyone, you can just walk into Cove Cafe and help yourself). On the actual menu there were all kinds of traditional coffee drinks such as espresso, capuccino, latte's, and also martinis, wines, coffee drinks with liquers added, etc. Lourdes really is a wonderful "bar tender" and will try to make anything you ask her to. Someone we knew from the internet always was drinking a very odd drink that was clear with a ton of mint leaves in it! LOL (I forget the ingredients). Our coffee drinks were about $2.50 each. From what I remember from the menu, the other coffee drinks were about the same cost, some a little more, according to what was in it. We always gave Lourdes a good tip on top of the 15% because we felt she deserved it. I've never seen one person do so many things at the same time, AND maintain a wonderfully cheerful disposition :)

The Cove Cafe has a large screen tv, reading materials, soft upholstered couches and 2 small tables with *very* comfortable upholstered chairs, as well as bar stools at the bar. In the far corner is one of the internet areas with about 4-5 terminals. It's adults-only so it's a great place to stop in for a cool (or hot) drink, and relax for a few minutes :)

P.S. I have pictures of the Cove Cafe on my web site under the Disney Cruise section.

When they charge it on your card, do they also add the tip or do you leave that on the table?

That sounds wonderful!

Are the cookies you mentioned the same ones you get from room service?

Shmora: They added in the 15% automatic gratuity to the bill which you have to sign for (can't use cash). We then would write in an additional tip (there's a space on the receipt to do that if you want), so the entire amount was put on our Key to the World card. I'm sure that if you wanted to use cash for the additional tip, that would be fine, but the automatic 15% tip was included on the receipt. :)

DVCajun: The Cove Cafe did have chocolate chip cookies and they may have been the same ones that you can get from room service, but I'm not positive. There was always a variety of cookies at the Cove Cafe such as chocolate chip, biscotti, almond bars with raspberry or apricot jam, and raisin oatmeal cookies. These cookies were always fresh and delicious! We always would let Lourdes surprise us with the cookies, although like I mentioned before, you could help yourself to them, too. They had a pile of napkins and tongs right next to the display trays.

SeaSpray,

I must echo your sentiments. This was one of our favorite places on board. It's close to the excitement, yet it's cool, quiet, and uncrowded. A nice place to just come in and relax. My favorite drink there was either a traditional cappucino (sp?), or the Yellow Bird - depending on whether I wanded to get mellow, or get buzzed. Anyway, I highly recoomend the Cove.

I completely agree above the "Cove" and Lourdes, she is awesome! The price, with the standard 15% is $2.88 for all of the teas, and I believe the standard (non alcohol) coffees... I usually gave her an extra $1 becasue she is, as you said, wonderful... :sunny:

Lourdes was great - she was my "bar girl" during our cruise. She was at the Goofy Pool bar when we were on board. Along with her partner in crime Joval. Made the best Coconut Javas.

Wow! this sounds like a new addition to the Cove Cafe! It was one of my favorite spots also on our cruise. We had a different "bartender" then, I believe they change often. I had Ishmael, and after a few days he'd bring "the usual" over to me while I checked things at work and home on the Internet. I also just loved getting a coffee and sitting on the deck at night. Oh, and Ishmael would put a biscotti on the dish with my coffee drinks. :)

Love the Cove Cafe!

Gosh! I've been on four cruises and never tried the Cove Cafe. Where is it? I am not a big coffee drinker, but the ambience sounds wonderful. Thanks for the description!

Lourdes is no longer in the Cove Cafe but has now rotated to Rockin' Bar D. She is indeed excellent!

A note about the 15% auto gratuity: This is in fact the base salary for many of the wait staff on the ship and should not be considered a "tip." The 15% goes into a pool and is then divided among the staff at the end of each cruise. If you receive great service and wish to tip the individual, you can write in an amount on your receipts. This amount will go to that individual and not into the pool.

What is the size of the beverages sold for $2.50 in Cove Cafe? I've heard that there are magazines and books there as well...how about board games?? I'm doing a family "newletter" about the cruise to get everyone excited and would like to highlight Cove Cafe for all those coffee drinkers...:) Is this open to anyone or just adults?

Thanks for the answers!
:p IVY :p

Cove Cafe is for those Guests 18 years or older and this guideline is well enforced. I have seen children asked to leave and I have seen the staff of the Cove ask for IDs to check ages.

The sizes of drinks vary but all (excluding espresso) are at least 12 oz.

My DH and I loved the Cove Cafe - It is also a great location to keep an eye on your teen if they are at the stack - The Stack is right above, you just go out the cove, up a flight of steps, and there you are!

I don't do coffee or any of its variants at all. Are there any other offerings up there?

It's also a bar, so you could probably have just about any beverage or liquor that they have on the ship. :)

Your pictures made my day! I showed my dh the pictures of you and your dh in the Cove Cafe, and we were drooling and making plans for caffeine laden solitude.

Thanks!

I'm guessing a Mojito? I believe it is a Cuban drink with rum and mint. I'm not sure of all the ingredients, but it sounds like that is what it was.:drinking1

Does anyone know who is in the Cove Cafe now? Miguel and Carolina were there when we cruised last year and they were fantastic. Just hoping they may have returned.
