It's unlikely they'll get caught. This has happened before. This was the first time, however, that they stamped it "opened for inspection. USPS" (on the coupon envie that they totally opened) One time, a friend who was visiting NY got home and realized they took their MetroCard with them. They couldn't use it in their home state so they mailed it to me. I never got it --- it must have felt like a gift card or credit card or something and it never made its way to my box.
The thing that gets me angry is that you can't even complain. Well, you can, but it won't do any good. They (the postal employees) stick together like glue and nothing will be done.
