Hello. My mother is sailing with us. Her and I both want a massage and DH isn't interested. I booked the 'Couples Swedish Massage' (not the couples ultimate pkg). I noticed it had the terms "romantic" :scared: Not exactly what I'm looking for with my Mother...we just wanted our massages at the same time, however the 'couples' time was the only time available...there wasn't any good individual times left.

Has anyone done the 'couples' massage with a family member? Is it weird?

Depending how close you are with your mother. My mother and I are very close so I would probably do it or you have already booked it.
My dh and I did the couples massage on the magic when we got married on the magic and honestly you are on two separate table and you can barely hold hands bc the ladies/men who is working on you has to be able to move between you.
IMHO I would do it will my mom if I already had it booked.

I have not done a couples masage on DCL. But the ones I have done with DH are like what PP said in that you have seperate tables and cannot hold hands. They really aren't romantic just relaxing. I was actually considering visiting the spa with my mother in March and like the idea of the couples massage because you can talk and don't have to wait for the other person's appointment to finish. So I say go for it! Let the spa know in advance and they can tone down any romantic music etc. if there is any.

Hubby and I have done the couples massage on both the Dream and the Wonder.
It was lovely, but only romantic if you thought of it that way.
Enya/Pure moods type music playing and all. But like PP said the tables are far apart and during the massage it's not like you are talking or holding hands or anything like that.

I've had couple's massages with my DDs and it has worked out fine! The first was when my younger DD was 16 and she felt more secure being in the same room as me. A couple's massage is sometimes offered at a lesser price than booking two individual massages.

If anything I found the couple's massage less relaxing. You can hear things like the other massage therapist talking to my husband, him moving around, etc. I was also very conscious of him there and it was harder to focus on myself.

My daughter and I have done it...ages 50 and 25.....and one time when the hubbies didn't want to do it, another female friend and I did it. Wasn't weird at all. We turned our backs to eachother as we disrobed and got onto the massage tables.

I don't think I would care who else was getting a massage in the room with me, all long as I was getting one too! :)

I don't think it's weird at all. I did a "couples" massage on a Carnival cruise with my best friend. Just turned our backs to disrobe. During the massage we chit-chatted with each other and our masseuses. It was fun!

Sorry for digging out this old thread. I am planning my next cruise. I want to treat my MiL for a massage but she is nervous about going to spa on her own. DH loves getting a massage every time we go on a cruise, and for me I'm just not into it. Anyway I am thinking to book the couple massage for MiL and DH, so MiL will have someone there with her. Will this work for a mother-son spa day?? Please give me some advise.

If they like to have a massage with little or nothing on under the covering, I would think that taking off the robes and getting on the table would be awkward in that situation. I suppose one person could turn their back while the other one got on the table. Personally it was awkward for me when my dh and I got one. Lets face it, there is just no way for me (a pooh sized person) to get on that table gracefully!

You got a point there Sue, maybe MiL won't like that either..... What to do... What to do......

Maybe you can get individual appointments at the same time so someone is at the spa with her, just not the same room?

Wow! Too late, I was up till midnight last night to book my appointments (90 days mark), now 13 hours later most of the appointment time are gone for the individual and couple massage. ( except 7pm slot.) I guess they are stuck now!! I didn't know sea day appointments are really this popular!!
