This was taken last July. The blades and vane were removed some time back.

What are these? Is it a crossing gate and sign for the FWRR??

We tried to drive onto Shades of Green last April and were turned away at the gate. We were told only those guests of SOG were allowed to drive onto the resort grounds.
I guess if you took the SOG bus from one of the parks (I heard they don't really check IDs) you could just go there.

from what i understood, dod leases the resort(buildings only and the property they reside on), the golf course is open to the public.

from disney web site:
"If driving to the Palm Golf Course, follow the signs from I-4 or route 192 to the Magic Kingdom® Park. Stay in the right lane of the Magic Kingdom Toll Plaza. Follow the signs to Disney's Polynesian Resort. The golf course is located across the street at the Shades of Green Resort. There is no charge for parking."

Things must have changed. I have driven there several times and was never stopped or checked.:confused3

I called in late 2008 and was told no entry or dining for non guests, unless you are with a registered guest.

Great stuff, love the old pix and pricing info.

This should be awarded the THREAD OF THE MONTH!!!! Great scans, Doggmeat!!!!! Like a little Fort Fiend treasure find, very cool!!!

1500-1900 are on the map. You may be looking at the canal and thinking it's the road, which I did at first too. i wondered where those loops were but then realized the road is to the left.

I see it know LOL:lmao: :lmao:
Thanks

WOW!!!! Those scans are amazing! We were just over at the Fort looking around last weekend and wondered what the tower over by the pony rides might have been before- now we know!!! :thumbsup2 Its also a jolt seeing how much the prices have changed... its like looking at those birthday cards that say how much a stamp was or a gallon of milk etc... you figure if in '81 you could camp at the Fort for like 20 bucks and now on average is about 70 depending on seasons/site levels... can you even imagine what it might be when our kids are taking their kids there in another 28 years??!?!?!?!:scared1:

I also thought it was cool that they used to let you use the polaroid cameras just for the cost of film.... it really was a different world back then...

Wow all these were really neat to look at.
And now I know how cheap it would have been to stay at FW (and pay to go into MK) when I was 12. Back then I sure wished I could go! Now I pay an arm and a leg for us to vacation at WDW... :lmao:

Thanks for sharing all these treasures Doggmeat!!!! I would love to see Shanman take thisMusket Mickey , and make it into a nice clean image.:)

I gave it a whack (as Shan would say)....

Awesome:thumbsup2 I notice no 1600 to 1900 loop or 1500. Really kool!

I'm not sure what year 1500-1900 were added, but I do remember one stay in about 1978 when they were constructing these loops. Then in Oct 1987 the clover-leaf was closed because they were upgrading the power to 30/50 amp & adding sewer.

Do you have to be military to drive thru the gate to go over and look? I may like to ride over one day. Any kind of restaurant or food court?

Pre 9/11 anyone could go into SOG to dine. After 9/11 only military personnel are allowed unless you are visiting a guest at the resort, and then they call that guest first to verify you are legit.

ETA - Last time NTSammy5 stayed at SOG (1/2008), he acquired a parking pass for me so I could park at SOG, and I still had to go thru a bunch of stuff to get in, BUT, I could park in the parking garage & not the parking lot for golfers.

Tony-

If the campfire show was in the same place then as it is now, then the FWRR would have passed by the area you are asking about. The sidewalk that used to go from the Meadow Trading Post toward the 600 loop (which has recently been removed), followed the old rail line.

But, these things look like totem poles to me.

Doggmeat said in another post that there used to be a deer in a pen in this area. Maybe these were just props for folks to look at as they rode along on the train.

Is there a single totem pole left anywhere in the Fort? I don't think there is.

You know what is weird to me about this photo? Where is the movie screen? Seems like you should be able to see it from the angle this photo was taken. Maybe the campfire stage/wagon was in a different place back then?

Also Chip and Dale look a little weird-like their heads are too big or something.

To clarify some things with SOG. Back in I believe 1993 the DOD operated SOG under a lease agreement with Disney on a trial basis. It proved to be quite lucrative, and the DOD purchased the building and went into a long term lease agreement with Disney for the property it sits on. The restaurants on property were technically for use by guests only since they did not charge tax, however enforcement has always been sporadic at best. You may park in the golf course lot if you have a tee time. If you are military and not staying at SOG, you can obtain a parking pass for the garage if you are picking up attraction tickets, using the restaurants or utilizing the PX that is on property. Military must show a valid military id for access for this purpose.

Doggmeat, is there anyway you can do a higher resolution scan of the campfire singalong picture? The suspense is KILLING me! TIA
