were booked on air Canada for our sept cruise I paid the extra fee to pick our seats

but now Id like to surprise DH and upgrade our seats

1st ? do I do this on line or call

also the extra I paid for the seats does that go towards the upgrade seats

another ? we are taking a cab from airport to hotel--do we need CAN$ or do they take US$ or charge

thanks all

You should be able to upgrade your seats online. Log in and see if you can do it.

I'm a little confused about where you're actually going. You're going TO Canada? Then you should expect to pay your taxi in Canadian dollars. A credit card might suffice.

If you have reasonably good credit, there are no-fee credit cards that do not charge a foreign transaction fee; some even have a cash-back feature. Capital One is the probably the most well known.

thanks for the replies

I will get some CAN$--approx. how much is taxi to go from the airport to the cruise port--were staying at Pan Pacific--I don't really want to have too much

we did have a CC that had no foreign fees but had a yearly fee and for the few times we go out of the country we just never applied again for it

this is strange I just did some checking around on air Canada and you can bid to upgrade your seats--but the strange thing is its more then what I was asking in the first place

unless the amount is for the 2 of us--I sent an contact us to ask about all this--I really would like to surprise DH with these seats

What do you mean "it is more than what I was asking in the first place"? You choose the amount that you want to put as a bid. And, if by "in the first place" you mean the difference in cost when you purchased your ticket, it is very likely that the business class ticket increased in price, so that value is irrelevant (what would matter is the cost of the fare now).

And the bid amount is per person.

I just re read what I posted sorry for the confusion

when I went into air Canada as if I was making a new booking when I got to the end if you want to upgrade its 194 PP

when I went under to bid on seats it starts off at 270PP

this is where I was getting confused--

it seems its cheaper just to upgrade then to bid

But is the fare you paid the same as the fare of your new booking? The $194 is the difference between whatever fare you are choosing in your new (pretend) booking and the cheapest business class fare. And, again, there is no set price for bidding - you bid whatever you want (the dial will tell you how "strong" the bid is). Is $270 when you turn the dial all the way to the left (which is the lowest allowed bid) or where is starts when you open the page (which is usually about halfway or more).

I have an upcoming AC flight. If I pretend to rebook, it offers me an upgrade for $144 whereas bidding is $210 when I open the page (can drop to $135). However, the cheapest economy ticket is now about $70 more than I paid while the business class fare only increased by about $5 - the differential is less now than when I booked and the bidding is based on the differential from what I paid. It's less than a 90 minute flight and I've got elite status so already get extra luggage and access to the lounge, so I will definitely not be bidding.

Unless you have a refundable fare, it is definitely not cheaper to re-book to upgrade.

Also, if there are seats, AC generally offers upgrade for a fee at check-in. You can hope for that if (a) you don't want to bid or (b) your bid isn't accepted. Not sure if there is a set cost for that or if it fluctuates based on availability (I know that UA is the latter, so suspect AC is too).

For a taxi, I’d just use a card. I would figure that the fee to order money would be about the same as the small fee to pay with the card, and would t worry about it.

We tend to get money from an atm once in Vancouver for ease, and never feel that even that fee is a problem.
