Counterfeit designer bags at my mall!!!

Most real Coach bags are made in China these days:guilty:

So, they have gone to sweatshop type labor. Sad.

I have to say that I am glad my daughter and I have more interesting things to talk about when we are together:goodvibes Glad I am raising an educated gal who would be perplexed if I started playing "let's point out fakes" with her:love:

Okay, last post then I'm done, because you are taking pot shots now. Not that I need to explain, but for you, I will. Pointing out the fakes to my DD is an education for her to identify if she is going to be ripped off in future. She now knows that if she is to spend her hard earned money, she will pay for what she is expecting and not for a fake. It has no bearing on the purse carrier, but you probably don't believe that anyway because you already have your mind made up what kind of person I am, since you know me so well from the few posts this evening. The Olympics are on, I'm watching the skating (dare I admit that or do I open myself up to more jests?). On the advice of a legal friend, I'm calling the FBI ICE agency in Williston tomorrow morning to file a complaint against the kiosk and I'm done. Have a wonderful evening everyone. Enjoy your wonderfully diverse interests.

OT but I have a questions about Coach purses.. I thought the "c"s were supposed to line up in a certain way. My old one does, but the one my dh got for me for Christmas from Macys (I have the gift receipt) doesn't. :confused3

The "c"s have been modernized the past few years. They still sell the old style, but I'm mostly seeing the new style around here now.

our favorite way to pass the time is playing "Real or Fake".

Oh, DH and I played this game poolside in Las Vegas, except we weren't spying on handbags.

Telling her to only go to authorized dealers of such merchandise would probably work, too. :flower1:

Why not tell her to only purchase from an authorized retailer?:confused3
A bag from Macy's or Dillards will not be a knockoff

Would the mall really allow someone to set up a kiosk dedicated to doing something illegal?

But our whole society is based on status items. Does that make each and every company "guilty?" I mean, no one needs a tv, no one needs a new car, or closets full of clothes, or big homes, or vacations...

If we were all trying to be both globally responsible and acting the best interest of humanity we would live on as little as possible, consume as few resources as possible, and give everything we didn't need to help those who needed it. But we aren't all Mother Theresa... I don't see how a new car is any less of a status item than a handbag, or a large screen tv, or a vacation, or new clothes.

It was mentioned that there is nothing inherently superior in a designer bag, and that is absolutely true. But there's also nothing inherently bad in it either, it's just a bag. The fact that someone values it enough to pay a lot of money for it, means just that. Same as any consumer good. The fact that someone envies, or wants something and feels entitled to have it without paying for it is not a justification for supporting crime.

I agree with you on most of those points. I don't believe our society is based on status items (at least for most of us it is not), but I do agree that you can find a Lexus version of just about every consumer good. And no, envy doesn't justify supporting crime. But let's just ACKNOWLEDGE that these are status items. That would be a good place to start.

Nice guys, thanks. DD has had the laptop, read your responses and pressed me to now respond. She has bought 4 purses from Ebay (2 Coaches, an LV and a Burberry) and has been able to tell whether they are fake or not. Pretty good for a 16-year old working hard to spend her money wisely. And she couldn't understand why the snarkiness. Nice job.

I thought you left? Why would you send your daughter to read something offensive :confused3

Honestly? She does not understand why we did not think it was okay to make fun of other peoples stuff?

Good point Princess. Why didn't she just respond if she was questioning the snarkiness? Or was she perhaps eluding to a certain other lady who plays "real or fake" with her daughter who always seems to be condescending with any post she makes?

I didn't "send" her, I had it minimized and she maximized it, my mistake. We had a conversation about it, she told me I should clear up the confusion.

And what confusion is that? I think we're all pretty clear on what you were saying no matter how much you try to back pedal.

No, because it has never been about making fun of other people's stuff. Did I ever say we mocked the purse owners? Wow, you guys sure don't get it do you, but you like to jump to conclusions and read into things about people you barely know. Evidently those of you who say you have "better things to do" don't.

I for one, can admit that I have absolutely nothing better to do tonight. I like to read all of this sillyness. But, for the record, you'd never be able to tell my "designer" handbag from a cheap knockoff. Bedazzled bags almost always look the same...which is AMAZING!

well I don't understand why you put "" around designer, you did design it....

I haven't heard anyone say a designer handbag isn't a status item. And I'm sure there are people who buy them for the sole reason of the label to impress other people. I'm sure people by a lot of things for the same reason. Not my thing, but even if impressing people is the reason for owning something it's still not my place to judge. (I'll just probably disappoint when I'm not impressed.) Right now I think the new status item of choice is an iPhone. Darned if those things aren't everywhere! And you'll never convince me that people have them because they need one.

I just think most items are status driven on some level. You can get by on very little, but most people don't. They make choices based on what they like, want, and can afford. (Okay, maybe not that last one... But then, that just goes to show how much people are willing to do to acquire "stuff" in general.)

Anyway, I'm happy the general consensus seems to be counterfeit = bad, regardless of what the actual opinions are about designer handbags.

Once again, Ember is the voice of reason! Well said, again! :goodvibes
