Countdown Cruisers - Ringing in the New Year on the Disney Wonder - 12/31/2013

A bit hesitant to do Thanksgiving in the Gulf as that is still hurricane season. Maybe they will be running the West Mexico ones again someday.

Jim

Ahh. I'm not scared! :cool1:

Talking with Amy and she is leaning toward Christmas. Since she isn't as much as a Mouse Addict as me so I want to make it as good as I can for her.

She has to see if can get it off so we may still be on this one.

Jim

Christmas would be awesome as well. If you choose that one, you'll have to come back here and tell me all about it. I might do that one day, but I don't know. We have lots of local family and with the distance in ages between my daughters, I have a grandson and a daughter still at home so Christmas is going to stay "young" and "magical" for many more years that I don't want to miss out on.

I'm excited about going on my first Disney cruise and celebrating the New Year at the same time! I'm disneyham2014's mom and already planning Fish Extender gifts:).

Welcome "Mom!!" I can't wait on this cruise either! And New Year's Eve just makes it that much more exciting. We are also planning our Fish Extender gifts already. I think I've figured out most of mine. I'm a teacher and my plan is to make them during summer break so I'm not stressing next year before the cruise to finish.

Amy and I are debating between this one and the Christmas cruise. I'm leaning toward this but am a little worried about the long day. We would have to be up around 3am, drive from Dallas and than party until after midnight? Might be a bit long for the two us

Jim

Jim, we are planning on driving down the day prior and seeing the sites in Galveston..Hotels are pretty inexpensive there so we plan on resting up for the NYE events on the ship

Well turns out this ends up being a false alarm for us. Neither of our works will let us off for either of the weeks. Mine might but I would have to wait until after July for a chance and by than I doubt there would be a lot left.

Amazingly enough Amy is still up for the cruise as long as we go someplace not the Bahamas. Been there twice. Someplace new.

Thxs,
Jim

Awww. Hate that. I guess that's one advantage to teaching school. I know exactly when our breaks are. The disadvantage is that I can only travel during those times so it's always crowded and expensive.

We have signed up to join the 12/31 cruise as well! Booked when we were onboard the Magic in February. Had such a great time that we wanted to go back before DCL left Galveston.

We would like to join the FE group too!

Steph, Andy, DS Tyler (7) and DD Isabella (will be 4)

I teach too and plan on making mine during the summer...uuuhhh while the kids are at the day camps. I do have a question. Do you do a gift for each person for each night? And do you deliver for all over the ship or just for your floor?

Welcome to the group. Wish we could have taken more advantage of it being in Galveston, but it just doesn't work with our school schedule at all. But I wanted to support the Galveston port so we are doing back to back 12/27 and 12/31. Don't think it's sold well at all so probably won't be back for a very long time, if ever.

Some do a gift per person. Others per room. I tend to do a "family" gift and then a little something for each kid. Only once per cruise and everyone on the list, not just your floor.

We're coming too!

I had booked on the Dream last October for the Dream again this December, because I didn't realize the Wonder would be in Galveston. Just switched it! So excited to DRIVE to the port! :goodvibes:

Please add us to fish extender list too!

Welcome to the group!! I'm super excited to drive to the port as well!!!

Only 253 more days!!

Just booked as well. Very excited to be sailing on NYE!!
DH, myself, DD will be 14, and DS will be 10.

Question: I notice that 14 year old can go to Edge or Vibe. Do they tend to go to one or the other?

JJ Max n Mickey I have kids who will be 15, 12 and 7 at the time of the cruise. My 12 year old is at an age where he can go into the Tween club or the younger kids' club. I am thinking that I will have him visit both at the Open House times and see which one he thinks he will like better. I am hoping he will decide to go to the younger kids' club that his 7 year old sister can go to. I'm sad that my 2 sons won't be able to be together. I wish they could go to either club but it sounds like they have to choose one or the other.

I have some Fish Extender group questions. I have read some posts about exchanges but am not clear on everything involved. How many times will we deliver gifts to those in the group? And then the deliveries are spaced out so that we will likely get gifts on each day of the cruise? So if there are 10 cabins participating and they have 35 passengers in the exchange, I would come to the cruise with 35 Fish Extender gifts and we will then deliver to 10 other cabins sometime during the cruise or are we assigned a day to deliver? And then if I want to sign up my 3 kids for the exchange, and there are 10 other cabins participating, each of my kids should get about 10 Fish Extender gifts throughout the cruise? Sorry for all the questions...this is our first cruise and it sounds like a fun thing but I just want to know what we are getting ourselves into before signing up.

So happy that we will be sailing with you!!

Believe it or not, we're going on the Fantasy for my birthday in July. (It will be my bf's first cruise and my 6th Disney.)

Tonight, I convinced the bf we should go on the Wonder for New Year's since it is a hop, skip, and jump away... And he said yes!

I've never sailed the Wonder, only the Magic. Should be a fun way to celebrate 2014!

Jim

I've been on three Disney cruises at Christmas and they are so much fun!! Every now and then they have extended cruises, one was 10 nights and the other 11 nights.

When my daughter had the choice, she chose the tween club and LOVED it (just so you are prepared :rotfl2:).

Fish Extender - let's see if I can make this clear as mud :goodvibes

  • You deliver gifts only once (unless you just want to do more, but all you are "contracted" to do is one time)
  • Each person delivers when they want so yes, they are spaced out fairly often. The last day may not have much (in my experience) as people try to get stuff out before then so that they can pack up.
  • Some people do a gift or gift set per room. Others do per person. This would be entirely up to each person. So if 10 rooms sign up, you may only bring 10 gifts. Or you may one gift for the adults to share and one for each child, or one per person, or any other idea you want. All you should do is at least one per room.
  • Your kids may or may not get 10 gifts each. Some people give per cabin so it would just depend on the gifter.

Question: I notice that 14 year old can go to Edge or Vibe. Do they tend to go to one or the other?

I don't know if there's a trend in what they choose, but they do have to commit to one or the other. They can't go back and forth.

Anyone going to be on the Wonder 12/31/2013 cruise? Is there a meet thread yet? If so, point me in the right direction PLEASE!! If not, let's start one! I just booked!! :cool1:
