I'm really hoping someone can help....i really would love to make a countdown calendar for my kids, i was hoping someone has one or did one in the past that maybe you can share with me, or if anyone has any ideas for me....
anything would be greatly appr. thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!:thumbsup2

Go to the design board. there are a few designers there that already have them made...and they are really great:)

For our last trip in Sept 07 GG and Poppy made a calendar on the computer that we decorated with stickers. Added birthdays and hand wrote the # of days left.
Today I bought a Disney calendar in the mall for 75% off. And I'll hand write the # of days left again. That will be a project as we don't leave until Dec 7th!
But, it's fun for her to countdown the days. Whenever GG comes over they use Disney stamps to mark off the days.

I made one with squares cut out of card stock. I used the Waltography MV font and I hole punched the top and put yarn in it and tied it so they could be flipped over and saved. I also used Disney clip art on certain days. Like on 10 days till Disney, Minnie is cheering.

My page margins were:
top .5"
bottom .4"
left .3"
right .3"

Then I made a table with two columns and adjusted it until I had a square the size I wanted. Then I would mess with it until I had 4 squares on a page (2 by 2).

I left some room at the top of the square for the hole punch. Then I centered and typed:

SUNDAY
JANUARY 13, 2008

00 DAYS TILL DISNEY

Some might be a little different:

SUNDAY
JANUARY 13, 2008

NO SCHOOL TODAY

00 DAYS TILL DISNEY

OR:

SUNDAY
JANUARY 13, 2008

(CLIP ART)

00 DAYS TILL DISNEY

You can adjust it to meet your needs. Then I printed it and cut out the squares, hole punched them, and ran the yarn through them.

We do a "countdown caterpillar" (aka paper chain). I cut and pasted pictures of Disney characters into WORD (or you can use stickers just as easily) and then cut strips. I wrote on each strip "____ days until Mickey's house" and then stapled into a caterpillar. The kids added a head with a giant pompom with googly eyes.

We hung it on the fridge and every day they take turns removing a link. They have fun seeing which character is on the link each day too.

It really helps them visualize the time getting closer as the caterpillar gets shorter and shorter!

thats awesome to, i totally apprec. all the replies i got, thank you all!!!!!!!!!!!!

We did the paper chain, but my favorite (which I saw AFTER we started our chain) was poster board filled with the Mickey head Paint chips from Home Depot. It was adorable! Each head had a number (on the ears, I think) and rather than crossing out Mickey, the kids would draw a face on the head for that day! VERY cute, very cheap and lots of fun and creativity!

What great ideas! I think I'll have to do something like this for our family. :) DS is getting a Melissa and Doug wooden magnetic calendar for his birthday next month, maybe I'll try and incorporate that into our countdown.

I made a calendar using a Word template. I did something on every day such as:
1) used glitter markers as a blob of pixie dust.
2) wrote a fun fact about WDW
3) put a Disney character sticker
4) listed an activity such as watch a Disney movie, make a snack, craft, etc.
5) wrote down holidays, birthdays, etc.

I used post its to cover each day. On the post its I wrote the number of days left. Each morning, one of the girls would lift the post it for that day and read or enjoy what was underneath.

Also, I went up to World Market and got chocolate coins. I put enough chocolates in a container so that after dinner, we would split a chocolate counting down the days left to our vacation.

My friend posted pictures of her countdown calendar in her pre-trip report:

:)

I just saw this post and was about to reply with a picture :rotfl: You beat me to it! Thanks for the plug ;)

Winkers has a picture of hers (and it's really cool and seems pretty easy to make using the Home Depot paint color sample Mickey heads) in her PTR on the PTR board.

Blueyed Girl also has a picture of one in hers.
