Could you point us in the right direction?

First off, while I have only been able to read a few pages of these threads, I can't say enough about what a wonderful group of people you all are.

This year we had planned a trip to WDW with my husband and two kids
(11,9).

After speaking to my m-i-l a few times, it really broke my heart. They've done so much for us and it seems like things have just become so mundane for them. I am worried that she actually may be depressed. So, on the spur of the moment, and to my husband's surprise, I added my m-i-l and f-i-l on to our trip as as surprise. We are from the North East so the change of climate should be terrific for them.

We took my f-i-l to the mall the other day and it really hit me that walking is really hard for him. He has so much pride though.

Are there threads you could point me to on how to rent wheelchairs? I don't think he'll do a ECV as he can be a bit clumsy and if he gets a cut, things can turn quite messy due to blood thinners! I am thinking that we'll rent wheelchairs and push them around?? Is this crazy of me?

Maybe we can skip some of the parks, but if you can't believe it, in 85 years, they've never been to Disney World! Any help would be much appreciated.

check out the FAQs at the top of the page - there are bunches of pointers there...

i would suggest renting off site, as it can be a trek to get from car to rental counter. also the park ones are terribly uncomfortable... i use a personal manual chair there, and its a lifesaver for me!

Yep, post #2 of the disABILITIES FAQs thread has links to a number of companies that rent wheelchairs and ECVs.
For someone who wants their independence, an ECV is a good choice. But, it can be intimidating to drive one and if someone is not real confident, it may not be for them.

Also in post #2 of the disABILITIES FAQs thread, there are some other helpful threads about accepting renting an ECV or wheelchair.

If you don't see that thread near the top of this board, you can click on the link in my signature to get there.
