Could the reopening be pushed back?

This is totally and completely off-topic and should not be posted here. We are talking about Disney re-opening and this a politically charged comment. I will not respond with my own political rebuttal to this post.

I think you already did... :sad2:

Nuff said, not worth wasting my time to reply to you any further then I already have.

I saw today on the news that college students are having COVID-19 parties and trying to get sick for money. They collect money at these parties and the first person to get sick gets the pot. This is exactly why the cases/numbers are up...they think this virus is "fake". The numbers were starting to go down and now this. We have a trip planned in early October and are playing the waiting game but more than likely will wind up cancelling. :(

Hmmm... wonder where they got the idea that the virus is "fake"? Every news report I see and every article I read where doctors and epidemiologists are cited, it's clear what we should do. Mask and distance.

I don’t think it’s because they think it’s fake. It’s probably because they listen to the science and know for a young healthy person the chance of getting significantly ill is minuscule and they might as well get it over with before classes start.

And wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.

That doesn’t seem to imply it was fake, if it was then nobody would win the pot. It just seems to me like they think they’re invincible, which frankly...how many young kids don’t?

Irresponsible? Yes. Inconsiderate? Yes. Fake? Nah.

First, it might be a little short-sighted when they don't yet know the full and long-term impact of what this may do to someone who has a mild case, if they don't get a serious one. How are they going to know?

Secondly, there is no proof that once you've had it, you can't get it again.

But then, they are students. They don't know everything yet.

I also think it's because they are young and have been in lockdown for a substantial amount of time. I don't know how old all of you are but I can certainly remember being in my late teens and twenties, I would have been going totally stir-crazy after 3.5 months of not going anywhere and not being able to see my friends (boy friend). I know that doesn't make it right but I can see it from their point of view. Maybe for them they are thinking herd immunity?

I've seen several reports where people have had it, and then got it again. Obviously, not being an epidemiologist, it seems horrifying to me to think getting it once doesn't preclude one from getting it again. I'm sure though, in the science world, this is the norm given the ever evolving strains of the same virus.

I'm just hoping for the evidence that proves Dole Whips prevent the coronavirus.

I love when our late teens and early 20's kids tell us that they just need to go hang out with friends. Because when I think of their friends coming over and hanging out, all they do is text each other on their phones while they're all in the same place. Which is no different than what they're doing now :)

Yeah in my day we didn't text...ahhh showing my age!

This brings to mind one time when DH and I had tea at the GF and there was a young couple at the table across from ours on what appeared to be a date. The entire time they were both on their phones texting, what a waste. I guess their phones are more interesting than each others company...sad... :sad2:

At VBR, I’m seeing almost 100% compliance. There have been a few coming up from the beach that haven’t put them on right away. For the most part though it’s been good. I thought wearing the mask in FL heat would be miserable but it hasn’t been that bad. A little uncomfortable, yes, but we’ve adjusted pretty quickly. CMs have been wonderful. They are keeping everything sanitized. Having a great time and so glad we decided to come!
We arrive at Disney's Vero Beach Resort on Sunday, then we switch over to the Grand Floridian and Polynesian a few days later. Great to hear that Disney is taking this seriously, even while other places do not.

Unfortunately, as the resort has filled up there has been less compliance. Seeing more people without masks or with masks in their hands on the walkways.☹

October is over 90 days away. Think about where NYC was just 90 days ago. So much can change in that time.
One difference is that 90 days ago, NYC had already been in near-lockdown for at least 3 weeks (since mid-March), and since it was still cold out, there really were no people out and about. You masked-and-gloved up to run to the grocery store (or got groceries delivered) and that was it. The streets were empty. And cases were still going up even after weeks of pretty extreme measures. Pics are from almost exactly 90 days ago, and outdoor dining *just* opened last week. Subways that used to be wall to wall people during rush hour back in February are still pretty empty now.

(Will get to a desktop and fix these next week)

Crazy! Those streets float upside down without all the people to weigh it down.

I am still irrationally holding on to my end of August reservations but it’s looking grim. We’ve canceled two trips already and downsized this one - it was supposed to be a birthday trip for ODD and we were bringing her BFF’s family. We hadn’t revealed that part yet, but her BFF’s family had to pull out of the trip - dad lost his job, 2 uncles got sick and one of them died. We really really need a break but I’m afraid the numbers aren’t going to go down fast enough even if everyone in FL complies 100%.

another frame of reference- NYC had its first confirmed case reported on March 1 and March 13 was my kids’ last day of school. (Some schools were already on spring break so they were isolated by March 6) We went into lockdown pretty quickly and it still took a long time to get things under control. 😥

ETA: Sorry for the whining; I’m not trying to preach but I’m just sad and trying to get myself mentally ready to tell ODD, who will be disappointed but will understand. We had been looking forward to a little magic after many months of anxiety.

Covid19 cases were sure to go up. We can't stay locked down forever and eventually we just all need to get on with life. Those at risk and those who can afford to stay home can stay home to protect themselves but at some point we will all come in contact with the virus. Even if there is a vaccine it will not be 100% effective. Wear masks, wash your hands and open the Parks!

7000 Cast Members have already signed a petition and the Actors Equity Union has asked Disney to delay opening. We need to see what happens with the other WDW unions (Unite Here! 737 and 362, IATSE 631, Teamsters 385, TCU 1908, and UFCW 1625) Workers do not need to need to die so we can see the mouse

Imagine everyone telling their employer I don't want to go to work due feeling concern for getting sick. Remember Disney is a business with employees they pay to work. Too afraid to step outside, fine just don't expect your employer or unemployment to have to pay you. This is a virus, they exist and will continue to exist. Remember back in March when we were told it was to flatten the curve? All we did was extend this out, the virus isn't going away, it will continue to be out there like many Corona viruses before it. Protect yourself, wash your hands, live your life. I am going to protect myself, but live my life without fear of this. Hope you stay well.

I couldn't agree more. We were originally told by the experts, 2 weeks to flatten the curve. Look at us now, in some cases scared and trying to hide from a virus that will continue on. Life is short and something is going to catch up with you eventually as life does! Hope you stay well!
