Could the reopening be pushed back?

Last time I looked ( not today) there were very few cases in MCO and 0 in the Lake Buena Vista area. SWA requires masks so I think if we stay ‘in the bubble’ it is actually clearer there than here in Arkansas. I get CMs live (and breathe) in the surrounding areas where exposure is more likely, but so far that has not translated to cases as far as I can tell. We’re headed to WDW on Thursday (AP preview with ODD on Friday!) . I am nervous but life does need to go on and this is a pretty calculated risk in my opinion.

Life does need to go on, but I still want a hospital bed & an ICU bed available to those who need one. That is becoming a huge issue in some areas.

Maybe you won't get infected: maybe you'll recover quickly without complications. But what if you or someone you care about does need hospital care and there are no hospitals with space for you/them available?

Maybe the reopening should be pushed back if Florida can't provide the needed care for those who need it.

Hospitalizations are different everywhere. I don’t know the situation in Orlando, but we had to lay off healthcare workers here because the census was so far down. Capacity is definitely not an issue where I live.

Orange County has 15 hospitals in the area. Numbers of available hospital beds in 9 of them are in the single digits. AdventHealth Orlando is the only hospital that has over 100 beds, with 228 beds available.

ICU beds in the county only have 18.89% availability, statewide they are at 20.46%.

What are the numbers normally without the virus?

Also the numbers may be artificially high due to the previous hold on elective procedures. I’m sure they bottle-necked a bit.

I'm sure without the virus, it would not be a significant issue, since they are in the business of making money.

During a pandemic, they are supposed to leave adequate room availability. That's not it. So, if it is due to elective procedures, they should be working to fix that quickly with the cases exploding in Florida.

If you are outside, social distancing, why wear a mask? No need to. Enjoy the fresh air and life in general.
Just reporting what I see. Why wear a mask you ask...because it’s the rule when on Disney property. Not a fan of the masks personally BUT it looks like they’re not going away. I believe it will be a requirement for me to return to work as a teacher. I honestly forget I’m wearing the mask. I got all the way down to the beach today and sat in my chair before I realized it was still on (you can remove them once you enter the beach and pool areas). You get used to it even in the heat.

Thanks for reporting and giving us an update on how things are at the resorts.☺

What kind do you have? The blue paper ones smell to me and my homemade ones are difficult to talk in without it moving.

Good thing to remember also is not to confuse ICU beds available with just the virus. As some hospitals opened surgeries again, that ICU hospital bed could have a patient with any possible condition, not just the virus. I think they mislead some people when they talk about the ICU bed availability. Hope you all stay well!

Generally post op without complications most people are out of the ICU in 2 days.

I got my masks at the Vera Bradley store. They’re not too thick and the ear straps are comfortable.

I honestly think WDW will be safer than the local mall. I don’t think WDW should delay unless there is a full lockdown of the whole county.

A bed occupancy rate in the mid 70s is common at many hospitals.

With many elective procedures delayed, hospitals that were not located in hot zones dropped below their averages during much of the shutdown. My neighbor, who is a general surgeon, was placed on unpaid leave during the shutdown. He told me there were many others at his hospital who were sent home, and that bed occupancy plummeted to an all-time low. However, we live in a place that was not a hotspot.

My nephew, who is a physician's assistant in NYC, was reassigned to his hospital's dedicated COVID-19 ward to handle cases there. He was working overtime during the peak.

It remains to be seen how strictly Disney will enforce the mandatory mask policy
If it was me, I would prefer that anyone who violates the policy is asked to leave for the day, with no possibility of returning
Yes, it is harsh, but it is the only way to force compliance
But then u have all the people who say. I have this condition and my mother has this and my father has this. That’s what I see around where I live. This is such hard times cause of safety but then also people feeling thier constitutional rights r being challenged. I get both sides I really do. Some days I flip flop I’ll admit. It’s hard to just be so black and white but as things get worse slowly again even here I think we need to just listen and be safe.

Beds are filling in hospitals cause procedures are starting again in full swing. My buddy who is a physician is like a revolving door cause he is so backed up from being down 3 months. He is filling beds along with all the other surgeons. The amount of post surgical PTs I have right now is pretty high compared to what I usually have.

I'm glad the postponed procedures are starting up again. Many of those postponed weren't really elective.

But that isn't the point. The beds need to be available for anyone who needs one. If the procedures are starting up again & needing beds, all the more reason for us to do what we can to slow the spread of the virus down.

Totally agree that beds need to be available for everyone! I was just trying to make the point that when you are reading numbers you see on the news when they are talking about Covid, you can't assume they mean the beds are filled with just Covid patients. Sorry if I wasn't clear in my explanation! 😊

We just got an emergency text yesterday that all the hospitals in our part of Texas are at capacity. I'm wondering if they'll put non-emergency surgery on hold again.

The potential for seeing people flouting the mask rules ("Oh, I have---", something they don't have) is the main reason why I won't go to WDW right now. Don't want to see it.

I went on a 13 mile bike ride yesterday, with a mask on. 95 degrees. I figure it would be beyond a good simulation of Disney with a mask on in September, considering walking is far less strenuous.

I'm Asthmatic, bad enough to where I've been hospitalized in the past. I'm also 39, not 20.

I was fine.

Anyone who says they can't a handle mask is just making excuses. Sorry. I don't want to hear it.
