Hi!

I've seen so many posts about CP in which people talk about the wonderful "Breakfast Lasagna"! What is it exactly? What's in it and why is it so special?

Just curious! :earboy2:

Thanks!
Sheila

It's layers of waffles, pancakes, pound cake, pastry cream, and berries. I think I may be forgetting something. I haven't tried it, but will be if I get PS at CP in Oct.

Hope this helps.

When you say pastry creme do mean like what might be found inside of a creme filled Krispy Kreme donut? If so, I'm there!

I LOVE the Breakfast Lasagna  I found the recipe:
Breakfast Lasagna
from the Crystal Palace, Magic Kingdom

(6 servings)

Make the pastry cream first
1-1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
6 egg yolks
1-1/2 cups milk
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
3/4 cup sugar

In a 2 quart saucepan, combine sugar, flour, salt and milk over medium heat and cook stirring until mixture thickens. In a small bowl with a fork, beat egg yolks slightly, beat small amount of milk mixture into yolks. Slowly pour egg mixture back into milk mixture. Stirring constantly, cook over medium low heat until mixture thickens. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract. Chill cream until ready to use.

Assembly:
6 pancakes
6 waffles
1 pound of strawberries
8 ounces of blueberries

Put a thin layer of Pastry cream in a pan, make a layer of waffles, put a layer of pastry cream. Cut strawberries into slices. Take half the strawberries and half the blueberries and make a layer of fruit. Top the fruit with a layer of pancakes, then layer of pastry cream. Garnish the lasagna with the rest of the strawberries and blueberries. Bake in a 350 degree oven for 20 minutes.

It's more like a custard. :flower:

I was scared of breakfast lasagna at first. too. Then I saw it. The top is carmelized so I had to try it. If you like fruit, pancakes and custard you have to try this. It's very good.

The recipe doesn't list the pound cake you mentioned was in it. Hmmm...so is there pound cake in addition to the waffles and pancakes? This is gonna go on my must do list for next trip!

I have been to CP for breakfast 3 times, but I have never tried the Breakfast Lasagna!! I think I will definitely give it a try in May as it sounds yummy  There is just so much to choose from that I have never left any room to try it!

OMG- It is SOOOOO Good.

We make it at home. Our recipe doesn't have the pound cake either, but that definately makes it more interesting. It is a must have item for our Christmas breakfast.

It is awsome. So is the Prime Rib Hash. The Crystal Palace has always been one of my favorite breakfast buffets. Only 46 more days.
