I am literally heading to the Fedex drop off to mail my signed contract and I found a thread where members are complaining that they have been told by MS in Feb that there is NO availability for BWV in December. So, I go to the WDW website and see that I can book any size villa for any time in December with cash. I thought that by becoming a DVC member that gave me priority over non members for booking at villas....not the opposite. Why would MS tell a member that there is no availability 11 months out and yet be providing cash reservations for non members during this popular reservation time? Can someone please clarify before I solidify this transaction?? Thanks!

BWV owners do get booking priority over any other DVC resort owners booking on points.

Cash reservations come from a different room inventory. So there are many instances where all the point bookings for a DVC resort are sold out but there are still cash reservations available.

Disney maintains a certain percentage of each resort for cash reservations as well as points that have been traded out to non-DVC destinations.

No funny business going on here by Disney, but it is a common misunderstanding we see on these boards.

Hmm! Well, it's something to consider for sure. I guess if everyone who's home resort is BWV or BCV can handle it, I should be able to with an SSR home resort. I would think that would really upset those members who have a BWV or BCV home resort though. Thanks (Mr.) granny for clearing that up. Better to know now than to send my contract in and then find out later and feel like I was mislead.

Anytime a member trades out of DVC for a different reservation - WDW hotels, DL hotels, DCL, II trades, etc. - the points used to make these trades go to CRO to rent out. The cash made from this then pays for the trade.

So all the availability you see on the web is available from those trades.

Yep you missed that explanation in your paperwork, it's there. It is just something we all knew when we bought and as said the inventory if different so really those rooms are not available to DVC for point rentals.

If this bothers you, please avoid the rent/trade board and ebay, because when you see how many rentals are there for those prime weeks where members have booked it and now are selling the reservation, you will be upset all over again.

When booking for December, you should be on the phone at your booking window, especially for Xmas/NYE week. You should have seen the posts about how long people were on hold! And I am sure it wasn't just BWV owners. Though I think one of them had a thread called "you snooze you lose at BWV for Xmas". I would also do this for your Spring Break.

We bought at SSR and I called 12/23(11 month) for Thanksgiving and I was on hold for about 15 minutes, but got my 2br and now I am set.

Aah! The fine print!! Well, it did give me pause, wondering if it was worth it, since I obviously could just book a villa in a prime location with cash any time I want without member restrictions. However, since the price of that "sample" 7 night December villa cost about 1/3 of my total membership cost, I decided I would rather pay now for membership, rather than be hit with that accomodation fee every year for the next 20 years.

You also have to consider that the flexibility (ability to trade out) is part of the reason you see the CRO accommodations available when DVC has nothing available on points. If you didn't have the ability to trade, those units would mostly still be in the hands of DVC.

Yes, I know, all of those posts regarding hold times with MS and not being able to reserve rooms on holidays had me really freaked out. But, I was able to reserve exactly what I wanted at my home resort and any time I've called MS, I've only held for a few minutes. So, now that I've seen the reality, I know that those are not "all day, every day" scenarios. You have to know the system and make sure you are working it properly to your advantage. That's why I keep scanning these threads and I keep learning something new everyday!!

There are some locations that are not available to cash customers through CRO - like BW view, standard view at BWV, dedicated two bedrooms at BCV with two beds in the second bedroom. GVs usually are not available, but we have all heard at least one non-member getting a GV one or twice.

Actually I called MS today and CRO about booking a cash reservation in June , NO 1 bedrooms or studio's available for CASH for my dates . NO studios on points but there was a 1 bedroom available for points . :sad1: I have no more points :sad1: , so I needed a cash ressie , but alas no.

Well, I don't know why they would say that, because if you go to book a reservation on the disneyworld.com website for the month of June, it shows studio and 1 bedroom availability at BWV. I tried two different weeks in June.

Are you talking about cash discounted rooms. I don't know, is that a different inventory? If you are just willing to pay cash, without discount it is available according to their website. But, maybe if you are requesting a 25% discount, that is why they are telling you there is no availability? I don't know...does anybody know?

Can Disney monitor eBay and rescind membership to DVC members that are trying to sell their reservations?

I think that Disney would be then monitoring this board and others that have sections to advertise the sale of said reservations, as well. I am under the impression that selling reservations/renting points is allowed under the terms of my DVC contract.

I do understand that calling to "reserve" peak time-frames under the feeling that you can then up-sell them is a mis-use of the policy. However, I would hate it if I had to cancel a reservation due to unforeseen circumstances, and then would lose my points and be unable to even give that ressie away to friends or family. There is no real way for MS to enforce the former without the latter.

Unfortunately, one of the disadvantages of DVC is having to work within time frame restrictions. Last minute trips are possible but not guaranteed, and December/October, T-giving, Easter, Spring Break, may all require calling at the 11 month window to even have a chance at getting a ressie.

I was trying for the first weekend in June, the 2nd and 3rd , but CRO and waltdisney.com do not have any 1 bedrooms at BWV.

I did just check again hoping maybe something opened up but nope :-(

You're right, I didn't check those particular dates. They just have a studio for the 2nd and 3rd. Sorry, to get your hopes up!

The inventory held by CRO and the inventory available on DVC points are not the same. They come from the same rooms, but CRO inventory comes from trades that individuals have made into things like the Disney Collection. When DVC owners trade points for stays in non-DVC resorts or for a DCL cruise, those units (i.e.points) turn into CRO units to rent out, and are not available to DVC anymore. So you see, CRO having something available does NOT mean DVC has the same thing available.
