Couch to 5K running plan...has any tried it?

Hey, those of you who recently ordered the Garmin Forerunner from Amazon - was the discounted Amazon price including the $50 Garmin rebate or is that additional? I've got a 305 in my cart that I need to decide on by tomorrow! (305 can be used for biking so DH can use it too - joint bday present!)

You get the $50 on top of the discounted Amazon price. Make sure to print the rebate form off of Amazon, though. (Hopefully I'm not too late to give you this info).

Corinna - GREAT job!! You are absolutely a runner!! You're a racer too! Don't worry about the bulges. Every person I know has bulges. Think about the inner health you're improving too! :thumbsup2 Sorry to hear about your leg woes, but it sounds like you're doing the right thing by getting checked out and following the advice of professionals.

Thanks Katerkat and Kim!

I still almost can't believe I did it. A brief update on my legs: they are better. In fact, as of yesterday, they felt fine, like I could run with no problem. Which I didn't, but I could have! Now that I'm "graduated" I feel at all 6's and 7's. I wonder if we should start a "C25K graduates" thread at some point. I am starting to think that I really could build up to 8 miles by October, no matter how crazy-far it seems now.

I actually missed the how to get the rebate part before. Thanks for filling me in as well, Kim!

You can run 8 miles in October!! You can! :)

I ended up ordering it and prayed I'd get the rebate. :rotfl: I printed it off and I'll get my Forerunner in a week! Woohoo! I'm really excited!

I would be up for a graduates thread. I don't want to clog up this one! How are all the people who started after us doing?

I definitely agree with a graduates thread. Want me to start one? :confused3

Kim, I think that would be super - I haven't been able to wrap my brain around actually starting it and posting the link etc. today. I've been busy failing to pack for a trip, I'm afraid. Let us know where to look and I will meet you there!

I am on week 7 day 2. I just can't believe how this program is turning ME into a runner (well, slow jogger really). I no longer need to use the podcast. I have programmed 5 min. slower paced songs then 25 min. faster songs (my favorite motivating song at 12 min. because if I can get past that point I'm good) and then the slow down song. It really helps me from clock watching. Kudos to you gals that have run races! That's incredible!! I don't think that will be for me, I just want a good way to get fit. My goal is to be able 1. to run 3 miles without breaks (now I'm at 2.25) 2. run when I go on trips so I don't keep falling off the wagon, and 3. lose the last 17 lbs.
Good luck to everyone!!

Keep up the great work!! You're so close to finishing the program. :thumbsup2 You're doing great on your goals....and you ARE a runner! :goodvibes

Those are great goals c4me! What is your favorite motivating song? I can always use a new good motivating song! That was an innovative solution to use your own music that way. Keep going - you are really doing great! :)

I just finished w8d1. I'm not sure I'll ever get to 3 miles in 30 min. nut that's OK. All this running has help to flatten the belly and slim done the thighs.

What week is everyone on?

Is anyone else still doing Couch to 5K on here. I'm on Week 5 and using the podcasts to keep me going. I'd love to chat with other people doing the program!

There were a few still doing the program last week - I am not sure where they are now. It sounds like C25K is going pretty well for you. The podcasts sure are a huge help, aren't they? Keep up the great work!

Its hard to believe how quickly you can get out of the habit of exercising. First its the regular 2 day rest, then the 3rd day gets too busy, then the 4th day you lose motivation so why bother on day 5.

Anyone else felt this way?

After a 6 day rest I got back on the treadmill. I'm on wk 8 so close to the end, I'm determined not to have to start over again. The first 12 minutes were brutal!! Then it all fell back in place :)

Heck yeah, I've been there! :thumbsup2 GREAT job getting back on the dreadmill! :woohoo:

Hey C25Kers! Anyone still working the program over here? How is it going?

Hi Corinna-

"Ran' week 2 first session this morning. I also did my second spin class with a much tougher instructor. My legs feel weak, but I did the entire spin class!

;)

Way to go Colleen!

Man, those spinning classes ARE tough, aren't they? I went to one a few weeks ago and even having finished the C25K program, it was really hard because apparently it uses different muscles.

I am planning to start this program. First on the treadmill because the mosquitos are so bad right now then to outside. Can anyone recommend a great pair of shoes for running? I am a 9.5 wide TIA

Hi Drag n' fly!

I am so excited for you starting C25K - it is an amazing program. When I started, I had some running shoes that weren't all they could be for me. I went to a local running store and they helped me find some that are just amazing. For me, anyway. I don't know that they are the perfect shoe for everyone. So much depends on your individual foot shape and how your body naturally runs. I can tell you what I have, but there is no guarantee you will love it, KWIM? For what it is worth, it is the Nike Air Structure Triax 10+.

Have you found the podcasts? They are so nice for the intervals at the start of the program.

Take care!

Ditto Corinna - I have extremely high arches and find that Adiasas shoes fit better. My good friend has flat feet and finds New Balance shoes fit better. A shoe store employee should be able to help you find the right pair! (I have two right pairs now and alternate them.)
