COSTUMES NO MORE FOR ADULTS!

If Disney tries to go through with this on both coasts, they will (and I hope they will) lose a ton of money. I pray that they change this back. This seems like a suicidal move from a business standpoint.

I feel that it would be suicide, if an attack did happen and Disney was percieved as doing nothing to stop it.

This next part is not directed to Indy #1 Fan, only my personal feelings.

I think Disney is trying to do more to protect it's guests without alarming them. We are living in a world that is far different than the world before. Things seem to be changing rapidly, and Disney has to make changes too. As things deteriorate we are seeing what havoc terrorists , copycats, or someone who is not mentally balanced can inflict. Disney can't screen every individual. It isn't like people are going to another country, they are just going to a theme park to spend a day with family and friends. These are some measures WDW has decided to take to try to control what is very difficult. Instead of putting our wants ahead of everyone else, I believe we should try to look at the whole picture. Universal and Sea World are doing the same things. There could be something going on that we are not aware of. Of course if the media was aware of a threat people would stop going to these places and the results would be catastrophic.

Just saw Celebrations Cinema has posted on their web site that you have to be 12 years or younger to wear makeup or helmets that conceal the face. So it is not just Disney.

It's not going to cost Disney money to not have costumes for adults at MNSSHP. Maybe half the people who did wear costumes will still go, and just wear normal clothes. For the other half who throw a hissy fit and declare they're not going, other guests will replace them.

However, September is a long way away and they might change the policy yet. It all depends on what happens between now and then.

Many of the Halloween parties do not sell out. I think everyone who wants to pay $75 for a ticket pretty much does already. There aren't more people waiting in some virtual line somewhere waiting to take their place.

Technically, the same could be said of any working day in the park. When Disney increased AP's and other tickets or made any other change that "outraged" us, there were plenty of folks decrying they were done with the mouse and never going back. There are MANY days at the parks that don't sell out to capacity...yet Disney hasn't seen drops in attendance or loss of ticket sales. In fact it's increased.

So even if the few outraged folks chose not to go to the party, someone somewhere else (probably a first time family) will decide to go.

Frankly, all Disney has to do to drive ticket sales up is add something new to the party. Change the fireworks show...add a villains party....whatever...

So let's take this to next level -- why not ban day guests who aren't staying on Disney property? After all, if you're staying on property, they have your name, address, and credit card information. They know who you are -- there's a comfort level there you can't get with day guests. If you're a day guest, all they have on you is a ticket...

When we went to MNSSHP, about a third of the adults were dressed up in real costumes - most wore street clothing, Disneybounding style clothing, or a festive T-shirt. So the above scenario would mean that maybe 1/6th of potential ticket buyers would change their minds and not go because they couldn't wear a costume. (I know, not scientifically derived ;) )

Disney could offer a last minute discount to onsite guests then. The dates closer to Halloween are usually packed, BTW.

It WILL cut into their costume sales...

We didn't see any adult Disney costumes on sale at the parks on our last trip - so what sales are you talking about?

Disney doesn't sell costumes for adults at the parks

On the Disney outrage scale ranging from hot cheese removal to 200% ticket price increase, this doesn't register. Actually if people are put off the Halloween party and stop buying tickets that a win for me, if there is a drop in crowds I might actually go to a Halloween party again!

I've read through the entire thread and I don't understand why the age a person wears a costume (and I don't mean ones that already were rules against - I did see a wolverine last year asked to remove their metal claw gloves which I can see as a safety issue) would have any effect on safety.

Mercy, no. I wasn't suggesting such a thing. I was just trying to explain how difficuult it must be for WDW.

We went in October there were more people in costume then in street clothes.

I am hoping they will make things clearer by the time tickets go on sale. I won't wait till the fall to decided if I am going to the party. I am a super planner after all. LOL!

The parks are not the only place to buy costumes.

And how does selling something at Party City have any effect on Disney? If the costume is 'Disney branded' they may get something, but the offsite vendor adult costume business is just a speck of their income. Banning costumes for adults who go to a Disney park for Halloween is not going to touch the cheap costumes they sell at Party City.

Licensing and royalty fees. Fewer adults buying costumes to go to MNSSHP.

Besides, only ... "those who can afford it" ... buy costumes IN the parks or at WDW.

I think it has nothing to do with terrorists and they just decided to release all the rules at once.

It is for safety because if an older teen or adult wear a very well made costume the line gets blurred between guest and CM. In a well made costume you could walk backstage and no one would question you. Also you could get little kids to walk away with you with little to no fight because he this is Disney and it is specialto get to walk a character to and from their spot.

I also imagine with some characters going back to the roaming style ala Disneyland it is harder to say exactly who is who.

You are missing the point, that was big part of the draw for adults to come. I can be upset if I want to. I can choose not to attend the party if I want to. I can choose to spend my money somewhere else as well.

I think Disney is over reacting.

Since none of us know exactly what information Disney (and the other amusement parks) based their recent policy changes on, you have no valid reason for accusing them of OVER reacting. They may ( from a purely security standpoint) be under reacting. We don't know. Of course you are free to react as you see fit.

I can't remember every seeing those type of adult costumes at WDW. Most adults make their own costumes, and they look 10 times classier.
