I am considering the Goofy for 2010. Yes, I see that it is 85% full already. My question is this, what makes it $40 more than the cost of doing a half and a whole? I know there is an extra medal, but...$40? (Silly me for thinking there would be a "deal" if you signed up for both! :lmao: )

Also, how does the Goofy "fill up" before the half and full are full? Is it Disney's attempt to keep it exclusive? With the increased cost, I can't believe they would not be interested in getting as many people as would be willing to pay the extra $40 as possible!!

Thanks for any insight on this.

You get the extra medal and an extra shirt. It fills up so quickly because it is a badge of honor to have done it. People really love the challange of it. In the past, it filled up more quickly so I would assume that they added more goofy slots this year. Yeah, the extra money is for the shirts and an extra medal.

Thanks! I had not thought about the shirt!

Now, to sign up, or not to sign up...

I am doing my first 1/2 at Disney on Sunday. Then, assuming that goes well, a whole in May here in Cincinnati. I'd like to judge my ability to do this after the marathon in May, but of course it will be filled by then...

Disney kinda treats it like a "separate" event and they take into account the number they have set aside to be doing the half and the full. If you sign up separately for them, you do not get the extra shirt or the goofy medal or the "badge" of horror ooopppps sorry I meant badge of honor. hehe

Thanks, Tracy. Hope to meet you this weekend!!

If it helps at all... I ran my first half two weeks ago, am doing my first full in May, and have already signed up for the goofy. I figure worst comes to worst, I could always do a run/walk or whatever just to get through it, although I think there's more than enough time to be ready.

Once you do the Goofy you will keep doing it. It's like once you have done a full the half never seems quite enough anymore. There are several Goofy regulars on the WISH.

I thought I could sign up just to do the half. But as the wise great Panda has said once you get started you can't stop going GOOFY!!! Goin Goofy #3

If you are in training for your full, then you will have time to continue that training for the January event. Awww go ahead sign up and come train with us. We'd love to have you here.

Thanks for the encouragement. I would sign up in a heartbeat...just gotta convince my DH...well, I mean the trip aspect of it. He'd be fine with the marathons, but having me go away on another trip? Different story.

I do a marathon of sorts here in Ohio. For the past 2 years my state senator has walked from Cincinnati to Columbus to highlight a cause. The route is about 90 miles and he does it over 4 days--Fri, Sat, Sun, Mon. I walked 3 days with him last year, and plan to do all 4 days this year. So, I know I can do that. What I worry about is the pace. I'm more of a walker than a runner.

This year's walk to Columbus is 2 weeks before the marathon here in Cincinnati, and about 6 weeks after the Princess half. So, I don't plan to do any other long training run before the full in May. Hope that is a good strategy.

Dave is right. The goofy becomes a habit and I am going for #5 in 2010. The question was "Do you own the streak or does the streak own you"? I know the answer is the streak owns me and have to continue my perfect streak!

:worship: :worship: To all you who do the Goofy. I will be doing my first 1/2 in Jan '10 and at this point the thought of just a marathon is more than I can wrap my brain around.:rotfl:
