We just purchased direct at Poly. Disney gave us 45 days to pay off the balance of our contract which is March 31st. I’m using credit cards to pay (and yes they will be paid in full) and really want to pay the last bit on April 1st to push me into Q2 and a new round of rewards. Has anyone ever done this or gotten a penalty if they have? It would be a very small balance left. Just curious what others have experienced if they happened to be ‘late’.

I think if you contact them they will be willing to work with you to extend it slightly. I told my guide I'd try to pay it off in time as I was paying it with a brand new card that needed several business days for the available credit to come back and he said it was flexible

Not sure how yours is setup, but my guide has informed in the past year that the X days to pay contracts now require you to have a CC on file for final payment and it's scheduled pretty much when you agree to purchase.

Definitely check with your guide or QA because that final payment is probably scheduled already with your deposit card.

Ours was scheduled in advance with a credit card. We were allowed to change the card to a different one, but since the agreement was already written up they wouldn't let us change the date to pay it early. However, I got other misinformation from my guide, so take it with a grain of salt.

Yes, mine told me I could make as many payments as I wanted and change the card, but if I didn't, Disney would expect X amount b y X date with that initial card. This was a change from years prior.

this was my experience when we added on about 8 months ago... I didn't want two payments to hit the same charge cycle, so I actually had to call back a few days later to finalize the purchase... they wouldn't extend the final payment by one day... had to be 60 days exactly...

I think the only reason for optimism for OP is that the change to 45 days is recent and so maybe there is still some residual flexibility that can be utilized. But, I would assume it will become similar to how 60 days was treated previously - a pretty hard and fast deadline.

I do wonder what would happen if you had set up your payment for day 45 (or day 60 previously) and your card was declined on that last day - maybe just a fraud flag - and you didn't realize it until day 46/61. I know when I purchased direct last year, my guide seemed to be slightly anxious about something like that happening and suggested I call my credit card company in advance or maybe schedule it for one day before just in case. Made it feel like the result would be . . . not good.

Anecdotally, based on our direct purchase made on site at Aulani last week vs our direct purchase made a year ago over phone/e-mail:

- I asked for 45-60 days, she said 45 was the longest she could do. (This was the same as last year. Different guide, but both said 45 was the max.)

- Upon agreement of offer, the contract included a printed payment schedule, spreading the payment over 5 more payments (after the initial deposit), on the same card. (I’m pretty darn sure this was not part of the paperwork last year. IIRC, last year’s guide just scheduled a couple of payments verbally, one half way and one on day 45, and told me to call him directly if/when I wanted to change dates/amounts/cards. Which I did.)

- Incidentally, the final payment this year was scheduled for the 44th day, which makes me think they are leaving one day as a fail-safe in case something goes wrong.

- The printed payment schedule had a number to call for the Quality Assurance team if I wanted to make changes. I called two days ago to change the dates/cards/amounts of my remaining payments. So instead of doing this directly through the Guide, I did it with someone from MS. I appreciated scheduling them all at once, even though that meant I had to get things organized upfront. However, I could still call and make changes any time. I called the night before my first scheduled payment and thought it would be too late to change that one, but MS was able to change it. (YMMV as the printed schedule does say to call at least 24 hours before a scheduled payment.)

Hope some of this info is illuminating.

I guess all that is to say: call MS and ask. The worst they can say is no, but it might be easy for them to accommodate you.

Unless you like to go the “do it first and apologize later” route.

My final deposit payment was scheduled for april 4th and we decided to pay it off early this weekend. There was no card on file but there was barely a guide on file at that point so id take that with a grain of salt

at some point I hope you start a new thread to just tell the whole tale of your journey... there were so many twists and turns... it almost feels like it could be a valuable education for prospective members...

I have thought about it once I close and im in the clear 🤣🤣🤣 ive told most of it throughout different threads but I can do a full analysis of what went wrong over and over again. I think where disney went wrong was extreme lack of communication before taking action that eroded trust and was completely unnecessary and where I went wrong is believing verbal promises when I should have known better that it would be a problem regardless of what i was promised! It would literally be a whole trip report 🤣🤣

How did you make your initial deposit?

I worry very much for this new style of buying direct that heavily leans on word of mouth by a guide. So much so that i would refuse to buy direct again unless they provided me with a chart reminiscent of the old one and a guarantee of price and points in writing. Since I asked many times for things in writing and not once was it honored, I feel there would be no point in bothering

Sadly this isn't really new. It all depends on the guide. If you go back to the VGF "fire sale" tons of people weren't given all the proper promotions until they came here and found out what was available. Same with pushing back on UY. Just like some guides say there are no VGC points, but you see tons of posters here saying their guides found the points.

A different credit card
Then Disney 100% had a card on file and I am sure it would have tried charging it on 4/4 if you didn't pay earlier. Your guide probably neglected to mention it.

I would be surprised if they didnt neglect to mention it 😅😅 Its just so interesting, ive always heard people say buying direct is so much easier and smoother. Now obviously my experience was crazy, but take all that away and I still don't find buying direct easier or smoother.

I like how when I buy resale I know exactly what im paying and all fees upfront, what negotiations I can make, that someone isnt getting a deal I didnt know about, and how many points im getting. No calculating over and over to make sure something is correct. I didnt get that with direct and found myself doing calculations and figuring out so much on my own. Sure I guess for the average buyer it is way faster, but I prefer to know what im getting into with this huge purchase

I think your direct contract saga is more of an exception than the rule. I saw some of the details over various threads, but buying a contract direct is usually effortless. You can't really negotiate with Disney. It is what it is and most members have no idea that rewriting a contract is even an option.

there does seem to be a good bit of drama involving the guide... who went from writing nice little handwritten notes and gifts to being persona non grata in @Girlstar30 's heart... and I'm sure there are some details as to why...
