I have plantar fascitis along with heel spurs. We leave for Disney in about 3and a half weeks. My feet are somewhat under control but not nearly 100% maybe under control because I have been babying them. Anyhow has anyone out there ever gotten the cortizone injections in their feet and how was it? I have heard it HURTS but if it would guarantee me relief am considering it. Well I will consider it one week out from trip hoping my feet will have this miraculous recovery. Also has anyone just wrapped it and wore good shoes and how did that work out. Help I don't want to be a sore Disney person with the frown on my face because of pain...:scared1:

yup:thumbsup2

Yes it hurt to get the shot...but not as bad as I had imagined it would..They inject it really sloooooooooow so you have time to get used to the fluid...My podiatrist would talk to me to try and distract me..

It took several days to feel like it worked. I would say it felt weird for about 2-4 days or so after the shot, but then RELIEF :cool1: ....so the pain of the shot was definitely worth the month or so of relief!!!!!

I have friends who have experienced the same thing...Going for my second shot soon!

After you got the shot your foot felt as good as new? My other question you said the pain came back which I have heard, but did it come back to the point it was before the shot? Did you do the stretches in between the shot and the pain coming back? I am just curious because I truly am just fed up with having aching feet:scared1:When you look fine and you want to move it is just so frustrating that your feet aren't on the same page. Have you ever known anyone to get the shot and it didn't help? I did receive 3 shots in my toe once for a ingrown toenail, and that hurt, it fel all warm and like I feel it going around my toe. Did they give you a shot first to numb your foot before the cortizoe? Thanks for the info and help.:thumbsup2

HI!

Yes, the pain came back just like before:headache: The only thing that did help it was when I broke my ankle(on the other foot) and really didn't do anything for close to 3 months giving the foot with the plantar fascitis time to heal. Now that I'm walking again, it is starting to hurt but not as bad as before....Yes I do stretch, probably not as much as I should but I do stretch...

I also NOW where shoes all the time! unless I"m sleeping :) I found that if I go without good arch support for any length of time it makes the plantar fascitis even worse.. I got some really great inserts for my tennis shoes and that has helped too.

Yes, I'm pretty sure they gave me some lidocaine prior to the shot..however it still hurt..Just breathe through it..I personally wouldn't hesitate from getting the shot again.

I, too, have had the cortizone shots for exactly the same problem. I didn't find the shot that painful to receive, although it was a little tender at the injection site for maybe a day or two. It provided me with terrific relief, but the pain does come back. (At least it did for me.) After struggling with it for 18 months or so, I finally got rid of it by doing 6 weeks of PT. It really helped a lot and I haven't had any problems for the last few years (and I am a jogger). Now, as soon as I feel it getting tight, I do the stretches they taught me. By the way, the shots I received were before Disney trips as well. I don't think I could have done all that walking without them! Hope you have a terrific trip!

I just got one about an hour ago. It was uncomfortable but not any worse then the pain already in my foot. I was forced to get it a little earlier then I wanted though since we are going to WDW on Saturday for a last minute conference I'm going to. And since I was able to add on a few extra days after the conference I now need to make ADR's. :cool1:Oh the sacrifices I have to make sometimes.:rotfl2:

I don't know how much/whether it would help with cortisone injections because sometimes injection pain is from the medication itself, but there is a lidocaine cream that can be put on the skin before an injection to numb the skin.
They use this cream for children before injections and also sometimes for wound care. (RN here, not having had any cortisone shots).

Is it Emla cream????

Leavng for Disney on the 18th of MArch:cool1:But I need to get my feet dancing like this little guy. :thumbsup2I went to the podiatrist today and now he wrapped both my feet today. Orthotics should be in this Thursday. But my feet are now hurting in the heel:scared1:I talked with him about the cortisone shots and we both agreed to wait until next week around the 11th. Has anyone ever gotten them in two feet at once, and also how long will the cortisone last for approximately? I know it is only a temporary fix but at the rate I am going I need a temporary fix for Disney....

So it's now been about 24 hours since I got my shot. It feels a little better but could take another day or two before I get full relief, if I'm going to get it. During the whole injection, all 15 seconds of it, he sprayed a freeze spray on it. The needle didn't hurt it was the pressure from the medication going in that felt uncomfortable. I just hope it feels better by Saturday when we get there. I'll let you all know later this week how it is going.

I would be wary -- not everyone responds the same way.

I had three shots in my right heel for PF, and none of them did anything except make my foot EXTREMELY sore for three days -- so sore that I could put no weight on it at all. There was no relief of the original symptoms after the soreness subsided, and the third shot gave me fat-pad atrophy.

If you're getting the shot, I'd get it a week before you go, to give the soreness time to subside -- and by then, you should be able to tell if it's working, and have time to consult with your doctor if it's not.

Sorry to be a raincloud...

Sorry to hear that. I have to say you are the first person I heard this from.:guilty:After your feet weren't sore did it just go back to hurting like it did before? My doctor said to get the shot on Monday and by Thursday it should be fine. He did say that the next day after the shot wouldn't be to pleasant so I don't know. I am just so confused and to be honest nervous about it flaring up in DIsney with all that walking. Thanks for sharing. ANd how is your foot now, and what have you done for it?

OK I felt great the first few days and thought it was working. But then the pain came back just as bad. So it did not work for me. Time to go to PT.

I have been doing PT and some days it does feel good. He really has been massaging my feet and breaking down scar tissue and helping move the inflammation. But today he says oh its inflammed alittle more here. Gotta be from him digging in there. I go for shots on Monday, keep your fingers crossed...Any secrets you did with your feet with the pain while you were there? Ice, Advil, anything prescription?

My feet are still bad... I tried PT too, which helped more than anything else has, but since it wasn't curing me my insurance wouldn't let me continue. We're considering surgery sometime this summer when work is lighter. Has anyone on this thread had the surgery?

I had cortizone shots and they took about a week before the pain went away. They worked good for about six months then the pain started again. The second time I had the shot, it didn't work as well. The Dr. gave me a funny sock with a velcro strap that pulled my toes up. I used that for several months at night and got shoes with good support. I have been pain free for a few years now.

What did they do for you in PT? I have gone so far and he has rubbed each foot for about 15 minutes and then taught me one stretch and then puts some medicine on what looks like an electric stim and does that for 10 minutes. While rubbing the other day he broke up some scar tissue that I heard and felt, but it didn't hurt, thank goodness. But when I leave my feet are sore...Oh and he always tapes my foot before I go which really does make a difference...My very first podiatrist recommended the surgery but I wanted to go alterior routes first. Did you get custom made orthotics?

The shots took a week for the pain to go away huh??I get mine on Monday and our first walking day at Disney is that Friday, hope I will be ok...With the second shot what do you mean it didn't work as well? I also have one of those socks, mine is called the Strassburg Sock I bought it at a local running, shoe store by me, but they also sell it on the internet, and actually cheaper, it does help, but I couldn't sleep all night with it on, so maybe a few hours at at time. I agree about the shoes that DEFINATELY helps. Congratulations on your pain free, hope one day I can say the same. Just curious do you have flat feet or a high arch???:thumbsup2

I did take tylanol and advil. Also the shapeup shoes really helped. I did take it really slow and stopped to rest quite often. Hope your shot helps more then mine did. Besides PT I'm going to go to a chiropractor to see if they can help too.
