Staying 6 nights in August with my children 19, 16 and 14. We are booked at Coronado Springs standard view but my daughter has offered to pitch in another $300 so we can switch to French quarter, which I know is a smaller resort. Should we stay with Coronado or go with PO french quarter? I know Coronado has an awesome pool but I actually prefer PO Riverside's Ol Man River and it's quiet Pools which we could walk to from French Quarter.

Sounds like you answered your own question lol.

Both are great options but go with what YOU like. You’ll be glad you did.

I walked from POFQ to POR for pool too. Maybe ask at check in for building closer to the side? Can’t hurt to ask.

I've heard some people on the disc boards say that PO French Quarter lacks that wow factor that Coronado has?

I wouldn’t take my daughters money. If you want to spend the extra cash, go for it. Do not take her money. All resorts are good. I would rather give you $300 than let your daughter pay for an upgrade.

I don't see an issue with this if her daughter offered. But that is really generous of you to offer to send her the $300. Please note, though, that we don't allow monetary transactions on the disboards.

I know a family that was going to stay at at offsite hotel, and their 11-year old daughter offered to pay the difference to upgrade to a Disney hotel. They did that and the daughter was very proud to have contributed (and Disney gave them another upgrade when they heard the story). It was really nice.

Another instance - On the first or second DIS Unplugged podcast cruise we found out that a 14-year old boy earned enough money baby-sitting that he paid for an entire cruise and treated his mom for Mother's Day. He was so proud and happy that he did that. He was in the college program last year at WDW, and I got to visit with him.

I say kudos to these parents that allow their children to make these responsible decisions. It's not something that my own kids did, but I've seen the positive effects of the kids that did do this. To each his own.

Back to the discussion. :)

Thank you for your reply. I actually felt like the worst parent on the planet for a moment until I shared this with my almost 20 year old daughter and she reminded me that if she wanted to chip in $300 for our $5500 trip, then she was going to.. I can't say what else she said but these trips are expensive. I have been saving for about 3 years; I know some people save even longer. I am divorced and I do in home nursing care for the elderly and they are all so excited for me and happy I finally can take my kids.
I do have to say that I don't care if we stay at Coronado or french quarter or even all star music where we stayed like 10 years ago, we will be at Disney. With the August heat and being from Minnesota, I thought the close proximity of the buildings to the main center and also the pool and bus stop would be helpful.
Anyways thank you for your extremely lighthearted reply.

I love both resorts, but not having to walk far for the bus would be great in the heat of August. Have a great trip!

Don't forget, Coronado has the four bus stops, so you're never really far from one;
You can use the buses as internal transportation;
The pool is better;
More restaurants;
And the view shouldn't matter unless you intend to spend time at the widow with the curtains open or in the open doorway (so other guests will see into your room), or leaning over the guardrail out on the walkway.

Being a fellow Minnesotan, I can understand your concern about the August heat and long walks in the resort. Given what you’ve explained, go for POFQ, as it sounds like a win, win for your family and a nice way for your daughter to contribute to your family’s vacation.

Enjoy your vacation and thanks for all you to to take care of our elderly population!

We much prefer Coronado Springs. Of the moderate resorts, CSR offers the most amenities and is the most "deluxe" in terms of feel and offerings. Its centrally located to all of the parks, and the four bus stops don't get quite as crowded as the one bus stop at POFQ does.

Although I love POFQ, I'd stick with CSR. I love the pool and the theme at CSR, and I definitely wouldn't pay more for POFQ.

Having stayed at both, I think either one is a good choice. If your daughter really wants to switch to POFQ and you know that you love the pools at Riverside, I'd go for that. You'll probably both be happy. We stayed at CSR a couple times (and really enjoyed it) before we tried FQ for the first time. We loved FQ. We loved how small it was. The food court was never super busy like at the other mods and we only shared buses with Riverside twice during the whole week. We stayed the last week of August if that is of any help, since you mentioned going in August. Have a great time no matter what you choose!

I think it's absolutely wonderful that your daughter wants to "upgrade" to POFQ. I say absolutely switch! She will feel like she helped treat the family to something special, and the trip will feel that much more meaningful.

There are so many pictures here on the boards, videos on youtube etc. I suggest showing the kids. See what everyone likes. I found my kids preferences changed with age and often surprised me.

I prefer CSR but that is because I love the southwest theme. I live upstate NY so I like the change.

However the coziness of POFQ is charming.
