Honestly, there's no going by reviews... It's your own personal preferrence.

Our family LOVED Pepper Market in September!! I found the staff to be attentive, very friendly, the food quick & fresh & tasty. And the chefs at each station were very accomodating! I was worried because I kept reading bad reviews - lol - but it was great!

On the other hand, I read a lot of good reviews for Spirit of Aloha. And we felt it was a waste of 2 TS credits!! The food was fine... but the show, well, it was cheesy and with 2 kids that were bored by it - I wish we had used the 2 TS credits elsewhere!!!

I agree! We ate there last month and were both very pleased with the meal and service.

Do the coffee pots in the guest rooms require filters or are they the basket type?

Just back from CSR and a typically wonderful trip to WDW.

This was my first time at a moderate resort so I wasn't expecting deluxe, but there were a few things that surprised me in a good way, and some others in a negative way. I'll break it down for you.

Positives first!
- The grounds of CSR are really lovely - first class and typical Disney
- Loved the pools (theme and quiet pools)
- There is a 24 hour gym and even a small spa
- Flat panel TV's, modern rooms, great beds
- Loved the sliding doors that separated the bathroom area
- Full room service - I think CSR is the only moderate that offers this?
- Great food options (I liked the Pepper Market)
- A nightclub (Rix) with full bar - not something that is typical of Disney
- Convenient parking
- Overall a very quiet resort and not overrun with too many people
- Didn't use Disney Transport this time but never had to wait for anything at the resort

Sorry, but there were some negatives too. :(
- CSR is hard to locate. Not as many street signs listing it as other resorts.
- You can't walk from CSR to anywhere (I knew this going in)
- The room buildings are not very "magical" and have little theming. They look like mid-range apartment buildings in Phoenix.
- Cast members didn't seem as friendly at CSR for some reason.
- We never got the great Disney greeting we usually get at other Disney resorts when we first pull up to check in. Mind you we arrived late (9pm)
- We requested building 9B and got 4 (Casitas) - no big deal. 3rd floor overlooking the quiet pool
- There was a huge spider and web at our room entrance (taking up about 1/4 of the doorway). Welcome! LOL
- On day 2 we left the room at about 10am and didn't return until 7pm. It was never cleaned or made up. We called mouse keeping. She wasn't very friendly and seemed put out we still wanted the room made up. We had dinner at Pepper Market and returned to the room and it was made up, but just the bare minimum. No towel animals or stuffed animal arrangements. Not very magical.
- The safe is very old fashioned and uses a key. Can't remember the last time I saw this!
- The shower curtain had some mold on it and there was hair on the floor by the tub. Other experiences at Disney had meant spotless rooms. Not this time.
- Overall I felt like I was staying in a generic motel rather than a Disney resort. I guess it was the outdoor hallways, little theming in the rooms, and that the room windows looked over the outdoor hallways. Also the fact that the room buildings looked like apartment buildings didn't help. The public areas of CSR were really lovely and themed nicely, it's just the room buildings that are very "standard".
- CSR is too spread out for me. I prefer the more compact resorts where there is a large main building (think Wilderness Lodge, Contemporary, Yacht Club, and even Polynesian & Grand Floridian) that includes rooms and everything is pretty much off that building (pools, restaurants, bus pick up, etc). CSR does have the main building, but the rest of the resort is VERY spread out. I understand this is more typical of the moderate and value resorts.

It may not sound like it, but I really did have a great time. Disney is magical no matter what, and being in the parks this time of year is really special. Everything is decorated beautifully for the holidays. We went to Epcot and the Magic Kingdom this trip, and even though it was Thanksgiving we didn't experience any excessive lines (except Soarin which we passed on). The MK was open until 1am and we stayed until closing and got on all the best rides with little to no wait.

Although CSR was a moderate resort, it still wasn't cheap. We could have stayed at the brand new Waldorf Astoria for the same price, but I choose CSR so we could enjoy that special Disney magic. I just didn't feel the magic like I have at other Disney resorts, and probably would have enjoyed the Waldorf just as much (if not more) even though it's not Disney. I haven't given up on the moderates, and perhaps next time would pick Riverside or Port Orleans as they look much more themed compared to CSR. They also have boat transport to Downtown Disney which I would enjoy. Better yet, I will likely wait until I can afford a deluxe resort as I've found they truly enhance my Disney experience!

If you have any questions, please let me know.

Thanks, Ernie for your thorough review. I like that you covered both the negatives and positives, never apologize for that! I'm always leery of reviews that are completely one-sided.

If you haven't already, feel free to check-out my Waldorf Astoria Orlando/Hilton Bonnet Creek thread here.

Ernie, thank you for your very detailed pros and cons. Moderates are not for everyone, but I'm glad you gave the CSR a try.

Oh, I thought she was asking for opinions.

Yes, she was. We all do! ;)

I certainly was not attacking your opinion. I'm sorry if that is what you thought!

I was just reminding her (and others), that no matter how many opinions/reviews you get, it boils down to personal preference. I only quoted another person with a positive review and yours with a negative view as examples.

Do the coffee pots in the guest rooms require filters or are they the basket type?

The coffee at the CSR comes in those "prepackaged filters". You would need the really small size filters for the coffee pots...they are onnly four cup coffee pots.

should I do on-line but then I really want to stay at Casitas (I put it on our reservation at the time I made the reservation and told them again when I put the finally payment).
I want to wait and fax the request tomorrow but then I saw a thread that fax request just get tossed away.
What would you do?

Yes, most resorts do throw out hte faxes. However, I have always been told at the CSR that they do look at them. We always send one five days before our trip.

Hard to believe- I will be doing online check-in tomorrow!

I can't believe you are doing online check-in already. Where did that time go? I bet you wish those ten days would hurry up and get over. :)

Hi! Does anyone know if all buildings have connecting rooms?
Thanks!

Here are some pics from our trip back in February! We stayed in the Ranchos section.

Oh my goodness, I think this is my FAV CSR entrance picture so far. It looks so pretty, can't wait until we get there for our surprise trip for the kids.:cool1:

Our ressie is for check in on 12/6. But, I've been trying to add the 5th for about 6 weeks...we want to come in the day before. I've checked online at least once a day and sometimes I even call, just hoping I'll get lucky by phone! We have an AP rate w/ DxDP, but at this point, I'd pay rack rate for one night. What amazes me is that the entire hotel is booked!?! I know that Pop Warner invades the Value resorts that week, but could they be spilling over into CSR? :scared1: I thought they usually overflowed to POFQ if Values were booked.

We are park warriors and spend VERY little time in our room. CSR is our resort of choice, our fave of the mods. But, I am a little nervous that the hotel appears to be full. Does anyone know of any big conferences scheduled at CSR that week? I think there is a dental conference scheduled at BC, but anything at CSR?

DH thinks we should just drive down on the 5th and see if we can check in early, like if we are standing there in front of them a room will be open that is not showing up now as an advanced reservation! Any opinions about that plan? I guess the worst thing that could happen is they say no and we have to go off site for the night.

Thoughts, suggestions, recommendations anyone? Hope this is the right place for this post...

On a side note...can't wait to be in the World in less than a week!!! :yay:

while I'm nopt an expert on CSR at this late date I doubt a room is available....are you trying to book for 1 night (the 5ht) or chAange your current to include the 5th? have you considered staying one night off site...
and from what I have heard Pop Warner is at POR this year and the overflow ??
I don't think being there (standing in front of them would make much difference) I have seen them turn people away during busy dates
