I would just like to point out a great video of the CSR that has been posted on Youtube by the folks over at Allearsnet. It is quite a lengthy video, but it contains footage of almost everything you might want to see at the resort.

Warning, for those who are fans of the CSR already, you may get homesick! :)

That is a great video! And yes I am homesick :sad1:.

DaniB,

Thanks for the informative trip report. Was it pleasant eating outside at the Pepper Market or did you feel too hot? I wondered how it was since you are from Canada and I am assuming not used to such warm weather. My kids have never been in such humidity but being kids, they probably won't notice it as much as the adults will!

I loved the weather! And eating outside (by the lake) at Pepper Market was really nice. The only reason we did not eat outside more was because it was a pain trying to get everything to go with the kids. If the kids were older (or not with us), we would have ate outside almost everytime.

Surprisingly I didn't find the heat as bad as I was expecting. But then I like hot weather, while my husband prefers cooler weather. I have a like/hate relationship with air conditioning. It can be nice, and sometimes I really want A/C - but too much exposure to it makes me sick...

Ohh, and it never rained a drop the entire 10 days we were there!

Only once did the hot weather shock & bother me. Waiting at Jedi Training for the 1st show (my son was in it) and during that show! I NEVER had sweat run down my legs before... Sorry - I know that sounds gross. There was just no air flow in that area! Once we left the area, I was fine in the rest of Hollywood Studios.

Great reply, Dani B! We have requested Cabanas 8A for our upcoming trip, as we want to be close to the Dig Site for our three year old. I also don't quite "get" all the complaints about how big the resort is. It didn't seem that big (we were in Casitas 4 last year) and we never walked for more than five minutes to get anywhere. We also thought the bus service was fantastic!

We're looking to book for next fall for free dining. Has it been determined what area you may get if you book "preferred location" which say it's closer to the convention center and El Centro?

I think we want to request Cabanas 9B (because I like the idea of taking that last bus stop that is at El Centro) but I wonder if I need to/should book "preferred" to get this?

Thanks for the quick replys on my question! :goodvibes I guess the best way to avoid the extra 10% is to request the food to go as stated on the first page of this thread. We rarely order food as a sit down anyway, my dd usually just wants her mug refilled then a muffin to take back to the room. :)
I just changed our reservation and booked CSR! I am sooo excited!! We have only stayed at WL (as you can see by my signature) and were wanting a change for this trip. I booked AKL first, but was having a hard time getting excited about it for some reason. Plus with no discounts offered for June yet I can't stomach the $4600 that AKL was going to cost. I've heard nothing but good things about CSR and think I made the right choice. I can't wait to make my way through this thread! :goodvibes
I guess my main concerns going from deluxe to mod are transportation. At WL we most always took the boat, either to MK or CR to hop on the monorail. Only having the buses to rely on is a bit of a concern, I know that sounds crazy. Any tips you have to share are appreciated!! :thumbsup2

Not yet. We are speculating casitas 1,2 and 3, and maybe some or all of the cabanas due to proximity to the Dig Site. Disney hasn't officially announced which buildings will be preferred.

Welcome to the thread! :cool1: We have stayed at AKL and enjoyed it, but CSR is a much better value with more comfortable beds and much better transportation. We do go to AKL each trip to eat and look at the animals, but I didn't think it was worth the premium to stay there, especially when we are in the parks all day.

Just a reminder - this thread will be locked at 250 pages. Kathy is still on vacation and will start the new FAQ once she gets back and recovers from her trip. The temporary thread is located here, but let's finish this one out first. I'll keep an eye on the temp thread in case anyone posts over there and will try to bump it up once this one gets locked.

Thanks, everyone! :goodvibes

We just returned (Monday) from our 12 night stay at CSR. We weren't sure how we would like staying here after calling POR home for so long. We did like the beds and the resort was beatiful. We had a hard time finding our room at first then we got the hang of it- at the end...:lmao:
We were in Casistas 5 and used bus stop 2 which was first on and off. We loved the buses here compared to POR.
Pepper Market was good as well. We ate lunch there 3 times and we didn't get charged the 10% but we used our dining plan. We did carry some cash for tips but we only tipped once because the servers weren't that great!
I would be glad to answer any questions for anyone if you have any. I will do my best to pass on info!!!
We already booked a trip for next Sept and we are staying at CSR!!

We just got back from BWV a couple of weeks ago. I was SHOCKED by how empty the parks were (our first trip in September). This is the only way to go for us now for awhile.

Next year, DD will be 10 so we booked CSR and FREE DINING for 10 DAYS!!! I can't wait 'cause I've always wanted to stay at CSR. Can't wait for info about which locations are preferred since we are cheaping it with standard rooms. We are requesting buildings 3, 4, or 5; to be close to bus #2 and El Centro. My DD is hypoglycemic and close to food is more important than close to the Dig Site. Let me know if you have better building suggestions.

We booked a few weeks ago for March , and I was told that the preferred locations were located in the Castias section. (Not sure if I spelled that right.) We requested the Cabanas though.

First, I want to thank each and everyone of you for taking such good care of this thread while I'm away (yes, we are still on vacation...we are still on Marco Island and arrive home late on Tuesday evening).

I can't answer everyone, but it looks as if ALL questions have been answered, etc.

We just returned from a 9 night stay at CSR. I can see why it's a favorite of many!

Here's my review from the beginning. We used ME from MCO, and stopped at the All Stars before CSR. CSR was the last stop for the ME bus.

We did online check-in and walked right up to the counter. We were at CSR before 10:00 AM, and our room was ready. The cm was friendly and gave dd a b-day button. We were assigned a room in Cabanas 8B, which was perfect for us! We were very close to Bus Stop 4, and were close to both the Dig Site and the laundry room. It wasn't too far a walk to El Centro.

The resort itself is beautiful! I will post photos later. I didn't download our photos yet.

My kids really enjoyed the Dig Site and the pool there. One afternoon, dd participated in games for kids. They had a balloon toss contest and a hoola hoop contest. She had a lot of fun!

We ate at Pepper Market twice. I do perfer a traditional food court where you pick your own seat and get your own drinks. The food itself was OK. We were on the DDP, so I had to be sure to have some cash for a tip when we ate there.

The room was nicely done, and the queen beds were so much better than the double beds at other resorts! The mattress was comfortable. The flat screen TVs were nice, but the storage area in the dresser wasn't too good for a long stay. If my dh were with us, one of us would have been living out of a suitcase. I missed having hooks on the wall. We use those hooks a lot for water bottle holders and pin lanyards. I know CSR is a convention resort and that's why there is a desk and chair instead of a table with 2 chairs, but we prefer a table with 2 chairs. Our shower curtain didn't seem wide enough, and we had issues with getting the shower head to operate well. Otherwise, the curved shower curtain was nice to have and provided a lot of room in the shower.

We could hear toilets flushing loudly at all hours, but until our last 2 nights when a noisy family moved in next door we didn't hear any outside noise. Neighbors can make or break a resort stay at any resort, and I was glad this crew was next to us for only 2 nights instead of the other 7. Overall, the resort has a nice and quiet atmosphere. I enjoyed coming "home" to relax at CSR after a day in the parks.

Our mousekeeper was OK overall. Not perfect (there were some hairs in the bathroom, but I don't let that ruin the trip), but our room was basically clean. No towel animals, but that's fine. As long as the room is clean, we're good.

With the exception of 2 times (DTD and an Epcot bus), we rarely waited more than 10 minutes for a bus. We had to stand only twice, and most times the buses were half empty. Twice we had private bus rides! The bus service was good! I really like the system they have of having the buses stop in the same order all of the time so you can take a bus to El Centro if you like.

Overall, although I liked CSR a lot and it does have a deluxe feel to it, I'm still a #1 POR fan. I prefer the atmosphere, food court, boat to DTD, the River Roost, and the shady areas at POR over CSR, though we are happy we gave CSR a try and did enjoy our stay there. I would not hesitate to recommend CSR to friends. It is a beautiful resort!

I had the pleasure of meeting Kathy and Mark in person at the Dig Site. Kathy is every bit as nice in person as she is here on the forums, and it was so nice to meet her IRL!

Thank you for your review. I'm so glad that you enjoyed your stay at the CSR. Mark and I enjoyed meeting you as well (and seeing you at the parade too!).

Our family of 4 just returned from a 9 night stay at CSR. We loved this resort & so glad I choose it for our stay!

This is a tad on the long side… wry grin. Forgive me – first trip report!

I found the airport confusing as it was my first flight, but we managed to find ME and had a short wait. CSR was the very first stop! We arrived just as the Donald Duck short clips started on the TV to my son’s dismay. ;)

We arrived about 12:30pm. I had done the on-line check-in and faxed in a resort request earlier. No waiting in line, and our room was ready. We received Cabanas 8A, which is what I wanted!! :cool1:

We were in a corner room (#8127) and it was quiet! Never heard our neighbours. Never heard any noise outside. The bus stop was literally around the corner from us, a hamock outside our pathway, and the Dig Site an easy walk. The laundry room was only 2 or 3 pathways down from us. I would love this spot again! :worship:

Ohh, and my husband found baby turtles (about 1” in length) on one of the pathways one morning. I’m sad to report I never ever saw an alligator… But I’m happy to say I never saw a spider or snake!

Our room was clean, the fridge was COLD, and we had plenty of storage space. We did the whole bed bug check and turned up nothing. :woohoo: My husband & I discussed it and we “moved in”. Unpacked our suitcases completely, used all the drawers, hangers, nighttable, counter space, etc…

Queen beds were great and better than our king bed at home. My back never hurt sleeping on them! Yes, it does at home and our mattress is only 2 years old this winter. :sad2:

Housekeeping was great. No animal towels but she would move the stuffies around every day. Kids liked that. Fresh dry towels every day.

And I loved that we could adjust our air conditioning! Now I’m sure most people try to adjust it so their room is colder, but we actually had to warm up our room! We are not used to the constant switch of hot air, cold air, hot air, cold air and our sinuses quickly ran into trouble!

Honestly, I don’t understand the complaining I read about the walking. We walked back & forth (usually over the 2 bridges as we loved the view) to the Pepper Market, Guest Services, Café Rix, and Gift Shop several times and never found it a long walk. Heck, our first evening there I forgot the bus would continue around to bus stop #4, got off at #1 (returning from Downtown Disney) and walked back our room.

The kids especially loved the Dig Site and pool. My 6 year old son was thrilled to find a ping-pong / tennis table there. It seemed to make his stay. He woke up one morning at 5:30am and insisted daddy take him there to play…

We ate at Pepper Market many times. 5 breakfasts, 2 lunches, and 2 dinners. We found the food to be plentiful and tasty. I had no complaints until our last dinner there (but not our last meal). The kids ordered burgers and my daughter had finished her burger almost completely when I discovered it was almost raw!!! :headache: Ok, “medium rare” the chef/cook called it but here in Canada restaurants serve only fully cooked burgers. It never occurred to me it could be otherwise in the States… lesson learned… I was so upset I was almost in tears. Apparently the chef/cook was suppose to ask how I wanted the burgers cooked but did not. The chef/cook removed my kids meals from our “meal card”, and prepared a plate of nuggets for my son while I took his burger away from him. The server reported the situtation to the manager who came out to talk to me, and try to re-assure me their ground beef is high quality and not to worry about e-coli. If you order a burger in Disney and like it fully cooked – make it known when you order it!

We did continue to eat at the Pepper Market after this issue, but no more burgers...

Chef Matt… I’m not sure if they are called Chefs, but anyways – Chef Matt was amazing! He served my kids twice while we were there and was just wonderful to them! I had hoped to see him in the last couple of days to thank him but didn’t. I’m going to write a thank-you to him and to Disney. :goodvibes (I just found a photo of him & his co-worker my daughter must have taken. I can print this out, write on the back and send it in - perfect!)

BTW, we were on the free dining plan and never paid a 10% service charge. I left tips on the table when we ate in, and sometimes took some meals to go and ate at the tables outside.

Buses – loved the buses! We took them every day and only 3 times did we have to stand. And perhaps because my husband grew up in Toronto and I lived there for 10 years, I never found standing on the bus an issue either. The buses were quick to pick us up, and quick to the parks. I found getting from CSR to Downtown Disney a LONG bus ride however. If we go back to Disney, we’ll take the buses again!

There was also a very very nice lady in the CSR’s gift shop. I thought I would remember her name and I’m sad I cannot… I know it starts with an E anyways... Our arrival day she found it was our first trip there and gave the kids a trading pin each. Then the Manager gave us all another trading pin each (we kept these). She also gave my son a bunch of MM stickers and told him to keep ½ but give away the other ½ to other kids. Before I had a chance to warn my daughter, she put her 2 pins down while looking at the “build-your-own bracelet / necklaces” and they were gone within a minute! She started crying because her new Jasmine pin was lost. The Manager (I did not realize he was the Manager at the time) asked me what room we were in, and I could NOT tell him! I had forgotten to note what room we were in before leaving! He looked up our reservations and told me. Then, about 10 minutes later, just as we were about to leave the gift shop, he called out to us and had the same Jasmine pin for my daughter that was taken! Again, another thank you note I need to write once the kids are in school on Monday. :goodvibes

Kathy & Mark -->> it was very nice meeting you that morning! I hope you got your FPs for TSM. :flower3:

I’m sorry I never got to meet anyone else from DIS at CSR or at the parks. I looked, but never saw a LGMH!

My regrets --->> I regret that I never did walk completely around the lake once like I wanted… or read a book in the hamock… or used the hot tub… or swam in the pool more than once. For the last two, I had gotten sort of sick during the middle of trip and did not want to “catch a chill” while wet and get worse.

Thanks for your great review. I am thrilled that you enjoyed your stay at the CSR. And we enjoyed visiting with you as well. And, yes, we did get our Fast Passes for TSM and rode it twice. I hope you were able to find some medicine in the gift shop.

Can't wait to hear about Kathy's trip! December is still too far off.

I will post a link on either this thread of the "temporary" one when I do my trip report for anyone who wants to join. December will be here before you know it.

Enjoy the rest of your vacation, Kathy & Mark!

I'm missing Disney & CSR already. I took a walk around the neighborhood at home tonight and was wishing I was walking around the lake.

I realize that this has probably been asked, but DH asked me this for a quick answer and I didn't have one for him. So here goes, Do they have refillable mugs at CSR and if so are they the regular Disney ones, or are they resort specific?

Then I have another question: Are they making some of the rooms at CSR preferred for 2011? If not, how often are requests for specific buildings given? We usually stay at CBR and have always been given our building request, so we are debating a change and are really curious. Thanks in advance.

The mugs are the same as everywhere else (this changed around July 2009 due to a lot of complaints). As of January 2011, you can book a preferred room at the CSR; however, at this time, it has not been confirmed which buildings will be "preferred."

Ok, so know if we request a room in Casitas, how likely are we to get it and only book a standard view? I'm essentially trying to not book Preferred if possible and save a few $$.

From what I was told when we were there last weekend (we are still in Marco), there guess is that Casitas 1, 2 and possibly 3 and Cabanas 8A and 8B would be "preferred." This would leave Casitas 4 and 5, all of the Ranchos and Cabanas 9A and 9B as NOT preferred.
