We seem to always have it for Super Bowl Sunday and St. Patrick's Day. Except I am the only one that will eat the cabbage though.

We did it once, but thankfully never again. I'm about 50% Irish, and I wasn't a fan.
It is one of the only "irish" meals I like. My grandma used to make finan haddie yuk! mashed potatoes with creamed salt cod and peas... :crazy2:

I usually make it about a week later. You know when the store has marked it way down because they have to much stock. Beside its a friday this year so no corned beef here.

Deanna :bored: :cat:

My dd bday is the day after St. Pats day, so I make it every year for her family party since her 1st bday (she is going to be 13). :thumbsup2

Yes we do, but we have it on the nearest Sunday so the entire family can gather at our house for it. We also have beer as the beverage.

We have it every year. DH loves it, I hate it.
DH hates Corned beef, but loves the Cabbage. So, I usually get the corned beef from the deli, sliced, and heat it up with the cabbage. That way, I don't waste any. :thumbsup2 And I don't have to boil the Corned beef for hours!

Yes, and Marie makes a great corned beef. Here is an idea I posted a couple weeks back on a similar thread.................

A tip we learned some years back (works for turkey also, as that meat can fall apart too). First, get a house brick of some sort, somewhere (Home Depot works fine) and wrap it in foil. Yes, a brick. :)

Cook a day ahead, any of the ways above are fine. For the corned beef (this part not for turkey), cool some, then cover with foil, and put the foil wrapped brick on it and put in cool/cold place overnight, refrigerator, garage (if cold winter weather). The weight of the brick and cooling will compress the meat some and make it much less stringy. Next day, unwrap and slice cold, slicing is a joy, so much easier than when hot. Then take the slices and reheat some in the oven (Marie uses some of the juice from the cabbage to give great flavor and moisten a bit.

As for the turkey, all the same except no brick. Cook a day early, chill overnight, slice cold the next day, reheat, use some of the juices from the previous cooking.

We have this every St. Pats day! DH's mom was 100% Irish!

I make it in the crock pot, with potatoes and carrots. We enjoy it around St. Patricks day every year.

I look forward to making it every year! Yummy!

:scared: Oh my! Now thats one meal I think I could skip even thinking about.

I love cornbeef and cabbage, however, I am the only one in my house that eats it. So the only time I get it is when I visit my mom and she cooks it. I can't see cooking it if I were the only one to eat it.

I miss the corned beef, cabbage and the lil red potatoes!! My grandma and great aunt 100% Irish, loved makign those st patty's dinners for my sister and I and grampa too. I miss those dinners, but I miss them most
Stacie

I don't cook it, but I like eating it.

I voted no, even though we love corned beef. I make it, and generally make it several times in the vicinity of St. Patricks day - but it never seems to work out that I make it ON that day. We're not really into the holiday so I just make it when it's convenient.

I love the corned beef but don't eat the cabbage. I make about 40 lbs of corned beef (cabbage, red potatoes and carrots too) every year and have a party. The party all started because friends of our always went to a greek restaurant on St. Patty's day for corned beef and cabbage. When I heard that I had to laugh :rotfl2: You don't go to a greek restaurant for irish food. Anyway, I volunteered to make it the right way and now we have 15-20 families over every year. We also make grasshopper milkshakes (creme de mint----yummy yummy) for the adults and chocolate chip mint shakes for the kids---because they're green of course. Can't forget the green beer too. I
can't wait until Friday :cool1: :cool1:

My kids are 50% Irish and 50% Italian. I found a shirt for them that says "half gaelic half garlic". They love it :teeth:

Every year my Dad always had his family and friends over the weekend before as a St. Patrick's Day celebration and a birthday party (his b-day is the 16th). Corned beef is actualy dad's favorite. This year he had dental work and he's not up for the party. FH and myself are taking over, I am honored to take over this family tradition. We are making it the day after St. Patrick's Day. We aren't having corned beef on the day of St. Patrick's Day because it's a friday during Lent and we can't have meat on Friday. I am very excited and I can't wait for this weekend! :shamrock:

I'm not a corn beef fan. My mom was born in Ireland, but she never made it for us because my dad didn't like it. It's funny, the bishop in Pittsburgh goes out of his way to remind people not to eat meat on Fridays in lent, including St Patrick's Day, but at the church my mom goes to in Florida, they are having a cornbeef dinner at the church on that Friday! And I believe the bishop in Cleveland always tells them they can eat meat on St Pat's.
