Corelle dishes?

I'm thinking about getting new kitchen dishes.

I like that Corelle dishes take up very little room in the cabinet.

Does anyone really love or hate their kitchen dishes?

Any words of wisdom on picking a small pattern or large, colorful pattern that's covers almost the entire plate?

How well do the plates that are square and not round fit in the dishwasher?

TIA

I have the just plain white Correll dishes and love them. They survived a totally destroyed house in Katrina, what more can I say! :thumbsup2

I have had these dishes for many years and I LOVE THEM!!!!! They are lightweight but so durable.I have raised 2 children using them. I have dropped them over and over and they don't break. I have a set in our camper and one in the house. I don't like heavy dishes and these are perfect.

I love my Corelle!

I started out liking one pattern, and then started liking more of them too.

Eventually, I decided to just hit thrift stores and start buying ANY pattern that I liked.

My main pattern is Spring Blossom Green (aka : Crazy Daisy), but I am always on the lookout for more.

I love the way the plates stack so uniformly, and yes, don't take up a lot of space.

I love my Corelle dishes. I have several sets, some are 22 years old. They are light, don't take up a lot of cabinet space and are extremely durable. They have taken years of being dropped and banged together without a chip. All of mine are round so I don't know about the square ones. My Corelle casserole dishes have also withstood the test of time and still look new!

I love Correlle dishes! I have mine for over 25 years & they have survived 2 children. They don't take up much room & are lightweight. :thumbsup2

I have used Corelle for 30+ years. They are so sturdy and lightweight, and so inexpensive that you can swap out when you get tired of the pattern. My mom still has some from when I was a kid 40+ years ago, and I have six siblings so they really got a workout.
I will say, though, that when they do break they shatter in to a million little shards and pieces.

Another person who loves her Corelle! I have had their dishes/bowls, etc for 20 years now and the set still looks like I bought it yesterday. I have an offwhite color and it still looks great.

Love love love my Corelle dishes!!! I am on my second set, in the last 23 years, only because I got tired of the pattern.
On the pattern, honestly, I say a pattern around the edges only, my medium size plates have the pattern all over, and it makes a slightly fingernails on a chalkboard sound, when you cut with a knife on it, or scrape your fork over it.

I, too, love my corelle. Just got a new set at a yard sale for a whopping $5! My old set is about 24 years old already. A word of warning as a pp said... once in a blue moon a dropped piece hits the floor just ... wrong..... and it truly shatters into thousands and thousands of eeeny weeny pieces. Clean up requires a vacuum first then very careful wiping the surface with wet paper towels.... But in my house that has happened twice in over 20 years, with 2 kids and a clumsy husband. :lmao:

I have my grandmother's set from the 70s! It's a golden flower pattern. They used it to take when they spent winter in Texas so it wasn't used too much.

I love them!

I love my Corelle dishes I bought a couple of sets 30 years ago but they discontinued the pattern. When I got married I switched to Pfaltzgraff but again they discontinued the patterned. I have now broken a number of the Pfaltzgraff dishes and decided to switch back to Corelle (lighter and better in the microwave). This time I went with the winter white - don't think they will discontinue those, and I just change out my linens when I want variety. We also picked up a number of mismatched pieces of Corelle from the thrift stores for my son last year when he moved out. They are very hard to break and even the 30 year old ones do not show any signs of wear or scratches.

We have a large set of the plain white ones. I prefer that as it goes with any decor you have and any linens you may use.

I also have ones from the 70's that were my moms and they are still in perfect condition.

Another fan here. Mine are 26 years old and except for the 2 that exploded into a billion pieces when my husband set them on the stove and turned on the wrong burner all are still intact.

Use them with a wire plate rack and you can get 12 place settings onto a single 10 inch wide cabinet shelf!

The one issue that I have with them is that every so often I need to run a sponge with scouring powder around the edges of the plates. This is needed because the edge is so thin that the dishwasher isn't always effective in cleaning it properly.

I have had a square set for about 2 years and love them. So problems with the dishwasher and I boought them because they are square; so nice to have plates in a different shape from round.

I bought myself some Corelle last year after hearing my MIL rave about hers for 20+ years, and I love it. They fit great in my dishwasher and my cabinet, and I like that they are lightweight.

However, they ARE breakable. We have them where I work, and last year I dropped one of the dinner plates and it shattered when it hit the linoleum floor. And we recently learned that if someone throws them like a frisbee into the refrigerator they will break in that situation, too. :sad2:

When we got married, we picked out a Lenox stoneware pattern for our dishes. Someone gave us a set of plain white (round) Corelle dishes as a shower gift, which I didn't think I'd like, but it was fine for our little starter apartment.

We still have pieces almost 25 years and four houses later, plus added the big bowls/platters and replaced the few broken pieces. They're so light and durable - I often use the plates or platter as a cutting board because it's easy to clean. Just watch the edges as the dishes age - I've noticed some sharp spots on my original pieces.

This is silly, but we bought the cat two small bowls with a green rim. We wash them in the dishwasher so the cat always has clean dishes, too.

I don't like the Corelle mugs - they get red-hot when you fill them up for tea. Too hot to handle so we stick with ceramic mugs instead. On the same note, I always let the dishes cool before I put them away. I had one break in the cabinet at eye level when I put it away. It was sharp and hot, so I wait before unloading the dishwasher now.

I've had a few pieces break and the shards are really sharp, like needles. The pieces just seem to explode when they break! Definitely not safety glass.

To clean up broken Corelle, use the dustpan/broom and vacuum, but I like to run a sticky-tape lint roller over the floor/countertop as well. It always picks up a few little splinters that everything else missed. (I wouldn't recommend the masking tape-over-hand method; you could get cut. The roller is much safer.) I do the same for broken drinking glasses. Since I don't wear shoes inside, it's better to spend 10 minutes with a lint roller than finding the shards with my foot!

I guess I'm a lone wolf here, but I hated my Corelle set. I liked the different patterns of them, but that was about it. For me they weren't durable at all and as others have said, when they break it is into a million little pieces making clean up really difficult. My husbands and kids were always breaking them. I got rid of them and got a set of Firenza from JcPenney to replace them. They're heavy and yes, they take up more room in the cupboard, but when they break there are 3 or 4 big pieces to clean up and that's it. Plus because they're heavier my family is more careful with them. And we feel like we're using the "good china" at meals because they look nicer.
