Copyright Question

Hello - I am relatively new to this board and have a question about copyrights. I am planning to use some journal pages as a FE exchange gift for my next Disney cruise. I, of course will be giving credit to the DISigners who created the journal pages. I was hoping to have copies of the pages printed through a local printer so as to improve the quality of the pages over what I can print at home. My local printer is thinking they cannot print the copies for me because of Disney copyright. I obviously do not want to violate any laws either. It was my understanding that using these images would be okay since I would not be selling my homemade journals to anyone, just giving them as gifts. Can anyone confirm this and point me in the direction of something official I could take to the printer? Thanks!!

Most copy shops will not print Disney images as they are trademarked images and you cannot profit from the sale of these images. So in other words they can't print them because they would be profiting by charging you for copying a Disney image. There is no documentation that you can take to a printer that will allow them to print the images as they are legally not supposed to copy a trademark image. Sorry.

From my understanding you can use images that you find online for personal use only as long as you are not profiting from the design, but that means you have to print them and/or make the item yourself.

Occasionally you will find a copy shop or employee that will copy Disney images as they don't know the rules about copying trademarked images. You will also find things on ebay and etsy with Disney images, but most of them are being sold illegally. Unless they paid Disney directly for the use of the image, which most do not. That is why all of the DISigners you find on the Boards make all of the wonderful things for others to use for free.

Hope that helps.

Thanks! I hadn't thought that through that the printer would be profiting (duh!) :) Guess I will have to come up with plan b to make the printouts on my home computer! Thanks again for your help!

Even though copy shops typically will not copy Disney images, they will bind things that you print like journals, epcot passports, etc.

Dolly's right, you might take a digital copy to a few places and see if they will. Most of us have done this, and have had some success. Also, anywhere you upload things to, generally don't pay attention to what they're printing, only that they have to size it and hit the button.

Good luck! :goodvibes

I print my own at home, and take them to my local Kinkos to have them spiral bound. They have never made any comment about the images being copyrighted. I'm guessing since they didn't print them, they are okay with it. I make a couple a week, so I've dealt with just about every staff member there. I'm sure its just a printing issue.
