We just bought a small collapsible cooler with wheels to put our lunch in while at WDW. I've heard of them not letting these in? will ANY cooler with wheels be turned away? It is surely collapsible, and small enough for a locker :(

Can you carry it, instead of wheeling it? The wheels can be on the cooler (at least, I've seen them on backpacks) but you can't physically wheel the thing through the park. Or, you could just break the wheels off, and problem solved.

Just curious, but what do you need a big cooler for? WDW does not allow food into the parks, except for medical situations and baby food. They don't take it from you, but it is their stated policy.

EVERYONE takes some kind of food into the parks. Yes, they say that it is not permitted, but they never turn you away. Ive even had a CM say (when doing the bag check) "boy can I hang out with you today-great snacks!". Some people choose to take lunches in, but for us it is too much to keep up with.
Schmeck shouldnt try and make you feel bad for doing it. Everyone brings in food.

Where does it say that food is not allowed in the park? It used to say it on the map but I haven't seen it there in a long time. Disney can only expect its guests to follow rules that are clearly noted (somewhere that regular guests will notice) and that are given and enforced by their cast members. I've seen CMs clearly tell guests that food was fine as long as their was no alcohol and no glass containers. If this is what the CMs are saying how are guest suposed to know (if it is even a rule anymore) that food is not allowed?

This is from Disney's website:

Q. Are there any personal items I should not bring with me into the Theme Parks?

A. Items that you may not bring into the Theme Parks include, but are not limited to:

Items with wheels, such as wagons, skateboards, scooters, inline skates, shoes with built-in wheels, two-wheeled or three-wheeled conveyances, strollers larger than 36" x 52", suitcases, coolers, or backpacks with or without wheels larger than 24" long x 15" wide x 18" high (coolers required for medication may be stored in a locker or at Guest Relations), and any trailer-like object that is pushed or towed by an ECV wheelchair or stroller
Alcoholic beverages
Weapons of any kind
Folding chairs
Glass containers (excluding baby food jars and perfume bottles)
Pets (unless they are service animals)
In Disney's Animal Kingdom® Theme Park (for the safety of the wildlife), balloons, straws and drink lids are not permitted.

It doesn't say food is prohibited, so I would think that would be fine, but it does state that you can't have items with wheels.

Someone recently posted before the link that said (from WDW) that "snacks" were permitted, just not glass as posted above (or alcohol for that matter). I know hard sided coolers aren't permitted, but if you're carrying the softsided one through security, even with wheels, I doubt they'd even question it. If you're pulling it through the park they might - kind of like heeley's - odds are they wouldn't, but they might ask you to carry it instead.

We usually just take a can of corn in with us.(sorry old joke) We take snacks in with us, not a rolling cooler though. I did however see someone pulling a big rolling igloo cooler in at Typhoon Lagoon last year..

The stated policy is irrelevant. People are allowed to bring food into the park and do so on a daily basis(as long as it fits into a backpack or small soft sided cooler).

[QUOTE Everyone brings in food.[/QUOTE]

We didn't either! When on the DDP we didn't need to bring extra snacks/food. But we didn't when there was no DDP. We took the powder drink mixes to add to water and that was it. But at the Water Parks they do allow you to bring in coolers of any kind and have a picnic lunch.

:sad2:
so any stated policy is irrelevant as long as more than one person does what he feels like doing? (I don't know about the true policy on food, but the way people on the board take things I'd be careful saying don't worry about policy, do what you want.)

I wasn't talking about ANY policy, just this one.:rolleyes1

Didn't you hear? If you pay for a vacation there you are entitled to pick and choose which policies are relevant to you! It's part of the Dream Celebration. ;)

Can you show me where you're finding this? I'm only finding what Pacha quoted which was no glass and no alcoholic beverages. I know on my last trip in 2005 the guide they gave me at our Disney resort had FAQ's in the back and specifically said that "snacks" were permitted. Before we all start accusing people of breaking "stated policies", can we verify this policy somewhere because I just searched the website and can't find it?

. . . EVERYONE takes some kind of food into the parks . .

1) Not "everyone".
2) We do not take food into the parks.
3) I would not cheat WDW out of their chance to sell me food/drink.
4) I figure if I can't afford to eat, I can't afford to go.

well, we are a family that does not share drinks at McDs and never share salad bar desserts etc. HOWEVER

that said, I am an insulin dependant diabetic Mom to 6 kids. I spend tons of money in each park every day I am there on food and every other imaginable item  HOWEVER

I also have never been without a stroller and one or two kiddos with sippy cups and snacks, LOTS OF SNACKS.

I do not think we could make it throuh the day without those snacks to calm the kiddos and tide them over. HOWEVER

the older ones in our party eat on those snacks and drink boxes/water bottles too. HOWEVER

I do not feel I am cheating the Disney out of anything and if I was I would expect them to forbid me or tell me of a rule I am breaking.

I can not find such a rule and believe me,my prohibitive consciense has made me look more than once.

so. I definitely don't take a wheeled cooler which I believe was the original question unless you count a stroller as a cooler? :rotfl2:

oh my yes, and I forgot to say. . .I can afford to be there. . .

but I would not think I was being wise financially if I was buying 6 water bottles every couple of hours (which they need in the Florida heat as we are not used to that temp or humidity all day long) at the going Disney rate!

Sigh.

It's not about affording to eat. It's about animal crackers for the kids. Or a granola bar for mom. Or whatever. Get off your horse.

Quoting directly from "Your Handy Guide to All the Magic" (which is given to resort guests by Disney, upon check-in), in the FAQ's:

"Q: What can I take into the Parks with me?"

"A: You can bring your typical sunscreen, snacks and non-alcoholic beverages along. Just be mindful that all packages, parcels, handbags, backpacks and the like may be inspected at the Park entrances. So you may want to leave any unnecessary articles behind. Thanks for your cooperation!"

So, yes, WDW does officially state that you can bring in 'snacks and beverages'.

However, as has already been pointed out, it is clearly against the rules to bring coolers with wheels into the four major theme parks. Small, soft sided coolers are permitted to be carried (or tucked into a stroller). The only place larger coolers are permitted (and where you are welcome to bring in a picnic lunch if you so desire), is at the Water Parks.
