Ok, I've been trying all the big name donuts lately, and I enjoy all of them. I've made up my mind on which coffee I like best (Timmy Ho's), but am having a hard time deciding on a favorite donut. Help convince me.....

Don't want Frank to get too big of an ego but when it comes to "good ole glazed" I don't think you can beat K.K.. J.M.H.O.

Krispy Kreme cinnamon bun. Second best donut on the planet.

The best? Britt's Donuts on the boardwalk at Carolina Beach. If anyone's been there, they'll most likely agree. I can remember being sent down there as a kid early in the morning for the family's vacation breakfast. It was a must every morning while on vacation.

We've only got Dunkin' Donuts here..so I can't really compare. Blueberry Cake is my favorite.

That being said, nothing compares to a real bakery jelly doughnut. Yum. :thumbsup2

I never really liked doughnuts, but when I was a kid, the chocolate-glazed from Anderson's on Coronado was my all-time favorite! I didn't eat doughnuts for years (especially after it closed), but then I discovered the double-glazed doughnuts at NY delis. I can't find those anymore now, either. I read an article in Smithsonian Magazine (10 years ago?) about a Krispy Kreme Ring King doughnut machine being added to the collection and knew I'd have do try something so iconic that the machine that makes it is in the Smithsonian. Nothing beats a Hot Now Original Glazed Krispy Kreme doughnut, but the chocolate glazed is a very close second.

Best doughnuts in Michigan come from Sweetwater Donut Mills. The cinn and sugar doughnuts are amazing!!!

Pete's oven on Midland in Waterford MI....... hands down the best donuts around.

Speaking of donuts, do Mister Donut stores still exist? When hubby and I were dating, we went to visit a friend of his in WV. On the way home in the (very early) morning, we stopped at a MD. We tried a "Reese's" donut -- fluffy peanut butter filling with chocolate topping.:banana::banana:

Months later, we were visiting again and talked about how we were so psyched to get that donut again -- it was that good. Stood in line -- six Reese's left. Next customer. Five left. Next customer. TWO left. We were dying. Customer right in front of us orders a dozen..."And I'll take those last Reese's, too."

We both let out an involuntary wail. Everyone in the store looks at us. We explain our sob story -- and that super-cool customer (who lived in the area and could get them any time) said we could have them. :rotfl:

Pathetic, but true. Never had as good of a donut before or since. Would love to know if they were as good as we thought they were.

(Sorry for the long post; putting off doing work so why not talk about donuts?)

Tasty-O's in Sarasota. People drive for miles to get a good donut!

Last time I was in WNY I finally had a Timmy Ho's. They were good - and so was the coffee. I'd have to rank those at a close #2 to Tasty-O's.

I will tuck this bit of info away for next time we are in that part of the state . :)

Cinammon rolls with peanut butter frosting....... or the double chocolates...
This place reinforces the old adage of finding the small local place for the best food.

When you say jelly, do you mean grape jelly? They never heard of that here. As a kid, a donut was grape filled rolled in powdered sugar. MMMMMM.

Mister Donut was acquired by Dunkin Donuts many years ago. The two companies actually had related ownership (I think they were brothers) when they were both started, so the purchase made some sense.

We had a Mister Donut where I grew up near Dunkirk, NY. I have great memories of sitting at the long counter there for a donut when out shopping with my grandmother. Yum!

But from what I've read, the only ones still in existence are in Japan. Like the Colonel, Mister Donut is a revered cultural icon over there!

Thanks for clearing this up. I was wondering about Mister Donut & what happened to him. RIP Mister Donut!!

I too, have fond memories of Mister Donut's counter in Niagara Falls & going there with my Dad.

Thanks for the intel! I wonder why DD never picked up the Reese's donut, then. Loved that. Sheetz had their version a couple months ago -- first time I'd ever seen it since MD -- and it just wasn't the same. Road trip to Japan!
